Book Lecture Notes on Chern Simons Witten Theory

Download or read book Lecture Notes on Chern Simons Witten Theory written by Sen Hu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is based on lectures on topological quantum field theory given in 1989 at Princeton University by E. Witten, in which he unified several important mathematical works in terms of the Donaldson polynomial, Gromov/Floer homology, and Jones polynomials. Witten explained his three-dimensional construction of Jones polynomials, "an elegant construction of a new polynomial invariant in three-dimensional space" (per the author), via quantization of Chern-Simons gauge theory. Hu (Princeton U.) adds missing details and some new developments in the field. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR.

Book Geometry and Topology of Manifolds

Download or read book Geometry and Topology of Manifolds written by Hans U. Boden and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains expository papers that give an up-to-date account of recent developments and open problems in the geometry and topology of manifolds, along with several research articles that present new results appearing in published form for the first time. The unifying theme is the problem of understanding manifolds in low dimensions, notably in dimensions three and four, and the techniques include algebraic topology, surgery theory, Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten gauge theory, Heegaard Floer homology, contact and symplectic geometry, and Gromov-Witten invariants. The articles collected for this volume were contributed by participants of the Conference "Geometry and Topology of Manifolds" held at McMaster University on May 14-18, 2004 and are representative of the many excellent talks delivered at the conference.

From the reviews "The book has intrinsic value for a student as well as for an experienced geometer. Additionally, it is really a compendium in Riemannian Geometry." --MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS

Book Chern Simons Gauge Theory 20 Years After

Download or read book Chern Simons Gauge Theory 20 Years After written by Jørgen E. Andersen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1989, Edward Witten discovered a deep relationship between quantum field theory and knot theory, and this beautiful discovery created a new field of research called Chern-Simons theory. This field has the remarkable feature of intertwining a large number of diverse branches of research in mathematics and physics, among them low-dimensional topology, differential geometry, quantum algebra, functional and stochastic analysis, quantum gravity, and string theory. The 20-year anniversary of Witten's discovery provided an opportunity to bring together researchers working in Chern-Simons theory for a meeting, and the resulting conference, which took place during the summer of 2009 at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, included many of the leading experts in the field. This volume documents the activities of the conference and presents several original research articles, including another monumental paper by Witten that is sure to stimulate further activity in this and related fields. This collection will provide an excellent overview of the current research directions and recent progress in Chern-Simons gauge theory.

Book Mathematical Aspects of Conformal and Topological Field Theories and Quantum Groups

Download or read book Mathematical Aspects of Conformal and Topological Field Theories and Quantum Groups written by Paul J. Sally (Jr.) and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains papers presented by speakers at the AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Conformal Field Theory, Topological Field Theory and Quantum Groups, held at Mount Holyoke College in June 1992. One group of papers deals with one aspect of conformal field theory, namely, vertex operator algebras or superalgebras and their representations. Another group deals with various aspects of quantum groups. Other topics covered include the theory of knots in three-manifolds, symplectic geometry, and tensor products. This book provides an excellent view of some of the latest developments in this growing field of research.

Download or read book The Poincare Conjecture written by James Carlson and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conference to celebrate the resolution of the Poincare conjecture, which is one of the Clay Mathematics Institute's seven Millennium Prize Problems, was held at the Institut Henri Poincare in Paris. Several leading mathematicians gave lectures providing an overview of the conjecture--its history, its influence on the development of mathematics, and, finally, its proof. This volume contains papers based on the lectures at that conference. Taken together, they form an extraordinary record of the work that went into the solution of one of the great problems of mathematics.

Book Symplectic Manifolds with no Kaehler structure

Download or read book Symplectic Manifolds with no Kaehler structure written by Alesky Tralle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a research monograph covering the majority of known results on the problem of constructing compact symplectic manifolds with no Kaehler structure with an emphasis on the use of rational homotopy theory. In recent years, some new and stimulating conjectures and problems have been formulated due to an influx of homotopical ideas. Examples include the Lupton-Oprea conjecture, the Benson-Gordon conjecture, both of which are in the spirit of some older and still unsolved problems (e.g. Thurston's conjecture and Sullivan's problem). Our explicit aim is to clarify the interrelations between certain aspects of symplectic geometry and homotopy theory in the framework of the problems mentioned above. We expect that the reader is aware of the basics of differential geometry and algebraic topology at graduate level.

Book Lectures on Seiberg Witten Invariants

Download or read book Lectures on Seiberg Witten Invariants written by John D. Moore and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fall of 1994, Edward Witten proposed a set of equations which give the main results of Donaldson theory in a far simpler way than had been thought possible. The purpose of these notes is to provide an elementary introduction to the equations that Witten proposed. They are directed towards graduate students who have already taken a basic course in differential geometry and topology.
