Book Methods and Instrumentations Results and Recent Developments

Download or read book Methods and Instrumentations Results and Recent Developments written by Arnold S. Marfunin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All existing introductory reviews of mineralogy are written accord ing to the same algorithm, sometimes called the "Dana System of Mineralogy". Even modern advanced handbooks, which are cer tainly necessary, include basic data on minerals and are essentially descriptive. When basic information on the chemistry, structure, optical and physical properties, distinguished features and para genesis of 200-400 minerals is presented, then there is practically no further space available to include new ideas and concepts based on recent mineral studies. A possible solution to this dilemma would be to present a book beginning where introductory textbooks end for those already famil iar with the elementary concepts. Such a volume would be tailored to specialists in all fields of science and industry, interested in the most recent results in mineralogy. This approach may be called Advanced Mineralogy. Here, an attempt has been made to survey the current possibilities and aims in mineral mater investigations, including the main characteristics of all the methods, the most important problems and topics of mineralogy, and related studies. The individual volumes are composed of short, condensed chap ters. Each chapter presents in a complete, albeit condensed, form specific problems, methods, theories, and directions of investigations, and estimates their importance and strategic position in science and industry.

Book Geopolitics of the World System

Download or read book Geopolitics of the World System written by Saul Bernard Cohen and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2003 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cohen argues that the emergence of the United States as the world's sole superpower and the process of globalization have failed to remove the importance of geography as a political and strategic factor of great import. After laying out the structural basis for his theory of geopolitical theory, he launches into an examination of how geopolitical realities have developed since World War II, a period that witnessed greater change than the preceding two and a half centuries. He then turns his attention to the meat of the book, separate examinations of the each of the major world regions, including examinations of the important countries and their individual geopolitical realities.

Book Relativistic and Electron Correlation Effects in Molecules and Solids

Download or read book Relativistic and Electron Correlation Effects in Molecules and Solids written by G.L. Malli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on "R@lativistic and Electron Correlation Effects in Molecules and Solids", co-sponsored by Simon Fraser University (SFU) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) was held Aug 10- 21, 1992 at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada. A total of 90 lecturers and students with backgrounds in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and various interdisciplinary subjects attended the ASI. In my proposal submitted to NATO for financial support for this ASI, I pointed out that a NATO ASI on the effects of relativity in many-electron systems was held ten years ago, [See G.L. Malli, (ed) Relativistic Effects in Atoms, Molecules and Solids, Plenum Press, Vol B87, New York, 1983]. Moreover, at a NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on advanced methods for molecular electronic structure "an assessment of state-of the-art of Electron Correlation ... " was carried out [see C.E. Dykstra, (ed), Advanced Theories and Computational Approaches to the Electronic Structure of Molecules, D. Reidel Publishin~ Company, Vol C133, Dordrecht, The Netherlands 1984]. However, during the last five years, it has become clear that the relativistic and electron correlation effects must be included in the theoretical treatment of many-electron molecules and solids of heavy elements (with Z > 70). Molecules and clusters containing heavy elements are of crucial importance in a number of areas of Chemistry and Physics such as nuclear fuels, catalysis, surface science, etc.

Book Molecular Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Theodore Buyana
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1997-07-15
  • ISBN : 9813103434
  • Pages : 780 pages

Download or read book Molecular Physics written by Theodore Buyana and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-07-15 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines in one concise volume the diverse work of several similar books in the market. Each chapter is self-contained and designed to serve the needs of graduates and undergraduates in physics, biochemistry and chemistry. Numerous illustrations accompany the material and more than 60 problems in molecular physics are worked out. Tedious mathematics that obscures the essence of physics is avoided. Though mainly theoretical, many important experimental aspects are included and discussed. It aims at teaching, and not commenting on scientific knowledge. An essential compendium, it can be used both as a textbook and a reference. The main features covered include: Quantum-mechanical treatment of molecular physics; theoretical treatment of molecular spectra and experimental techniques in spectroscopy; interatomic interactions, potentials, molecular stability, energy levels, bonds, rotational and vibrational states, anharmonicity, polarization; theoretical consideration of real molecules. Resonance methods (NMR, NQR, EPR and ENDOR. Theory, experimental apparatus, techniques, numerical results, applications and utility thereof).
