Book Symmetrization And Applications

Download or read book Symmetrization And Applications written by S Kesavan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-04-25 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of isoperimetric inequalities involves a fascinating interplay of analysis, geometry and the theory of partial differential equations. Several conjectures have been made and while many have been resolved, a large number still remain open. One of the principal tools in the study of isoperimetric problems, especially when spherical symmetry is involved, is Schwarz symmetrization, which is also known as the spherically symmetric and decreasing rearrangement of functions. The aim of this book is to give an introduction to the theory of Schwarz symmetrization and study some of its applications. The book gives an modern and up-to-date treatment of the subject and includes several new results proved recently. Effort has been made to keep the exposition as simple and self-contained as possible. A knowledge of the existence theory of weak solutions of elliptic partial differential equations in Sobolev spaces is, however, assumed. Apart from this and a general mathematical maturity at the graduate level, there are no other prerequisites.

Book Condenser Capacities and Symmetrization in Geometric Function Theory

Download or read book Condenser Capacities and Symmetrization in Geometric Function Theory written by Vladimir N. Dubinin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first systematic presentation of the capacitory approach and symmetrization in the context of complex analysis. The content of the book is original – the main part has not been covered by existing textbooks and monographs. After an introduction to the theory of condenser capacities in the plane, the monotonicity of the capacity under various special transformations (polarization, Gonchar transformation, averaging transformations and others) is established, followed by various types of symmetrization which are one of the main objects of the book. By using symmetrization principles, some metric properties of compact sets are obtained and some extremal decomposition problems are solved. Moreover, the classical and present facts for univalent and multivalent meromorphic functions are proven. This book will be a valuable source for current and future researchers in various branches of complex analysis and potential theory.

Book Symmetrizing Syntax

Download or read book Symmetrizing Syntax written by Hiroki Narita and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetrizing Syntax seeks to establish a minimal and natural characterization of the structure of human language (syntax), simplifying many facets of it that have been redundantly or asymmetrically formulated. Virtually all past theories of natural language syntax, from the traditional X-bar theory to the contemporary system of Merge and labeling, stipulate that every phrase structure is "asymmetrically" organized, so that one of its elements is always marked as primary/dominant over the others, or each and every phrase is labeled by a designated lexical element. The two authors call this traditional stipulation into question and hypothesize, instead, that linguistic derivations are essentially driven by the need to reduce asymmetry and generate symmetric structures. Various linguistic notions such as Merge, cyclic derivation by phase, feature-checking, morphological agreement, labeling, movement, and criterial freezing, as well as parametric differences among languages like English and Japanese, and so on, are all shown to follow from a particular notion of structural symmetry. These results constitute novel support for the contemporary thesis that human language is essentially an instance of a physical/biological object, and its design is governed by the laws of nature, at the core of which lies the fundamental principle of symmetry. Providing insights into new technical concepts in syntax, the volume is written for academics in linguistics but will also be accessible to linguistics students seeking an introduction to syntax.

Book Continuum Damage Mechanics and Numerical Applications

Download or read book Continuum Damage Mechanics and Numerical Applications written by Wohua Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 937 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Continuum Damage Mechanics and Numerical Applications" presents a systematic development of the theory of Continuum Damage Mechanics and its numerical engineering applications using a unified form of the mathematical formulations in anisotropic and isotropic damage models. The theoretical framework is based on the thermodynamic theory of energy and material dissipation and is described by a set of fundamental formulations of constitutive equations of damaged materials, development equations of the damaged state, and evolution equations of micro-structures. According to concepts of damage-dissipation of the material state and effective evolution of material properties, all these advanced equations, which take nonsymmetrized effects of damage aspects into account, are developed and modified from the traditional general failure models so they are more easily applied and verified in a wide range of engineering practices by experimental testing. Dr. Wohua Zhang is a Professor at Engineering Mechanics Research Center in Zhejiang University of China. Dr. Yuanqiang Cai is a Professor at Department of Civil Engineering in Zhejiang University of China.

Book Dynamical Collision Theory and Its Applications

Download or read book Dynamical Collision Theory and Its Applications written by Sadhan Adhikari and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamical Collision Theory and Its Applications reviews some of the powerful methods that have evolved for calculating the predictions of dynamical collision theory. Topics range from scattering theory to potential scattering, three- and four-particle scattering, multiparticle scattering, many-particle Lippmann-Schwinger equations, and the connected-kernel approach. This book is comprised of nine chapters; the first of which introduces the reader to the quantum theory of scattering. This topic is followed by a discussion on two-particle potential scattering and various methods for calculating off-shell two-body amplitudes as well as approximating them by finite-rank forms. The next chapters focus on the interpretation and applicability of the multichannel, multiparticle Lippmann-Schwinger equations, along with the known N-particle connected-kernel integral equations and their physical predictions. Descriptions of contemporary field-theoretical and relativistic approaches, such as the Dirac phenomenology for intermediate energy nucleon-nucleus scattering, are included. The singularity structure of multiparticle amplitudes and the associated dispersion-relation techniques are also considered. This book concludes by describing the relationship between the conventional (optical potentials, multiple-scattering theories, and the coupled-reaction channel and resonating-group methods) and the few-body approaches. This text is primarily intended for chemists, physicists, and graduate students interested in general scattering theory; intermediate and low-energy hadron and nuclear physics; atomic and molecular physics; statistical mechanics; and physical and quantum chemistry. There are a number of topics in this book that will be interesting to both mathematicians and particle physicists, as well as advanced graduate students in courses that involve collision theory.
