Book Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning and Uncertainty

Download or read book Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning and Uncertainty written by Michael Clarke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-10-20 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years it has become apparent that an important part of the theory of artificial intelligence is concerned with reasoning on the basis of uncertain, incomplete, or inconsistent information. A variety of formalisms have been developed, including nonmonotonic logic, fuzzy sets, possibility theory, belief functions, and dynamic models of reasoning such as belief revision and Bayesian networks. Several European research projects have been formed in the area and the first European conference was held in 1991. This volume contains the papers accepted for presentation at ECSQARU-93, the European Conference on Symbolicand Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning and Uncertainty, held at the University of Granada, Spain, November 8-10, 1993.

Book Logic Language and Reasoning

Download or read book Logic Language and Reasoning written by Hans Jürgen Ohlbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th This volume is dedicated to Dov Gabbay who celebrated his 50 birthday in October 1995. Dov is one of the most outstanding and most productive researchers we have ever met. He has exerted a profound influence in major fields of logic, linguistics and computer science. His contributions in the areas of logic, language and reasoning are so numerous that a comprehensive survey would already fill half of this book. Instead of summarizing his work we decided to let him speak for himself. Sitting in a car on the way to Amsterdam airport he gave an interview to Jelle Gerbrandy and Anne-Marie Mineur. This recorded conversation with him, which is included gives a deep insight into his motivations and into his view of the world, the Almighty and, of course, the role of logic. In addition, this volume contains a partially annotated bibliography of his main papers and books. The length of the bibliography and the broadness of the topics covered there speaks for itself.

Book Abductive Reasoning and Learning

Download or read book Abductive Reasoning and Learning written by Dov M. Gabbay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains leading survey papers on the various aspects of Abduction, both logical and numerical approaches. Abduction is central to all areas of applied reasoning, including artificial intelligence, philosophy of science, machine learning, data mining and decision theory, as well as logic itself.

Book Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning with Uncertainty

Download or read book Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning with Uncertainty written by Sébastien Destercke and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th European Conference on Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning with Uncertainty, ECSQARU 2015, held in Compiègne, France, in July 2015. The 49 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 69 submissions and cover topics on decision theory and preferences; argumentation; conditionals; game theory; belief update; classification; inconsistency; graphical models; Bayesian networks; belief functions; logic; and probabilistic graphical models for scalable data analytics. Papers come from researchers interested in advancing the technology and from practitioners using uncertainty techniques in real-world applications. The scope of the ECSQARU conferences encompasses fundamental issues, representation, inference, learning, and decision making in qualitative and numeric uncertainty paradigms.

Book Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning and Uncertainty

Download or read book Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning and Uncertainty written by Christine Froidevaux and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-06-26 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume constitutes the 48 full refereed research papers accepted for presentation at the Third European Conference on Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning and Uncertainty, ECSQARU '95, held in Fribourg, Switzerland in July 1995 under the sponsorship of the DRUMS consortium (ESPRIT II BRA 6156). In recent years, it has become apparent that an important part of the theory of AI is concerned with reasoning on the basis of uncertain, vague, incomplete, or inconsistent information. A variety of nonclassical formalisms, both symbolic and numerical, have been developed and are addressed in this volume; among them are nonmonotonic and modal logics, fuzzy sets, possibility theory, believe functions, evidence theory, dynamic models, and Bayesian networks.

Book Fuzzy Information Engineering

Download or read book Fuzzy Information Engineering written by Didier Dubois and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy logic allows computer programmers to interpret ambiguous commands that ordinary, rigid programs are unable to decipher. For instance, computers can work with words like "tall" and "expensive" rather than 6'5" or $669.95. This book covers the use of fuzzy logic in the information science and information engineering fields.
