Book Sydney the Brave Shark

Download or read book Sydney the Brave Shark written by Corinne Hammerschlag and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-10-05 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Sydney, a Great White Shark who is born with an abnormality. One tooth grows outside his mouth instead of inside. He is very unhappy because he is teased at school. One day, a new shark comes to the class. Her name is Molly and she is a Mako shark. She and Sydney become good friends. One day, they were swimming together and got stuck in reeds. It was becoming dark and they were very scared. Suddenly Sydney had an idea. He used his disability to rescue them and becomes a hero. It is a wonderful book and deals with the issues of disability as well as bullying. A very prominent theme running through the book is IT'S NOT WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE THAT COUNTS BUT WHAT YOU DO! I believe this theme will resonate with parents and teachers alike.

Book The Mammoth Book of Shark Attacks

Download or read book The Mammoth Book of Shark Attacks written by Alex MacCormick and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biggest-ever selection of first-hand accounts and news reports of shark attacks, both recent and historical, shows how sharks are masters of the ocean and how we enter their domain at our own risk. Think you're safe in the Med? Read about the Great Whites that thrive near holiday beaches. Think you're safe in large groups? Read about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in 1945 when hundreds of sailors floated for days in shark-infested waters, being picked off one-by-one. Think you're safe at home? Read about the 69-year-old man, taking his regular evening swim, jumping off his backyard dock straight into the mouth of a bull shark. Many more extraordinary and gruesome accounts, including the shark-boat skipper who slit open the belly of a 360-kg tiger shark only to have a human head, pelvis, and arm come tumbling out, provide horrific and moving tales of shark encounters. The courage of survivors and those who have risked their lives to save shark attack victims is truly inspirational. Where can you find sharks? Features on different shark species with illustrations, fact boxes and maps show where they lurk around the world. Also included are a selection of full-colour photographs and special sections on the life cycle of a shark, how to avoid a shark attack and how to survive one.

Book Killers in the Water The New Super Sharks Terrorising The World s Oceans

Download or read book Killers in the Water The New Super Sharks Terrorising The World s Oceans written by Sue Blackhall and published by Metro Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07-27 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sharks are intriguing and beautiful creatures - but they can also be deadly. As we humans have explored the world's oceans and exploited them for tourism and recreation, we have found ourselves coming into contact with more and more sharks. And the outcome can be fatal. From the Seychelles to South Africa, and Australia to North America, tourists, divers and surfers have seemingly found themselves under increased threat from unprovoked shark attacks. Fatal attacks have occurred in locations that were previously thought to be safe, and in late 2010 the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh was rocked by an incredible five shark attacks in a matter of weeks. But are sharks really ruthless, vicious killers, or are they simply reacting to humans invading their habitat? Has the number of shark attacks increased in recent years? What can be done to prevent shark attacks? All these questions and more are answered in this fascinating book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More horrifying than Jaws-- because it's true! Since 1990 there have been 283 shark attacks worldwide--40 of which were fatal... In the past 15 years, reports of shark attacks have substantially increased... Over half the attacks occur in water no deeper than five feet... Believe it or not, shark attacks are still a very real threat to humans. These unspeakably bloody encounters happen in shallow water, in "safe" areas, to people just like you-- people who thought it could never happen to them. HONG KONG, 1995: A forty-five-year-old woman swimming in shallow water with fifty other people has one leg and one arm ripped off by the shark--she dies before reaching the hospital. CALIFORNIA, 1993: A man snorkeling with friends is swallowed headfirst halfway down his body--luckily, the shark spits him back out with only bite wounds. AUSTRALIA, 1993: A professional diver and mother of five is literally torn in half in front of her horrified family by a fifteen-foot great white shark. HAWAII, 1991: Two vacationing friends out for a swim suddenly see a shark "the size of a car" swim by. After one of the women begins thrashing in panic, the shark attacks and kills her--her body is later recovered with several limbs missing. Read on for more blood-chilling accounts of people who fell prey to...SHARK ATTACKS.

Book excerpt: This book examines the policymaking process following highly emotional events. It focuses on the politics of shark “attacks” by looking at policy responses to tragic shark bites in Florida, Australia, and South Africa. The book reviews these cases by identifying the flaws in the human-shark relationship, including the way sharks are portrayed as the enemy, the way shark bites are seen as intentional, and how policy responses appear to be based on public safety. Flaws identifies politicians as the true sharks of this story for their manipulation of tragic circumstances to protect their own interests. It argues that shark bites are ungovernable accidents of nature, and that we are “in the way, not on the menu.”

Or injuries so shocking that the mind recoils from the thought. This book chronicles shark attacks both on Australia's fatal shores and overseas. It also records miraculous escapes - some so bizarre they defy belief, and some that display extraordinary courage in the face of extreme peril. Robert Reid interviews famous shark hunters and other adventurers who speak for the first time about their dangerous encounters with these fearsome predators. Reid investigates the phenomenon of the so-called 'rogue' sharks, those that stalk and kill humans in numbers, in the same place, at the same time. These are gripping stories that will both fascinate and frighten, stories that will take the reader into the realm of these strange but terrible creatures. They have ruled the oceans with ruthless efficiency for more than 400 million years. They are the silent killers of the deep.

That Halloween morning in Kauai, Hawaii Bethany responded to the shark's stealth with a calmness beyond belief. Pushing pain and panic aside, she immediately thought: 'Get to the beach...' Rushed to the hospital, where her father, Ted Hamilton, was about to undergo knee surgery, Bethany found herself taking his spot in the operating theatre. When the first thing Bethany wanted to know after surgery was 'When can I surf again?' it became clear that her unfaltering spirit and determination were part of a greater story - a tale of courage and faith that this modest and soft-spoken girl would come to share with the world.
