Book Howard Aiken

Download or read book Howard Aiken written by I. Bernard Cohen and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biography of Howard Aiken, a major figure of the early digital era, by a major historian of science who was also a colleague of Aiken's at Harvard. Howard Hathaway Aiken (1900-1973) was a major figure of the early digital era. He is best known for his first machine, the IBM Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator or Harvard Mark I, conceived in 1937 and put into operation in 1944. But he also made significant contributions to the development of applications for the new machines and to the creation of a university curriculum for computer science. This biography of Aiken, by a major historian of science who was also a colleague of Aiken's at Harvard, offers a clear and often entertaining introduction to Aiken and his times. Aiken's Mark I was the most intensely used of the early large-scale, general-purpose automatic digital computers, and it had a significant impact on the machines that followed. Aiken also proselytized for the computer among scientists, scholars, and businesspeople and explored novel applications in data processing, automatic billing, and production control. But his most lasting contribution may have been the students who received degrees under him and then took prominent positions in academia and industry. I. Bernard Cohen argues convincingly for Aiken's significance as a shaper of the computer world in which we now live.

This book was released on 1998-08-14 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Field-Programmable Logics and Applications, FPL '98, held in Tallinn, Estonia, in August/September 1998. The 39 revised full papers presented were carefully selected for inclusion in the book from a total of 86 submissions. Also included are 30 refereed high-quality posters. The papers are organized in topical sections on design methods, general aspects, prototyping and simulation, development methods, accelerators, system architectures, hardware/software codesign, system development, algorithms on FPGAs, and applications.

Book Graph Theory and Its Engineering Applications

Download or read book Graph Theory and Its Engineering Applications written by W K Chen and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1997-02-03 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graphs are extremely useful in modeling systems in physical sciences and engineering problems, because of their intuitive diagrammatic nature. This text gives a reasonably deep account of material closely related to engineering applications. Topics like directed-graph solutions of linear equations, topological analysis of linear systems, state equations, rectangle dissection and layouts, and network flows are included. A major theme of the book is electrical network theory. This book is basically intended as a reference text for researchers, and requires a certain level of mathematical maturity. However the text may equally well be used for graduate level courses on network topology and linear systems and circuits. Some of the later chapters are suitable as topics for advanced seminars. A special feature of the book is that references to other published literature are included for almost all the results presented, making the book especially handy for those wishing to continue with a study of special topics.

Book On Board Switching and Routing Advanced Technology Study

Download or read book On Board Switching and Routing Advanced Technology Study written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future satellite communications is expected to be fully integrated into National and Global Information Infrastructures (NII/GII). These infrastructures will carry multi gigabit-per-second data rates, with integral switching and routing of constituent data elements. The satellite portion of these infrastructures must, therefore, be more than pipes through the sky. The satellite portion will also be required to perform very high speed routing and switching of these data elements to enable efficient broad area coverage to many home and corporate users. The technology to achieve the on-board switching and routing must be selected and developed specifically for satellite application within the next few years. This report presents evaluation of potential technologies for on-board switching and routing applications. Yegenoglu, F. and Inukai, T. and Kaplan, T. and Redman, W. and Mitchell, C. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With asynchronous circuit design becoming a powerful tool in the development of new digital systems, circuit designers are expected to have asynchronous design skills and be able to leverage them to reduce power consumption and increase system speed. This book walks readers through all of the different methodologies of asynchronous circuit design, emphasizing practical techniques and real-world applications instead of theoretical simulation. The only guide of its kind, it also features an ftp site complete with support materials. Market: Electrical Engineers, Computer Scientists, Device Designers, and Developers in industry.

Book Applications and Theory of Petri Nets

Download or read book Applications and Theory of Petri Nets written by A. Pagnoni and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a selection of papers presented at the 3rd European Workshop on Appl ications and Theory of Petri Nets that took place in Villa Monastero, Varenna (Italy) in the period September 27 - September 30, 1982. The I ist of topics included: nets and related models, mathematical analysis of nets, transformations and morphisms of nets, formal languages and nets, parallel program verification and nets, the pro blem of time in nets, programming languages based on nets, applications to distributed systems, applications to realtime systems, software ~~gineering, hardware design and its implementation, recoverability problems, nets and formal semantics; net tools. The diversity of topics on this list witnesses the fact that the researchers from very different areas presented their contributions and discussed various research problems during the workshop. This interaction of scientists looking at the area of Petri nets from very different points of view makes this series of workshops interesting and worthwi le. The volume documents the progress of the research concerning Petri nets during a one year time from the 2nd European Workshop held in Bad Honnef in 1981. We think that this was a substantial progress indeed. This observation is even more pleasant if one real izes that during the workshop in Varenna we have celebrated 20 years of "existence" of Petri nets (the seminal work by prof. C.A. Petri appeared precisely 20 years ago). We are very proud to present an invited address by prof. C.A. Petri in this volume.
