Book A Divine Cordial Romans 8

Download or read book A Divine Cordial Romans 8 written by Thomas Watson and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers,. This book was released on 2007 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This delectable book (the original title was A Divine Cordial) is an exposition of that verse, not neglecting the last phrase (as so many are apt to do). This is no pop treatment to pat the back of all professing Christians. It is a serious consideration of all things that go into making everything work together for good. This starts with the attributes of God, His promises and mercies, the graces of the Spirit, the intercession of Christ, etc. A key to understanding why and how things work together for good to ''the ones loving God'' lies in recognizing that all things begin with God's eternal decrees. Literally everything that happens was first decreed. For it is written, ''in whom we also have been chosen to an inheritance, being predestinated according to [the] purpose of the [One] working all things according to the counsel of His own will.'' (Ephesians 1:11) Watson lays out the evils of affliction, temptation, desertion, and sin, and how and why God makes these things work out to the good of the saints. Watson also excels in fixing just what a loving God means, and what it means to love God. There are many highly instructive pages on the subject of Christian love for God and man. The Grand Reason All Things Work for Good: It is the near and dear interest that God has in His people. He has covenanted with His people, They shall be My people, and I will be their God'' (Jer. 32:38) This leads to a distinction about calling: (1) our condition before calling; (2) the means of our effectual calling; (3) the method God uses; (4) the properties of this calling; and, (5) the purpose intended by our effectual calling. He then finishes with a discussion of God's purposes. It behooves everyone professing to be a Christian to study the purposes of God. This book is a pure delight for any true lover of God! How many have studied this question, Why do all things work to good for us? Thomas Watson (1616-1688) was one of the more famous Puritan preachers, also a victim of the 1662 ejection of evangelical preachers from their pulpits. He authored a great many books, all of which are still revered, and many are classics still being printed.

Book excerpt: There is nothing as sweet as knowing that the Heavenly Father considers you one of His own, bought by the blood of Jesus Christ. However, some modern-day Christians may have allowed a thriving existence with God to be replaced by a life dictated by religious rules. As a disciple of Jesus, we are supposed to embody what is written in Luke 10:27, being lovers of God and others, not of regulations. Authors Jane Cordell and Tiffany Waters help lead Christians to this biblical truth in their new Bible study, No Sweeter Roots, which focuses on becoming intimate with God again through actively obeying and seeking Him. The studies re-educate readers on truths about God's love and what He created each person to be and do. As we are all rooted in Jesus upon surrender to Him, we then become His disciples, doing God's will in our lives in true worship to the Father. Jane Cordell is a respected Bible teacher with 20 years of experience leading in-depth Bible studies for women. Though she has taught the Bible to everyone from preschoolers to college students to adults, her heart is in mentoring women in their walk with Christ. An accomplished Precept leader, she has led dozens of Precept Upon Precept courses and has written her own material for her church s women s retreats. Her blog, Sitting in the Sweet Spot of the Savior, served as the foundation for the lessons in this book. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia and currently lives in Natchitoches, LA, with her husband of 36 years. Tiffany Waters is a close friend who has co-taught Bible studies with Jane for the last six years. She is a graduate of Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Married, the mother of four, and a gifted vocalist, she co-wrote the Sweet Savior blog and has collaborated on several Bible studies and women s retreats over the last few years. Her infectious enthusiasm is a perfect complement to Jane s academic rigor, and together they have encouraged many women to dig deep into the Word and apply it in their daily lives. She is currently a homemaker heavily invested in her children s lives, and in the lives of those hungry for an encounter with God.

Book Good Strategy Bad Strategy

Download or read book Good Strategy Bad Strategy written by Richard Rumelt and published by Currency. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good Strategy/Bad Strategy clarifies the muddled thinking underlying too many strategies and provides a clear way to create and implement a powerful action-oriented strategy for the real world. Developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader. A good strategy is a specific and coherent response to—and approach for—overcoming the obstacles to progress. A good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect. Yet, Rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate Mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy.” In Good Strategy/Bad Strategy, he debunks these elements of “bad strategy” and awakens an understanding of the power of a “good strategy.” He introduces nine sources of power—ranging from using leverage to effectively focusing on growth—that are eye-opening yet pragmatic tools that can easily be put to work on Monday morning, and uses fascinating examples from business, nonprofit, and military affairs to bring its original and pragmatic ideas to life. The detailed examples range from Apple to General Motors, from the two Iraq wars to Afghanistan, from a small local market to Wal-Mart, from Nvidia to Silicon Graphics, from the Getty Trust to the Los Angeles Unified School District, from Cisco Systems to Paccar, and from Global Crossing to the 2007–08 financial crisis. Reflecting an astonishing grasp and integration of economics, finance, technology, history, and the brilliance and foibles of the human character, Good Strategy/Bad Strategy stems from Rumelt’s decades of digging beyond the superficial to address hard questions with honesty and integrity.

Book The Purpose Driven Church

Download or read book The Purpose Driven Church written by Rick Warren and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue is church health, not church growth—if your church is healthy, growth will occur naturally. So how do we make healthy churches, driven by purpose? In order for any church to thrive, it must be built around the five New Testament purposes given to the church by Jesus Christ. In this classic of Christian church stability, pastor and bestselling author of The Purpose Driven Life Rick Warren unpacks this proven five-part strategy that will enable your church to grow: Warmer through fellowship. Deeper through discipleship. Stronger through worship. Broader through ministry. Larger through evangelism. Every church is driven by something. Tradition, finances, programs, personalities, events, seekers, and even buildings can each be the controlling force in a church. But Warren will show you how to concentrate on building people and let God build the church. In other words, healthy, consistent growth is the result of balancing the five biblical purposes of the church. And The Purpose Driven Church will show you how to do that. “The Purpose Driven Church has brought focus and direction to more pastors and church leaders than you can count. What a gift!”—John Ortberg, bestselling author.
