EDITOR'S PREFACE The purpose of this book is to provide a fairly broad survey of the Swedish legal system. In order to avoid possible disappointment, it would seem important to make clear from the outset what kind of questions the authors propose to answer and what groups of readers they are addressing. The easiest way to do this is to set out what we are not purporting to do. Thus, the book is not intended to serve as a primer for students who possess no knowledge of "the law", i. e. of the concepts, ideas and solutions of at least one legal system. Nor is it the purpose of the authors to give practitioners the kind of precise, techni cal answers to isolated questions that they need when advising their clients on the proper course of action in business, or litigation, con ducted within the framework of the legal system described.

Book excerpt: This book offers a foreign reader an overview and understanding of the most important aspects of the law and legal system in Sweden, from the legal institutions to more specific topics such as contract law, tort law and family law. Download or read book Legal Assistance to Developing Countries written by Sevastik and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1960s an essential ingredient of Sweden's international development aid has been focused on democracy and human rights issues and Sweden has been refining its policy continuously within this area. Today this policy has reached a certain degree of sophistication and therefore a natural focal point is on the development of the rule of law in various recipient countries. When and why was it introduced in Swedish development assistance? What does it actually entail? These and other issues related to assistance within the legal sector are discussed in this anthology written by university professors, researchers and lecturers from various law faculties and institutions in Sweden familiar with the developmental work which is channelled through the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA). It encapsulates both actual conditions and ideas outlining future perspectives.

Book Freedom of the Press Act

Download or read book Freedom of the Press Act written by Swedish Government and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-04-11 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Freedom of the Press Act' is one of the four Fundamental Laws of the Realm (rikets grundlagar) and thus forms part of the Swedish Constitution. The Act regulates matters regarding freedom of press and principle of public access to official records. The Freedom of the Press Act as well as the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression is one of the two "basic media acts" in Sweden. The Freedom of the Press Act is derived from the Freedom of the Press Act of 1766; the legislation is regarded as the world's first law supporting the freedom of the press and freedom of information. In its first version, it brought freedom of the press in Sweden—then under the Holstein-Gottorp monarchy—to a level then only rivaled by the liberal Dutch republic and the United Kingdom of the Bill of Rights of 1689.

Book Outsourcing Legal Aid in the Nordic Welfare States

Download or read book Outsourcing Legal Aid in the Nordic Welfare States written by Olaf Halvorsen Rønning and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This edited collection provides a comprehensive analysis of the differences and similarities between civil legal aid schemes in the Nordic countries whilst outlining recent legal aid transformations in their respective welfare states. Based on in-depth studies of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland, the authors compare these cases with legal aid in Europe and the US to examine whether a single, unique Nordic model exists. Contextualizing Nordic legal aid in relation to welfare ideology and human rights, Hammerslev and Halvorsen Rønning consider whether flaws in the welfare state exist, and how legal aid affects disadvantaged citizens. Concluding that the five countries all have very different legal aid schemes, the authors explore an important general trend: welfare states increasingly outsourcing legal aid to the market and the third sector through both membership organizations and smaller voluntary organizations. A methodical and compassionate text, this book will be of special interest to scholars and students of the criminal justice, the welfare state, and the legal aid system.
