Book SVD based Estimation and Rank Detection for Reduced rank MIMO Channel

Download or read book SVD based Estimation and Rank Detection for Reduced rank MIMO Channel written by Tao Cui and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) system, due to its large channel capacity and high reliability, has been widely studied in numerous existing work. It has a lot of applications in reality, e.g., 3GPP and LTE standards. These advantages owes to the understanding of the MIMO channel, which shows the necessity of the obtainment of channel state information (CSI). In this thesis, channel estimation schemes based on singular value decomposition (SVD) are proposed for MIMO systems, where instead of estimating each entry of the channel matrix, the singular spaces and singular values are estimated, respectively. When the channel rank is fixed and known, the maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator is derived. When the channel rank is unknown, by using the singular values of the observation matrix as the test statistics, three threshold-based rank detection algorithms are proposed. In finding the thresholds, lower bounds on the correct detection probability are derived and the thresholds are chosen to maximize the lower bounds. To evaluate the performance, mean square error (MSE) and achievable beamforming capacity are introduced as the criteria. Compared with entry-based ML estimation, simulations show that the combination of the proposed rank detection and SVD-based channel estimation achieves lower MSE and higher capacity.

Book Comparison Study for Multi user MIMO Channel Estimation Techniques

Download or read book Comparison Study for Multi user MIMO Channel Estimation Techniques written by Mohammad Naser Fawwaz Khasawneh and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Channel estimation problem is a crucial state of the art research topic that has been addressed in the literature for the past decade. The importance of such research area emerged from the fact that telecommunication scholars are searching for a wireless telecommunication system that provides a minimum error performance yet can utilize the used spectrum efficiently. Channel estimation is a common practice in most of the wireless communication systems to give the receiver an indication about the channel conditions and hence will affect his decision in detecting the transmitted information This thesis will Compare Four methods for Channel estimation problems based in semi-blind approach for MU-MIMO systems; the Rank Revealing QR factorization RRQR, Least square method LS, CAPON method and the Eigenvector method. Performance comparison is based on the Minimum mean square error (MMSE). The introduced method in this thesis is the Eigenvector method, and it's presented in comparison to the first three methods. Compared to the RRQR the Eigenvector is based on a searching function similar to the MUSIC function with the addition of the Eigen values of the null space in the search function.

Book Channel Estimation and Data Detection Methods for 1 bit Massive MIMO Systems

Download or read book Channel Estimation and Data Detection Methods for 1 bit Massive MIMO Systems written by David Kin Wai Ho and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a promising technology for next generation communication systems. In massive MIMO, a base station (BS) is equipped with a large antenna with potentially hundreds of antennas elements, allowing many users to be served simultaneously. Unfortunately, the hardware complexity and power consumption will scale with the number of antennas. The use of one-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) provides an attractive solution to solve the above issues, since a one-bit ADC consumes negligible power and complex automatic gain control (AGC) can be removed. However, the signal distortion from the severe quantization poses significant challenges to the system designer. One bit quantization effectively removes all amplitude information, which is not recoverable by an increase in signal strength. This places a bound on channel estimation performance. Since the channel model is highly nonlinear, linear detector is suboptimal compared to more sophisticated nonlinear techniques. To reduce the impairment caused by one-bit quantization, a novel antithetic dithering scheme is developed. Antithetic dither is introduced into the system to generate negative correlated noise. Efficient channel estimation algorithms are developed to exploit the induced negative correlated noise in the system. A statistical framework is developed to validate the noise reduction from negative correlated quantized output. To improve the performance of data detection, feed forward neural network based detectors are developed, performance of these detectors are analyzed, architectural modification and training techniques are employed to partially resolve issues that prevent the networks from reaching ideal maximum likelihood performance. Next, model based approaches are evaluated and the shortcomings of iterative methods that rely on the exact likelihood are identified. Iterative methods based on the exact likelihood is shown to diverge due to the increasingly large gradient at high SNR. The constant gradient induced by the sigmoid approximation is shown to increase the robustness of these methods. A structured deep learning detector based on stochastic variational inference is proposed. Stochastic estimate of the gradient is introduced to reduce complexity of the algorithm. Damping is added to improve the performance of mean field inference. Parallel processing is proposed to reduce inference time. The proposed detector is shown to outperform existing methods that do not employ a second candidate search step.

Book Low Rank Approximations for Estimation of Multivariable Dynamics with Application to Energy Systems

Download or read book Low Rank Approximations for Estimation of Multivariable Dynamics with Application to Energy Systems written by Yangsheng Hu and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: System identification is a powerful tool for estimation of the systematic and causal dynamic relations by learning from measurements of input/output data. It provides an effective alternative when first-principles modeling is intractable. It plays an important role in model-based controller design especially during the stage of software-in-the-loop (SIL) and has been widely exploited in a wide range of real-world applications. This dissertation presents a study of theories and applications on multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system identification for estimation of multivariable dynamics between input/output data. The objective is to finally obtain a simplified dynamic model by emphasizing low-rank information during estimation with the aid of singular value decomposition (SVD). In this dissertation, we study the Covariance Based Realization Algorithm (CoBRA) for estimation of linear time-invariant and time-periodic dynamics and the tensor network (TN) based algorithm for estimation of nonlinear dynamics described by Volterra series. The CoBRA, one branch of subspace methods by using covariance data, is able to focus on the estimation of a low-order deterministic model from noisy data by exploiting the low-rank feature of the data matrix. We propose an optimal implementation of the CoBRA and investigate its efficacy in a closed-loop setting compared with other subspace methods. A MIMO Volterra model is powerful to approximate nonlinear dynamics on the basis of input/output observations. We cope with the curse of dimensionality during model formulation and present TN-based noniterative algorithms for MIMO Volterra system identification. The proposed algorithms show numerical advantages over iterative algorithms. This dissertation also studies two real-world applications in energy systems which involve estimation of multivariable dynamics. First, we investigate the microgrid dynamic modeling with power flow covariance data. We propose a model structure which consists of a MIMO linear part concatenated by a static nonlinear part to account for the power loss in transmission lines. Second, we study the modeling for lithium-ion batteries to accurately predict the output terminal voltage. We develop a TN-based Volterra double-capacitor (VDC) model, which is capable of predicting both static and dynamic nonlinearities simultaneously in a more accurate way than other equivalent circuit models (ECMs).
