This book was released on 2020-11-12 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lecture aims to share new perspectives on sustainable ecotourism destination through an integrated approach. It suggests several pertinent factors that ought to be considered to improve and strengthen the sustainability of ecotourism destinations. An alternative, sustainable ecotourism destination framework is offered by incorporating sustainable and experiential dimensions, the concept of co-creation and the six phases of ecotourism destination development in the sustainable development criteria. In particular, the lecture points out the importance of ecotourism experiential dimensions and destination development phases as important components which have been neglected in sustainable ecotourism destination management. Simply put, the development process or phase at the destination significantly influences the sustainability dimensions and the quality of experiences. The quality of experiences and conditions of the destination will in return have a significant impact on the level of development and growth.

Book Rainforest Tourism Conservation and Management

Download or read book Rainforest Tourism Conservation and Management written by Bruce Prideaux and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-19 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globally rainforests are under threat on numerous fronts, including clearing for agriculture, harvesting for timber and urban expansion. Yet they have a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and providing other ecosystem services. As the term is used in this book, rainforests include both temperate and tropical, although the emphasis is on tropical rainforests. Rainforests are also attractive tourist spaces and where they have been used as a tourism resource have generated significant income for local communities. However not all use of rainforests as a tourism resource has been sustainable. This book argues that sustainability must be the foundation on which tourism use of this complex but ultimately fragile ecosystem must be built upon. It provides a multi-disciplinary perspective, incorporating rainforest science, management and tourism issues. The book is organized into four sections commencing with Rainforest Ecology and Management followed by People and Rainforests, Opportunities for Rainforest Tourism Development and finally Threats to Rainforests. Each major rainforest region is covered, including the Amazon, Central America, Africa, Australia and south-east Asia, in the context of a specific issue. For example rainforests in Papua New Guinea are examined in the context of community-based ecotourism development, while the rainforests in Borneo are discussed in an examination of wildlife issues. Other issues covered in this manner include governance, empowerment issues for rainforest peoples and climate change.

Book Economic Growth and Development in the Tropics

Download or read book Economic Growth and Development in the Tropics written by Sook Rei Tan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The living standards and scale of development around the world are vastly unequal. One notable observation is that much of the poverty-stricken area is located between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. By contrast, affluent nations are situated in more temperate zones. Such a phenomenon gives weight to the geography hypothesis that seeks to explain the occurrence of global economic inequality, by placing an emphasis on the importance of natural elements such as location and climate in determining the economic conditions of a nation. This book concentrates exclusively and in depth on the key economic phenomena and factors which shape tropical economies today. It examines contemporary economic problems confronting the tropical countries and provides policy recommendations that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals set in the 2030 Agenda. It contains research works and case studies of tropical economies that are related to the area of development and environment economics. The book’s themes range from economic growth, poverty reduction, income inequality, economic globalization, international trade, capital flow, financial development, and institutional development to environmental sustainability within the Tropics. Recognizing the dynamism and diversity of the tropics, the book encompasses empirical and policy analyses that address the key economic issues and challenges in the region so as to provide an important platform from which new policymaking initiatives can flourish. This book will draw readership primarily from the fields of economics and public policy, particularly under the subject areas of development and environment economics, as well as discussions in the sustainability policy space.

Book Rural Tourism In Malaysia Penerbit USM

Download or read book Rural Tourism In Malaysia Penerbit USM written by Mastura Jaafar and published by Penerbit USM. This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rural tourism provides opportunities for travellers to experience rural attractions and getting familiar with the culture and heritage. It is known to stimulate rural economy through job creation, farm support, nature conservation, rural supplies and services, landscape and nature conservation, rural arts and crafts, and enrichment of local heritage. The development will profit the local community through tourism products ranging from ecotourism to cultural tourism. With rich and melting pot of multicultural and biodiversity, Malaysia has great potential in rural tourism. Both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia have the best ecotourism destinations in the region. Malaysia is blessed to have the UNESCO branded rural destinations such as Kinabalu Park, Gunung Mulu National Park and Archaeological Heritage of the Lenggong Valley. The rural tourism concept in Malaysia has been integrated with other tourism concepts such as sustainable tourism, indigenous tourism, ethnic tourism, agrotourism, ecotourism, farm tourism, cultural tourism and heritage tourism. This integrated concept has been explored in a few case studies involving archaeological, ecotourism, mangrove and highland tourism of rural destinations. These rural destinations offer great potentials in providing the ‘truly Malaysia’ experiences; however, it is yet to be fully capitalized. Managing rural tourism development is very challenging due to its limited resources and infrastructure; thus identification on how the destination is presented, managed and promoted are the major focus of this book. Therefore, these interesting case studies are hoped to enlighten the development of the selected rural tourism destinations in Malaysia.
