Book Sustainability Reporting

Download or read book Sustainability Reporting written by Gwendolen B. White and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability reporting provides nonfinancial and financial indicators of an organization's environmental, economic, and social dimensions of its operations. The globalization of corporations and widely publicized corporate misdeeds (e.g., Nike's child labor problems) has increased public scrutiny of corporate behavior. As pressure grows from a variety of stakeholders (e.g., investors, creditors, customers, and NGOs) for corporate transparency, sustainability reports provide vital information to meet the demand for disclosures about environmental, economic, and social impacts. In addition to addressing stakeholders' demands, this reporting enhances internal decision-making. Managers are better able to assess risks, monitor company resources, establish competitive advantage, create employee loyalty, and engage stakeholders. This book is intended for MBA students, executives, and managers who want to learn about the value of sustainability reporting. In this book, they will discover the internal and external benefits of sustainability reporting, the basics of existing reporting frameworks, and the reaction of the investment community. Detailed examples of sustainability metrics from numerous organizations are provided to illustrate the Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. This book will enable readers to assess how reporting can add value for his or her own organization.

Book Preserving the Legacy

Download or read book Preserving the Legacy written by Allen G. Noble and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 1999 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though only a relatively recent topic of worldwide discussion and interest, the concept of sustainable development traces its origins to the late eighteenth century, when concern for resource conservation and environmental integrity first arose. From this beginning, the concern for sustainable development progressively expanded from being purely local to having a regional and national relevance, and finally to being a global concern of import. Preserving the Legacy examines this expansion, while discussing several general approaches to the understanding and application of the concept of sustainability. Also discussed are such weighty issues as the balancing of development aspirations with environmental management in developing countries, and the means by which residents in an urbanizing region in a developed country can be induced to consider sustainable development as both a goal and a limiting factor in the conversion of agricultural land. Offering both real-world examples of sustainability issues and a forecast for the future of sustainability theory and practice, this fascinating volume will prove invaluable to scholars of the environment, geography, and urban planning.

Book Routledge Handbook of Sport and Legacy

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Sport and Legacy written by Richard Holt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What remains of a great sporting spectacle after the last race is run or the final match is played? How can the vast expense of mounting such events be justified? What if there is nothing left behind or what if the legacy is negative, a costly infrastructure which is unused or a debt-ridden host city? The Routledge Handbook of Sport and Legacy addresses perhaps the most important issue in the hosting of major contemporary sporting events: the problem of ‘legacy’. It offers a rigorous, innovative and comparative insight into this contested concept from interdisciplinary and practical perspectives. Major events must now have a conscious, credible and defined policy for legacy to meet public expectations. The book provides a comprehensive survey of the various kinds of legacy that can be delivered, as well as a close examination of the potential benefits and practical challenges involved in each. From ‘hard’ legacies, such as stadia and infrastructure, to ‘soft’ legacies including skill development, attitude change and capacity building, the book offers both a historical case study and an innovative strategic management approach, and establishes the limits of what can realistically be achieved in terms of economic, social, cultural, physical and sporting development. The Routledge Handbook of Sport and Legacy includes contributions from world leading scholars and practitioners and features detailed case studies of major sports events from around the world, including the FIFA World Cup and ten Olympics Games from London in 1908 to London 2012. It is invaluable reading for students and researchers working in sport studies, events management, human geography, economics or planning, and an essential reference for any professional engaged in delivering legacy through sport.
