Book Residual Currents and Long term Transport

Download or read book Residual Currents and Long term Transport written by Ralph T. Cheng and published by Springer. This book was released on 1990-09-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estuaries, bays and contiguous coastal seas are the world's most valuable, and yet most vulnerable marine ecosystems. Fundamental to the protection and management of these important resources is an understand- ing of the physical processes involved which affect the circulation, mixing, and transport of salt, nutrients and sediment. Residual Currents and Long-Term Transport processes appear to have direct control over freshwater inflows, contaminant loadings, dispersion and transport of sediments and nutrients, and causes of declining living resources. This volume provides a comprehensive and up-to-date summary of the research results on these processes in estuaries and bays. Contributions from ten countries include results based on theoretical formulations, analyses of field data, numerical models and case studies.

Book Holocene Marine Sedimentation in the North Sea Basin

Download or read book Holocene Marine Sedimentation in the North Sea Basin written by S. D. Nio and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-08 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A special publication of the International Association of Sedimentologists This comprehensive scientific book of more than 500 pages features chapters by various authors. Holocene Marine Sedimentation in the North Sea Basin address topics that include: ripple, megaripple and sandwave bedforms in South Wales; shoreline development in St Andrews Bay, Scotland; and the origin of ridges off the Zeeland coast. Highlighted research includes: measurements of suspended sediment concentrations made at stations on a sandy intertidal zone in South Wales, as well as another study of two cores from the southern side of the Norwegian Channel concerning geotechnical properties, texture, sedimentary structures and mineralogical composition.

Book Mechanics Of Coastal Sediment Transport

Download or read book Mechanics Of Coastal Sediment Transport written by Jorgen Fredsoe and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992-11-02 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats the subject of sediment transport in the marine environment, covering transport of noncohesive sediment by waves and currents in- and outside the surf zone. It can be read independently, but a background in hydraulics and basic wave mechanics is required. The primary aim of the book is to describe the physical processes of sediment transport and how to represent them in mathematical models. The book can be divided in two main parts; in the first, the relevant hydrodynamic theory is described. This part contains a review of elementary theory for water waves, chapters on the turbulent wave boundary layer and the turbulent interaction between waves and currents, and finally, surf zone hydrodynamics and wave driven currents. The second part covers sediment transport and morphological development. The part on sediment transport introduces the basic concepts (critical bed shear stress, bed load, suspended load and sheet layer, near-bed concentration, effect of sloping bed); it treats suspended sediment in waves and current and in the surf zone, and current and wave-generated bed forms. Finally, the modelling of cross-shore and long-shore sediment transport is described together with the development of coastal profiles and coastlines.
