Book excerpt: A guide to "when to" and "what to" rather than "how to," this book provides evidence-based surgical reviews to provide credible answers to age-old surgical management questions. The management issues presented are oriented toward interventions and use evidence-based techniques to assess the safety and efficacy of new treatments and rehabilitative or preventative interventions. Each chapter is organized around the key questions essential to delineating the current status of evidence related to the subject reviewed. Publications from the past decade are cited that provide Level I and II evidence using the Oxford scale. Throughout Elective General Surgery, careful assessment of the validity of intervention studies and the strength of the evidence that they provide underlies the choices of cited publications. The information presented in this volume guides the scientific surgeon in providing state-of-the-art care and in optimizing the use of medical resources without losing sight of the need to address the unique needs of individual patients.

Book A Surgeon s Incredible Life Journey

Download or read book A Surgeon s Incredible Life Journey written by Ali H. Morad and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: His journey began in Iran, where he was born and learned the ways of an ancient civilization. As you travel with him, you will learn about his childhood, his parents, his teenage years and his years as a medical student in Iran. Arriving in a new country where people's beliefs and customs were so unlike his own, he discovered that if you are sincere in your beliefs, no matter how different they may be, most people will respect you and your right to your beliefs. Soon, he had two countries and fond memories of his youth in his native land and a deep gratitude for a country that has given him the opportunity to develop wonderful friendships. He has also learned that people are more alike than they are different and that everyone has a belief of some kind and that they want to be cared about and respected. Having the perspective of a native Iranian and a patriotic American, he provides a view of his heritage, as well as the continuing story of his life here in the United States. He was a surgeon who placed a higher value on being a humane, caring person rather than power or money. He has viewed his patients and co-workers as family and treated them with enduring love and respect. Without exception, they have reciprocated. As a physician, he knows laughter and hope is effective medicine, and he has supplied large doses of these in his stories. It is his desire that they give you enjoyment, as well as a more in-depth perception of a different culture and of the man who came from that culture. This is his small contribution to helping us all learn how to live in peace and harmony with one another.

Book International Practice in Cardiothoracic Surgery

Download or read book International Practice in Cardiothoracic Surgery written by Wu Ying-kai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: urgery has been impressive during the past two decades. Surgeons from many countries have accumulated outstanding experiences which are both unique and varied. With the aim of promoting international exchange of scientific and technical accomplishments in cardiothoracic surgery, we began in 1982 to consult with a number of leading cardiothoracic surgeons about compiling a book that would permit them to present their expertise. Through the untiring efforts of all the authors and sectional editors during the past three years, International Practice in Cardiothoracic Surgery is now published, both in an English language edition and in a Chinese language edition. There are one hundred and eleven chapters in eight sections, contributed by over a hundred authors from Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Finland, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States of America. This book is not intended to be a textbook but a compilation of current views and tech nics from cardiothoracic surgeons with unique experiences who have made significant con tributions in certain subjects. No uniformity in format was requested. A certain amount f overlapping and even conflicting ideas are purposely collected to express the interna tional character of the book. We appreciate the warm support, cooperation, and hard work of all the authors, trans lators, sectional editors, and secretarial workers in completing the book.

Surgical Endocrinopathies is of great value to endocrine surgeons, ENT surgeons, endocrinologists, internal medicine and medical historians.
