Book Rare Earth Elements in Groundwater Flow Systems

Download or read book Rare Earth Elements in Groundwater Flow Systems written by Karen H. Johannesson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book of its kind to focus on the geochemistry of the lanthanide series elements in groundwater/aquifer environments. The contributors are leading researchers in the study of low-temperature geochemistry of rare earth elements. Individual chapters address analytical techniques, water-rock interactions, aqueous complexation, and the reactions and processes that influence these heavy metals along groundwater flow paths.

  • Author : John Calder
  • Publisher : Formac Publishing Company
  • Release : 2017-05-01

Download or read book The Joggins Fossil Cliffs written by John Calder and published by Formac Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Joggins Fossil Cliffs offer an unprecedented glimpse into the Earth's history. Bearing fossils of organisms from the lush, tropical forests that existed in the Coal Age — when the continents were assembled into one huge land mass or supercontinent, Pangea — Joggins traces, through layers of sediment, the massive environmental and geologic shifts that have occurred in the planet in the intervening millennia. From fossilized trees that stood thirty metres high to the remains of the earliest known reptile, Hylonomus lyelli, Joggins holds important information about the development of life on Earth — including offering lessons about human impacts on the environment. The Cliffs also share a story of human tenacity and rigorous debate on historical theories of evolution. Sir Charles Lyell and Sir William Dawson, two early geologists who studied Joggins extensively, influenced Charles Darwin with their findings of early fossil remains, particularly hollow tree fauna. The extent of their research at the Joggins site remains unparalleled and significant to this day. The book outlines these stories and more, including Mi'kmaq settlement of the area and the rise of the coal mining industry in the 19th century. It also shares the perspectives of Joggins residents today, and their efforts to preserve this globally significant location and the precious historical information it holds.

Book Pleistocene Stratigraphy and Till Geochemistry of the Miramichi Zone New Brunswick

Download or read book Pleistocene Stratigraphy and Till Geochemistry of the Miramichi Zone New Brunswick written by Michel Lamothe and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral exploration in large parts of Canada is difficult because the bedrock is hidden beneath thick layers of glacially derived sediments. One technique to overcome this, called drift prospecting, identifies high concentrations of economically significant minerals or elements in the glacial sediments and helps to identify their bedrock sources. This project was designed to interpret Quaternary geology to assist in mineral development. This report shows how the geochemistry and lithology of the glacial sediments vary across the region and how the stratigraphy and provenance of those sediments can be interpreted so that geochemical anomalies or mineralized boulders may be traced back to their bedrock sources.
