Book Supply Chain System for Perishable Products issues Models and Strategies

Download or read book Supply Chain System for Perishable Products issues Models and Strategies written by Mutlib Algannas and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation develops a multi-objective framework for optimal replenishment strategy for perishable product to optimize revenue and transportation costs considering shelf life and delivery planning objectives under varying price scenario. Varying prices restrictions of shelf life time for product is introduced into this model to maximize the total profit of supply chain for perishable product. Using the frameworks developed, optimal delivery schedules for perishable products when the product prices vary based on the deteriorated or remaining shelf life of the product are determined. In this dissertation, mixed integer nonlinear (MINLP) mathematical models are developed for multi-objective problems with an objective to maximize revenue while taking into consideration shelf life, and minimization of transportation cost in order to determine the best schedule for delivery. The objective of the next research is in the study of location-allocation of depots for the development of supply chains of perishable products in which the prices depend on the time of delivery. This study developed models with an objective to maximize revenue while determining the need for adding new depots in order to minimize the total cost of the supply chain while meeting the due dates for delivery of the perishable product. MINLP models are developed for maximization of revenue while taking into consideration shelf life, the costs associated with depots, and minimization of transportation cost while meeting due dates for delivery. The last research objective in this dissertation develops a multi-objective optimal replenishment strategy for perishable product to optimize revenue and transportation costs considering shelf life and flexible customer demands. This research extends the initial objective to include demand profiles for multiple days for each retailer with an objective to maximize the total profit of the supply chain for perishable product.

Book An Optimal Delivery Strategy for Multi perishable Products Through Supply Chain Network

Download or read book An Optimal Delivery Strategy for Multi perishable Products Through Supply Chain Network written by Saleh Yahya Alghamdi and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The optimization of delivery plan is a critical issue, especially for multiple perishable products in any profitable organization. This paper develops a model for the efficient implementation of supply chain systems for multiple perishable products. The mathematical model developed maximizes the profit while taking into consideration shelf life and the cost of transportation. The price or value of products is affected by its remaining shelf-life. An optimal delivery plan is developed based on shelf-life, time to transport the perishable products within the network reaching to retailer, while including the minimization of transportation cost in the model. In addition, the optimal delivery plan identifies the right quantity of each type of perishable products to be delivered. In this research, a mathematical model is utilized for solving the multi-objective mathematical problem, which includes revenue maximization, and minimization of transportation models to perform an optimal delivery plan. This paper’s central aim is to maximize the gross profit while identifying the best delivery method for multiple perishable products.

Book Resilient Models and Strategies for Agribusiness Supply Chain Problems Under Supply and Demand Disruptions

Download or read book Resilient Models and Strategies for Agribusiness Supply Chain Problems Under Supply and Demand Disruptions written by Golnar Behzadi and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agribusiness supply chains (ASCs) involve more sources of uncertainty than typical manufacturing supply chains due to characteristics such as long supply lead-times, seasonality, and perishability. Such characteristics make ASCs especially vulnerable to supply and demand disruptions. Thus, a novel approach to risk management (RM) is required. This thesis focuses on RM strategies for managing disruptions ASCs and investigates how different RM strategies may be used to design resilient ASCs. First, we investigate the usefulness of different RM strategies in a real-life case study of Zespri's kiwifruit supply chain under supply- and demand-side disruptions. We use optimisation models in order to find the best sets of RM strategies for managing key supply- and demand-side disruption risks. For supply-side disruptions, we investigate the effectiveness of a number of robust and resilient strategies. We develop a two-stage stochastic programming model, which integrates perishability, to conduct our analysis. The model maximises the expected profit by selecting optimal RM strategies and by making optimal tactical supply chain planning decisions. The results suggest that a mixed combination of robust and resilient strategies are most effective for mitigating supply-side disruptions; and as perishability increases, RM provides a greater relative improvement in the expected profit. Then for demand-side disruptions, we focus on RM strategies to ensure that ASCs are flexible enough to respond to market disruptions quickly and efficiently. Hence, we investigate the effectiveness of multiple RM strategies for building flexibility. A robust optimisation formulation is used to obtain solutions for an objective combining expected profit and risk. The results show that the proposed demand-based RM strategies improve both expected profit and risk measures. Although market-related RM strategies are important for both risk-neutral and risk-averse decision makers, only risk-averse decision makers are interested in transshipment related RM strategy. Next, we simplify these supply and demand disruptions down to a single type, namely port disruptions (either in the supply- or demand-side of the supply chain) in order to study the problem analytically. We also define a variety of resilience measures and investigate the impact of RM on these measures as well as profit. For this problem, the strategy for managing risk is either a risk acceptance (RA) strategy or a backup transportation strategy, which has variable backup capacity during port closure disruptions (i.e., different proportions of backup capacity can be replaced in each disruption period). We derive optimal decisions for supply chain planning and for when to use each strategy and how that strategy should be used. These optimal decisions on RM strategy depend on the fixed and variable costs of the strategy as well as the supply chain's costs/profit and the level of perishability. Hence, this study provides a RM strategy selection framework and suggests that we should not select the strategy based solely on the cost and benefit of the strategy but also based on the specific supply chain context. Overall, this thesis provides investigations on RM strategies to build resilience in ASCs under key supply- and demand-side disruption risks. The thesis particularly focuses on RM strategies that improve the recovery capacity in ASCs with perishable products.

Book Integrated Procurement and Distribution of Perishable Products in a Multi echelon Supply Chain System

Download or read book Integrated Procurement and Distribution of Perishable Products in a Multi echelon Supply Chain System written by Linlin Ma (Industrial engineer) and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents solutions to the grocery industry's perishable inventory problem. To meet their customers' increasing desire for various kinds of perishable products from all over the world, management must deal with widely different suppliers and customers. They must make optimal operational decisions on how to handle procurement and distribution of ordered items. This is crucial to their profit margin especially when dealing with the deterioration of time sensitive goods in transit. This thesis analyzes when products should be ordered, how much of perishable items should be replenished and how goods are allocated to retail stores. A three-level supply chain is studied in this model, which consists of non-identical suppliers, distribution centers and retail stores. Existing models in the related literature often have negligible or identical lead-times of suppliers, and sole source suppliers taking advantage of their exclusivity. However, a grocery company usually has various suppliers (with quantity discounts) and operates multiple warehouses and retail stores. This research will focus on this more comprehensive scenario. Another problem in previous models is FIFO (First-In-First-Out) or LIFO (Last-In-First-Out) inventory policy, since the decreasing price towards the end of the shelf life has a negative impact on revenue. However, in order to achieve the highest profit, optimal decisions are based upon items in each stage of aging. The results will show comparison among the three inventory policies under different decay models.
