She’s greeted by flower-studded hills and snow-capped mountains under a stunningly blue Wyoming sky, but her excitement fades when she spots a man she never wanted to see again. Why is Ben there? And, dang it, why is her heart racing? Ben’s sister Cheryl had set him up on a date with Nina months ago, and even though things didn’t work out, Cheryl still thinks they’re meant for each other. So she surprises her brother with a trip to the ranch for his birthday. Besides, a busy surgeon like Ben needs a break from working at the hospital. Now that his schedule is out of the way, can he make time for Nina? Or will one of the other rugged guests rustle her away? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Will Jesus Return? presents a work of cumulative graceor growth in grace. Author Eugene W. Etheridge, PhD, examines the eventual second coming of Christ. He considers the idea that perhaps Christ will descend in glorious clouds, accompanied by an infinite number of heavenly beings, if not on the anniversary of his birth, then on the anniversary of some other event in his lifeall of which occurred 2,000 years ago and at various dates during this present century. Is this superstition or sensationalism? Neither, according to Etheridge; he writes based upon the words of Peter, Daniel, and Jesus. Peter himself said a day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Etheridge examines his interpretation of when Jesus will appear once again to all believers. He explains how and when this will happen in the future by fully examining critical references to the second coming; he helps guide true believers to an understanding of what they can expect in the coming years.

Book Keyhole Factory

  • Author : William Gillespie
  • Publisher : Catapult

  • ISBN : 1593764464
  • Pages : 417 pages

Download or read book Keyhole Factory written by William Gillespie and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2012-11-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set in an alternate present that is a slightly, if dangerously, skewed version of our own, Keyhole Factory tracks the interwoven destinies of disparate characters up to and beyond the end of the world-as-we-know-it, brought on by a global super-virus. Beginning with a biting satire of an academic poetry conference, the novel moves on to encompass the stories of a poet-astronaut, a microbiologist contemplating an exit strategy from her high-level job designing biological weapons, a sports-car-driving killer who stages the aesthetic murders of utopian commune-dwellers, and a lone pirate radio disc jockey who may be the last person left alive broadcasting her story to nobody. Allowing form and content to shape each other, William Gillespie pries open the confusion in a moment of total crisis through a narrative web-work technique derived from deranged fiction pioneer Harry Stephen Keeler. Part imaginative free-for-all and part deeply felt examination of isolation and survival, the individual lives in Keyhole Factory shine through the chaos in all their beauty and tragedy. With his signature wit and originality, Gillespie spins a glittering fever-dream that questions our assumptions about the way we interpret events and our relation to the planet, without ever losing sight of the underlying experience of what it feels like to be a human being in the world we live in today.

Book Damming Grand Canyon

Download or read book Damming Grand Canyon written by Diane E Boyer and published by . This book was released on 2007-05-07 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1923, America paid close attention, via special radio broadcasts, newspaper headlines, and cover stories in popular magazines, as a government party descended the Colorado to survey Grand Canyon. Fifty years after John Wesley Powell's journey, the canyon still had an aura of mystery and extreme danger. At one point, the party was thought lost in a flood. Something important besides adventure was going on. Led by Claude Birdseye and including colorful characters such as early river-runner Emery Kolb, popular writer Lewis Freeman, and hydraulic engineer Eugene La Rue, the expedition not only made the first accurate survey of the river gorge but sought to decide the canyon's fate. The primary goal was to determine the best places to dam the Grand. With Boulder Dam not yet built, the USGS, especially La Rue, contested with the Bureau of Reclamation over how best to develop the Colorado River. The survey party played a major role in what was known and thought about Grand Canyon. The authors weave a narrative from the party's firsthand accounts and frame it with a thorough history of water politics and development and the Colorado River. The recommended dams were not built, but the survey both provided base data that stood the test of time and helped define Grand Canyon in the popular imagination. Also by Robert Webb: Lee's Ferry

Book Discography of Western Swing and Hot String Bands 1928 1942

Download or read book Discography of Western Swing and Hot String Bands 1928 1942 written by Cary Ginell and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2001-06-30 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of years of research by its authors, this discography strives to identify and trace the recorded development of the musical style now known as western swing from its early years through World War II. The style developed from the Texas string band tradition, growing from a fiddle and guitar duo into full swing band groups, and along the way, it drew from and absorbed a variety of other musical styles, thus making it one of the most diverse genres in American music. Until now, studies have been limited to a few book-length biographies, but through exhaustive research and interviews, Ginell and Coffey have provided the most complete and comprehensive listing of pre-War western swing and hot string band recordings to date. Accessible through a variety of indexes, the information included here comprises four sections. The reader can easily find cross-referenced information on which musicians played with which bands on which songs. Easy-to-follow linear and chronological development of the music is provided as well.
