Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Seven Graded Sunday Schools: A Series of Practical Papers HE living question in the Sunday school of to - day is that which considers its form of organization. As every good public school at the present time is a _graded school, SO every first - class Sunday school must be. There can be no efficient, regular, and satisfactory work done in a Sunday school without a system of grade. On this subject there is extensive inquiry, yet general lack of information. The majority of superintendents and teachers have either no conception or at best an exceedingly vague idea of what constitutes a graded Sunday school. We propose in a few words to set forth what are the essential features of a graded Sunday school. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book The Sunday School Movement written by Stephen Orchard and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's Sunday schools are a pale shadow of what they were in the past. Churches have found other ways of serving children and young people and carrying out adult education. From a historical point of view the Sunday schools have immense significance. As late as the 1950s approximately half the children in Great Britain were associated with Sunday schools. In the nineteenth century Sunday schools were part of general educational provision. With National, British, and Ragged schools, Sunday schools represented the Christian philanthropic impulse to provide a basic education to the public at large and at low cost. The role of the churches in educational provision is again a topic of public interest and the time is right to reflect on some of the lessons of the past. A range of experts have been asked to assess different aspects of the history of the Sunday school movement: Clyde Binfield, Faith Bowers, John H. Y. Briggs, Grayson Ditchfield Hugh McLeod, Stephen Orchard, Jack Priestley, Geoff Robson, and Doreen Rosman. They provide a remarkable survey of many aspects of Sunday schools, from their origin to their reinvention, from teaching the catechism to promoting sport.

Book On Keeping My Mouth Shut in Sunday School

Download or read book On Keeping My Mouth Shut in Sunday School written by James Lutzweiler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is simply a written Sunday school lesson rather than the oral variety. The primary topic is war and the relationship of a Christian to it. While someday war shall be studied no more, that day has not yet arrived. This book chronicles with specific examples how a few Christians like Rev. J. J. Taylor, Alvin York, Vernon Grounds, Franz Jagerstatter, and the author himself have approached the topic. Dietrich Bonhoeffer also makes a guest appearance, as do Tolstoy, Gandhi, and MLK. The book does not advocate a pure pacifism. The author has not solved all the problems associated with that viewpoint and does not know anyone who has. But it does argue for peacemaking, the likes of which is addressed by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount and by St. Paul, who urges us to wrestle with principalities and powers, i.e., ideas, and not to wrestle with flesh and blood. This the author has tried to do within these peacemaking pages and the comparative safety of his laptop and life in bucolic and pastoral Jamestown, North Carolina.
