This summer draw and write journal is an engaging way to encourage kids to keep up with their reading during the vacation time. It is a reading summer workbook that can be used as a summer reading bridge between grades at school, or simply for fun, for the encouragement of a lifelong habit (and passion) of reading! This is how you will use it: Every time you and your child finish reading a story together, fill out a journal entry. Either you or the child can write down the answers (and possibly he/she will feel comfortable writing some brief answers, but not all - and that''s ok. You, the caregiver can simply write down what the child answers verbally). The journal ask information such as: - Book name, author name; - Date when it was read; - Who was the reader; - What the child thought about the story (ie. was it funny, scary, exciting?); - Who are the main characters, and where does the story take place; - What happened in the story; - What was the child''s favorite part and least favorite part of the story; - How much the child liked the book, And then we invite the child to make a drawing about the story. This journal can be used for kids as young as in Pre-K, to older - it will depend on the current development level of the child, and on the books that you select. (We created it with Pre-K to 2nd grade in mind, but it might work for even older kids).
