Book Study of the Phenomena of Hypervelocity Impact

Download or read book Study of the Phenomena of Hypervelocity Impact written by D. R. Christman and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a critical investigation of the meteoroid hazard and of theoretical, empirical, and experimental investigations of hypervelocity impact. Simple and complex models of cratering and perforation are considered, as are the limitations and requirements imposed by practical engineering considerations. Results presented in this report are based on a detailed review of the published works of the many investigators in the field of hypervelocity impact and on a number of independent experimental and theoretical research programs being conducted at GM Defense Research Laboratories. The conclusions are summarized, and specific recommendations are made concerning future experimental and theoretical studies of hypervelocity impact.

Book Hypervelocity Impact Analysis by the Method of Characteristics

Download or read book Hypervelocity Impact Analysis by the Method of Characteristics written by Richard Madden and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer method has been developed for the analysis of the initial hydrodynamic phase of hypervelocity impact. The method is based on solving the inviscid, non heat-conducting, unsteady fluid dynamic equations in cylindrical coordinates by utilizing an approach based on the method of characteristics. The method has been used to generate an operational computer program applicable to the impact of an infinitely long right circular cylinder striking a semi-infinite target of the same material. The projectile is assumed to be traveling parallel to its axis of symmetry, and the target is initially at rest. Results are presented for the pressure and velocity fields at various times following the impact. The pressure fields are compared with the pressure fields calculated from an existing hydrodynamic analysis.

Book High Velocity Impact Phenomena

Download or read book High Velocity Impact Phenomena written by Ray Kinslow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-Velocity Impact Phenomena covers a wide range of pertinent topics dealing with impact phenomena. The book discusses hypervelocity accelerators; stress wave propagation in solids; and the theory of impact. The text also describes the application of the theory of impact on thin targets and shields and correlation with experiment; the numerical evaluation of hypervelocity impact phenomena; and analytical studies of impact-generated shock propagation. The equation of state of solids from shock wave studies; metallurgical observations and energy partitioning; and engineering considerations in hypervelocity impact are also encompassed. Design engineers will find the book invaluable.

Book Hypervelocity Impact Phenomena

Download or read book Hypervelocity Impact Phenomena written by Karl R. Becker and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parameters governing the failure of thin metal plates under the impact of high-speed fragments are being studied; special emphasis is placed on the lightweight structural alloys. The geometrical features of the perforations, together with the spatial, mass, and velocity distributions of the ejecta produced in the perforation process, are considered. A few select target materials e.g., Al and Pb are currently being investigated under impact conditions that involve the same projectile geometry but different impact velocities. (Author).
