However, the cost would be borne by Mikovits, not the pharmaceutical companies. In 2009, their findings were published in the journal Science and prompted swift retaliation that resulted in her termination, arrest and discreditation. With no charges brought against her, she was released and rendered unemployable. Her determination to stand by her findings and refusal to be silenced cost her greatly.
