Book Effective Federal Tax Rates Under Current Law 2001 To 2004

Download or read book Effective Federal Tax Rates Under Current Law 2001 To 2004 written by Ed Harris and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines how effective federal tax rates will change over the coming decade under current law -- that is, if the provisions of tax laws enacted in 2001, 2002, & 2003 phase in, phase out, & ¿sunset¿ as scheduled. Under current law & the assumption that incomes grow at a constant rate, the overall effective federal tax rate drops from 21.5% in 2001 to 19.6% in 2004. It then rises irregularly over the subsequent decade as tax provisions phase in & out. The increases in the effective tax rate between 2005 & 2010 & between 2011 & 2014 occur primarily because rising real incomes move taxpayers into higher tax brackets & the alternative minimum tax affects more taxpayers over time. Charts & tables.

Book Contemporary U S Tax Policy

Download or read book Contemporary U S Tax Policy written by C. Eugene Steuerle and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2008-05-19 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C. Eugene Steuerle, one of the country's most influential economists, offers an insider's look at tax policy based on a quarter century of working with officials of all political stripes. Steuerle outlines the principles of taxation and the early postwar period before proceeding to the tax policy battles that began with the Reagan revolution and continue today. Those expecting a simple story of triumph and defeat may be surprised. Rather than moving toward consensus and progress, tax policy history has been messy, repetitive, and often rancorous. Yet evolution-and even revolution-do occur. The second edition has been updated with a look at tax policy during the George W. Bush presidency.

It has been revised to make it sleeker, more concise, and up-to-date with a clear organisational structure. This edition accomplishes these three important goals: First, it introduces readers to the American approach to public policy making as it has been shaped by our political institutions, changing circumstances, and ideology. Second, it surveys American public policy and policymaking in all the major policy areas from economic policy to health care policy to environmental policy, and does so clearly and even-handedly, with well-selected illustrations, case studies, terms, and study questions. Finally, in addition to providing analytical tools and empirical information, the book challenges readers to come to terms with the widely shared but often competing values that must be balanced and rebalanced in the ongoing policy making process, affecting issues of the highest concern to the American public.
