Download or read book Suicide et tentatives de suicide la R union written by and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Life Span Perspectives of Suicide

Download or read book Life Span Perspectives of Suicide written by A.A. Leenaars and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a great deal of interest has been focused on suicide in the elderly and in the young. However, in line with modem trends in psychology, sociology, psychiatry, anthropology, and other human health fields, interest has now shifted to suicide across the life span, from childhood through adulthood to old age. This book has been conceptualized within this developing tradition. There are various ways in which life's timelines can be conceptualized. Developmental theory, we believe, should be open-ended. This has widened-and will continue to widen-our understanding of many complicated human acts including suicide. Though suicide is in many ways the same across the entire life span, understanding the time-lines in the suicidal process is imperative. To do so, however, is, we believe, challenging. In this volume, we attempt to engage in the process of understanding suicide from a developmental perspective. To do this, we have been fortunate to obtain the cooperation of a highly competent group of contributors. One interesting footnote to our list of authorities is that they represent suicidologists from across the life span-a few who are at the beginning of their careers, a large number in their middle years, and a few who are in the Indian summer of their professional lives.

Book Understanding Suicide

    Book Details:
  • Author : Philippe Courtet
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2016-03-05
  • ISBN : 3319262823
  • Pages : 444 pages

Download or read book Understanding Suicide written by Philippe Courtet and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-05 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book international experts address a range of key current issues relating to suicide. The opening chapters discuss nosology, definitions, clinical determinants, and conceptual models of the suicide process and consider the evidence regarding potential biomarkers of suicide risk based on neuroscientific research. Adopting a neo-Durkheimian perspective, the role of various social factors in the genesis of suicidal behavior is then explored in depth. Practical user-friendly tools that facilitate risk assessment by clinicians are provided, and detailed consideration is given to efficient and innovative strategies for the prevention of suicide and the treatment of suicidal behavior, such as psychotherapy, psychopharmacological approaches, and effective organization of care, including surveillance and the use of online tools. The final part of the book focuses on the need for and development of a personalized approach within the field of suicide prevention.

Book Depression and the Social Environment

Download or read book Depression and the Social Environment written by Philippe Cappeliez and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1993-08-10 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of the essays in Depression and the Social Environment explore the etiological role of the social environment, suggesting that for "neglected populations" -- immigrants and refugees, native Indians, the unemployed, the physically disabled, the elderly, caregivers of the impaired elderly, children and adolescents, and women -- depression has significant environmental roots. These populations and the manifestations of depression that they exhibit have been largely overlooked because the importance of the social environment itself has been insufficiently investigated. The contributors of most of the essays discuss empirical findings and, taken together, provide a unique in-depth review and analysis of the international literature on etiology, intervention, and policy implications. The approach developed in this volume has obvious significance for other mental health problems with social-environmental roots. In bridging the academic/practice divide, the authors address the interrelated concerns of researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.
