Download or read book Killer Kakuro written by Mark Huckvale and published by Phoenix. This book was released on 2005-12-07 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hooked on su doku? Then move on up to kakuro! Kakuro is the latest Japanese puzzle craze for all those who thought they had reached the limit in logic puzzles. Kakuro is all about numbers, and like su doku it is solved by using logic, with absolutely no guesswork. However, Kakuro takes puzzling a step further: it requires simple arithmetic skills as well as reasoning. But don't worry if maths isn't your strong point. While some of the logic relies on you being able to add up, the sums only ever involve a few single digits, and the totals in this book are never more than 45. You don't need to be a maths whiz, nor do you need to have a calculator handy. You will have no difficulty in doing the sums in your head. As with the incredibly addictive su doku, the fun in doing kakuro is working out the logic that gets you from the starting position to the single solved grid of digits. So if you're bored with su doku - kakuro is the next logical step . . .

Download or read book Mensa Kakuro written by Conceptis Puzzles and published by Sterling Publishing Company, Inc.. This book was released on 2006-08 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What could be more appealing to Mensa members--or anyone who enjoys a good challenge--than a cunning test of intelligence and logic? That's exactly what these 250 puzzles provide. The trick to kakuro is in making it all add up: the game begins with a grid that looks like a crossword, except that some squares contain small numbers in the corner. Fill in all the empty boxes using the numbers 1 to 9 without repeats so that the sum of each horizontal set of digits equals the number in the black triangle to its left, and the sum of each vertical set of digits equals the number in the triangle above it. The kakuro puzzles start out simple...and get more difficult as the book progresses.

Download or read book The Solotype Catalog of 4 147 Display Typefaces written by Dan X. Solo and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-05-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of many books on typography, Dan X. Solo was also the proprietor of his own typography shop in Oakland, California — an establishment dedicated to unusual typography and special effects. This comprehensive catalog offers graphic designers a dazzling selection of over 4,000 typefaces and optical effects available from Solotype Typographers. Here, in Solo's words, is "a great cast of characters" — the alphabet — abetted by a cornucopia of typographical ideas and an endless resource of letters, words, phrases, slogans, logos, humorous comments, headlines, and graphic symbols. Individual sections of the book display a rich variety of typefaces in categories such as Condensed, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Rustic, Thick-and-tin, Calligraphic, Uncials, Latins, and Blackletter. Samples are imaginatively presented. "Stagecoach," for example, is printed in Fargo typeface, evoking dusty trails, rawhide, and ten-gallon hats, while "Sizzling summer savings" appears appropriately in the flamboyant Firebug typeface. All typefaces are indexed for quick and easy reference. As entertaining as it is practical and useful, this impressive treasury of versatile typefaces and optical effects will be indispensable to busy commercial artists as an inexhaustible source of typographic ideas and a "swipe file" of words, phrases, and letters for use in graphic art projects.
Download or read book The Art of Prolog second edition written by Leon S. Sterling and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1994-03-10 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of The Art of Prolog contains a number of important changes. Most background sections at the end of each chapter have been updated to take account of important recent research results, the references have been greatly expanded, and more advanced exercises have been added which have been used successfully in teaching the course. Part II, The Prolog Language, has been modified to be compatible with the new Prolog standard, and the chapter on program development has been significantly altered: the predicates defined have been moved to more appropriate chapters, the section on efficiency has been moved to the considerably expanded chapter on cuts and negation, and a new section has been added on stepwise enhancement—a systematic way of constructing Prolog programs developed by Leon Sterling. All but one of the chapters in Part III, Advanced Prolog Programming Techniques, have been substantially changed, with some major rearrangements. A new chapter on interpreters describes a rule language and interpreter for expert systems, which better illustrates how Prolog should be used to construct expert systems. The chapter on program transformation is completely new and the chapter on logic grammars adds new material for recognizing simple languages, showing how grammars apply to more computer science examples.

This book, written by the developer of OPL, is a comprehensive introduction to the OPL programming language and its application to problems in linear and integer programming, constraint programming, and scheduling. Readers should be familiar with combinatorial optimization, at least from an application standpoint.
Download or read book Synonymous with Nothing written by Emily Stone and published by . This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summer of 2015, I traveled by train from St. Petersburg to Beijing. Following the Trans-Siberian route, I crossed from Moscow to Irkutsk (making stops in Suzdal, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, and Listvyanka) where I picked up the Trans-Mongolian train, then continued on to Ulaanbaatar and, finally, arrived in Beijing. Over the course of six weeks, I photographed in the urban environments of the places where I stopped, as well as on the trains and buses themselves, and purchased old photographs at various flea markets along the way. Collected here are the photographs made on the train and in the cities, as well as scanned copies of the found images. Knitted together in a single thread, the different sets of images tell the interwoven stories of my observations in each location, the journey on the train, and create a fictitious history of the places themselves.
