Mundus ́ extensive compilation accurately reflects the book ́s title. He was, indeed, a hooker. The time an ice-cream cone saved my life, plus other close calls. The time I hollered at Jackie Onassis for jay-walking on the island of St. Maarten. The St. Maarten Sting: Or, How I Sold the Cricket III Borrowing a storyline from the movie The Sting, I sell my other boat and outsmart a couple of Caribbean pirates. Portrait of the Artist as an Idiot. Three-time Loser, Fourth-time Winner. The two happiest times in a man ́s life are when he buys a boat and sells it . . . and sells it and sells it, and hopefully sells it again, like I did!Getting to the Heart of Things.I remarry, burn my snow shoes and retire to Hawaii, where I plant pineapples and fruit trees, adopt a orphaned 350 lb. wild boar, and survive open-heart surgery, aneurysm repair and prostate cancer. Download or read book How to Catch a Shark written by Anthony Amos and published by . This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To understand a little more about what this book is about, here is a recap on a couple of chapters. Identifying Your Prey What is a shark in today's business world? Sharks are tough, self-made, multi-millionaire and billionaire tycoons and they are always searching for the best businesses and products that America has to offer. There is even a critically-acclaimed reality show called Shark Tank where entrepreneurs try to convince a panel of sharks to part with their own money and become investors in their company. Warren Buffet, Richard Branson, Oprah, Ted Turner - these are powerful people who are potential investors in your company - all are sharks. Entrepreneurs understand how much value a shark can bring to their effort; they bring their business acumen, their connections, they can bring advice. But no matter what phase a company is in, the owner needs to be able to identify the different types of sharks or they could easily be gobbled up themselves. Amos describes the unique types of sharks, from the nocturnal Nurse shark who is known for being the silent partner; they may invest as part of a group and really only care about the return on their investment, to the Hammerhead shark, the most social of the sharks who enjoy swimming in large schools of other business experts and have no natural enemies. These and several more types of sharks can provide the funding and connections you may desperately need as an entrepreneur, but if you pick to hunt the wrong shark you may end up just chumming the waters. What's For Supper? Amos introduces how to never lose the millionaire mindset, even if your bank account may not reflect the same. Crediting a nice guy attitude, he shares how you may need to cut your losses when hunting for sharks, but that you need to do it nicely. How sometimes you can land the wrong shark, and what to do about it, and Anthony introduces his personal friend, business partner, and shark, Kevin Harrington. "Nice guys are shark bait," says Amos, and he describes his own personal stories and brushes with the wrong sharks including explaining why congruent values are critical, adding value to business is a priority, and creating a partnership that is fun and rewarding is your best chance for hunting sharks. According to Amos, entrepreneurs hunting for their own shark should ignore the old saying that "nice guys finish last." And they should also remind themselves of another saying, this one from John Cassis, "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice." Using some history from our last decade of financial collapse, Amos explains how the me-first attitude in business was turned upside down and entrepreneurs realized their approach had to change. Increased collaboration with suppliers, taking on financial strategic partners and teaming with other companies who shared similar demographics, even taking the option of returning to the workforce while still stoking the embers of ambition on a part-time basis; all of these became critical for success in a new economy and marketplace.
Download or read book Sharks and People written by Thomas P. Peschak and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At once feared and revered, sharks have captivated people since our earliest human encounters. Children and adults alike stand awed before aquarium shark tanks, fascinated by the giant teeth and unnerving eyes. And no swim in the ocean is undertaken without a slight shiver of anxiety about the very real—and very cinematic—dangers of shark bites. But our interactions with sharks are not entirely one-sided: the threats we pose to sharks through fisheries, organized hunts, and gill nets on coastlines are more deadly and far-reaching than any bite. In Sharks and People acclaimed wildlife photographer Thomas Peschak presents stunning photographs that capture the relationship between people and sharks around the globe. A contributing photographer to National Geographic, Peschak is best known for his unusual photographs of sharks—his iconic image of a great white shark following a researcher in a small yellow kayak is one of the most recognizable shark photographs in the world. The other images gathered here are no less riveting, bringing us as close as possible to sharks in the wild. Alongside the photographs, Sharks and People tells the compelling story of the natural history of sharks. Sharks have roamed the oceans for more than four hundred million years, and in this time they have never stopped adapting to the ever-changing world—their unique cartilage skeletons and array of super-senses mark them as one of the most evolved groups of animals. Scientists have recently discovered that sharks play an important role in balancing the ocean, including maintaining the health of coral reefs. Yet, tens of millions of sharks are killed every year just to fill the demand for shark fin soup alone. Today more than sixty species of sharks, including hammerhead, mako, and oceanic white-tip sharks, are listed as vulnerable or in danger of extinction. The need to understand the significant part sharks play in the oceanic ecosystem has never been so urgent, and Peschak’s photographs bear witness to the thrilling strength and unique attraction of sharks. They are certain to enthrall and inspire.
Download or read book Caye to Success written by Mati Gomoll and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2003-09-24 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text contains the life and times of Antonio Lorenzo Vega Sr., of Caye Caulker, Belize. It documents the life of a man who raises himself from poverty through sheer hard work at sea. Suddenly, after leading his village to remarkable success, Tony suffers the loss of his career at the very hands of those whom he has elevated. Tony is handed a second chance at recovery when a steady stream of backpackers forces him to open up his property to campers. Besides managing his hotel, Tony continues to enhance his community through his leadership. Caye to Success also shares the inside story of the formation of Belizes first fishing cooperative with the public. It describes the times surrounding this happening and how Tony Vega Sr., led a group of about three dozen islanders to join him in forming this organization. Today, this cooperative makes it possible for lobster-lovers the world over to experience a taste of Belize with a simple visit to the Red Lobster Restaurants in the United States. Reviews: Kamela Palma Chairperson National Council on Ageing Punta Gorda, Belize, Central America December 2003 Caye to Success for me as a Belizean, tells the history of one of our islands through the life of a gentle man and one of our countrys visionaries. The book spans the years from 1916 to today and relates a story of struggle, survival and achievement as experienced by Mr. Antonio Vega Sr., his parents, his wife and his children. It tells a tale of Belizes own struggle for modernization as experienced through the microcosm of this particular small island as it comes to grips with the riches of the sea and the harnessing of those riches for the betterment of the Caye Caulker community and of our beloved jewel. Mati has undertaken what so many of us with parents whose histories have shaped our communities and our country should do. I admire the honesty with which she weaves her tale and I admire the fact that she has had the courage to write this book. It is my sincere hope that all Belizeans will read this book and be inspired by it as I have been. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ James A. Download or read book Boats to Burn written by Natasha Stacey and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under a Memorandum of Understanding between Indonesia and Australia, traditional Indonesian fishermen are permitted access to fish in a designated area inside the 200 nautical mile Australian Fishing Zone (AFZ). However, crew and vessels are regularly apprehended for illegal fishing activity outside the permitted areas and, after prosecution in Australian courts, their boats and equipment are destroyed and the fishermen repatriated to Indonesia. This is an ethnographic study of one group of Indonesian maritime people who operate in the AFZ. It concerns Bajo people who originate from villages in the Tukang Besi Islands, Southeast Sulawesi. It explores the social, cultural, economic and historic conditions which underpin Bajo sailing and fishing voyages in the AFZ. It also examines issues concerning Australian maritime expansion and Australian government policies, treatment and understanding of Bajo fishing. The study considers the concept of "traditional" fishing regulating access to the MOU area based on use of unchanging technology, and consequences arising from adherence to such a view of "traditional"; the effect of Australian maritime expansion on Bajo fishing activity; the effectiveness of policy in providing for fishing rights and stopping illegal activity, and why Bajo continue to fish in the AFZ despite a range of ongoing restrictions on their activity.
