Book excerpt: * Includes free decals and masking foil * Packed with photos and including three color profiles The SU-22 was designed as a high speed, medium range, low level ground attack and reconnaissance aircraft. Although its origin can be traced back to the basic SU7 aircraft of the 1950's, the design was continuously developed emerging as the variable geometry (Swing-wing 30:63) SU17 / 22, the most modern and powerful Warsaw Pact fighter bomber. The intent of the design was to have trouble free use under the most demanding operating and environmental conditions combined with ease of maintenance. The SU22 M4 is still widely used in Europe and the Middle East, being broadly compatible to a Tornado GR1 although lacking the latter's all-weather capability. Like the Tornado it is equipped with a laser range finder designator and terrain following radar and could be equipped with bombs, guided missiles and rockets in addition to the installed twin 30mm canon for the air to surface attack role. Air-to-air threats were countered via rockets, guided missiles and canon. This is a Monograph on this supersonic fighter bomber, containing 165 photos, including numerous color photos with English/Polish photo captions, featuring external and internal views, and 3 color profiles. Includes a free decal sheet. About the Series This is a classic series of highly illustrated books on the best machines of war, with several hundred photographs of each aircraft or vehicle. With close-up views of the key features of each machine, including its variations, markings and modifications, customizing and creating a model has never been easier. Includes extra features such as decals and masking foil.

Book RAF East German Fast Jet Pilots in the Cold War

Download or read book RAF East German Fast Jet Pilots in the Cold War written by Nigel Walpole and published by Air World. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You’ll learn what these pilots went through knowing that their actions or reactions could trigger a global nuclear war.” —Historic Aviation RAF and East German Fast-Jet Pilots in the Cold War is the result of ten years of research, involving many visits to the former German Democratic Republic by a small Anglo/German team of military specialists. Their purpose was to explore the lives of RAF and East German fighter and ?ghter-bomber pilots, in the air and on the ground, at work and play, during the Cold War in North Germany. The book is based largely on personal testimony from these pilots, coupled with facts drawn from official archives and comment from other historical sources. Where possible, political considerations have been avoided and no outright criticism has been intended, readers being left to draw their own conclusions on the thinking, strategies, equipment and tactics discussed. Far from being an intellectual polemic on the Cold War, the text and photographs merely record a slice of history as seen through the eyes of a select few who took up arms in the defense of their respective homelands—and faced each other daily across the Iron Curtain. In an insightful conclusion, Nigel Walpole reassess the threat that both sides believed was genuine during those tense decades of the Cold War and examines the possible course and nature of a conflict which neither NATO nor the Warsaw Pact wanted but both actively planned for. “The writer has avoided politics where possible, and in doing so reassesses the threat and uncertainty—and ultimately the fears—both air forces faced. It’s truly fascinatingl.” —Flypast

Book Iranian F 14 Tomcat Units in Combat

Download or read book Iranian F 14 Tomcat Units in Combat written by Tom Cooper and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So formidable an opponent did the Iraqi airforce consider the F-14 that during the Iran-Iraq war, they ordered their pilots not to engage F-14s and the presence of one in an area was usually enough to empty it of Iraqi aircraft. Officially losses where tiny; only one F-14 was lost in aerial combat (to a MiG-21), one to a control problem and one downed by a ground-to-air missile. This book looks at the F-14's Iranian combat history and includes first hand accounts from the pilots themselves. It will consider key engagements and the central figures involved, illustrating the realities, successes and failures of the Iranian air campaign.

Book The Chemistry of Superheavy Elements

Download or read book The Chemistry of Superheavy Elements written by Matthias Schädel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-04-30 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to treat the chemistry of superheavy elements, including important related nuclear aspects, as a self contained topic. It is written for those – students and novices -- who begin to work and those who are working in this fascinating and challenging field of the heaviest and superheavy elements, for their lecturers, their advisers and for the practicing scientists in the field – chemists and physicists - as the most complete source of reference about our today's knowledge of the chemistry of transactinides and superheavy elements. However, besides a number of very detailed discussions for the experts this book shall also provide interesting and easy to read material for teachers who are interested in this subject, for those chemists and physicists who are not experts in the field and for our interested fellow scientists in adjacent fields. Special emphasis is laid on an extensive coverage of the original literature in the reference part of each of the eight chapters to facilitate further and deeper studies of specific aspects. The index for each chapter should provide help to easily find a desired topic and to use this book as a convenient source to get fast access to a desired topic. Superheavy elements – chemical elements which are much heavier than those which we know of from our daily life – are a persistent dream in human minds and the kernel of science fiction literature for about a century.
