Book Study on Quasi Stationary Plasma Accelerators

Download or read book Study on Quasi Stationary Plasma Accelerators written by L. V. Leskov and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been established that the discharge in a pulsed plasma accelerator consists of a number of consecutive stages, part of which have a quasi-stationary nature. This is because the time during which the plasma parameters change in each stage is considerably greater than the transit time of the ions. It is interesting to compare the work of a pulsed accelerator in this regime with a regime where the length of the acceleration stage considerably exceeds the characteristic times of the other stages and is close to total discharge time. Presented in the paper are results from a study on such a quasi-stationary accelerator (discharge time tau sup p =150-4000 microseconds), and a comparison is made with a 'standard pulsed' accelerator (tau sup p =15 microseconds).

Book Theoretical Analysis of Several Linear Steady flow Plasma Accelerators with Crossed Electric and Magnetic Fields

Download or read book Theoretical Analysis of Several Linear Steady flow Plasma Accelerators with Crossed Electric and Magnetic Fields written by Clarence W. Matthews and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solutions are presented of the one-dimensional equations of motion of an inviscid, compressible conducting single fluid moving through a channel with crossed electric and magnetic fields for a variety of area distributions and current density distributions. A limited amount of computed data is presented for most of the solutions which permit comparison of the effects on the flow of the various area and current density distributions as well as the effects of certain other important parameters.

Book Phase Space Dynamics in Plasma Based Wakefield Acceleration

Download or read book Phase Space Dynamics in Plasma Based Wakefield Acceleration written by Xinlu Xu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores several key issues in beam phase space dynamics in plasma-based wakefield accelerators. It reveals the phase space dynamics of ionization-based injection methods by identifying two key phase mixing processes. Subsequently, the book proposes a two-color laser ionization injection scheme for generating high-quality beams, and assesses it using particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations. To eliminate emittance growth when the beam propagates between plasma accelerators and traditional accelerator components, a method using longitudinally tailored plasma structures as phase space matching components is proposed. Based on the aspects above, a preliminary design study on X-ray free-electron lasers driven by plasma accelerators is presented. Lastly, an important type of numerical noise—the numerical Cherenkov instabilities in particle-in-cell codes—is systematically studied.

This book was released on 1969 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes the basic types of accelerating mechanisms which are operational in stationary plasma accelerators and gives a brief survey of theoretical, calculated and experimental investigations which were carried out by the author. The report is an analysis of 3 questions. (1) Basic principles and properties of stationary plasma accelerators. (2) The essence of stationary compression flows and feasibility of magnetoplasma compressors as thermonuclear devices. (3) Possible arrangements for transient thermonuclear reactors with external magnetic fields.

Book Physics of Laser Crystals

Download or read book Physics of Laser Crystals written by Jean-Claude Krupa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of laser crystals has been constantly developing since the invention of the laser in 1960. Nowadays, more than 1500 wide-band-gap and semiconductors crystals are suitable for the production of the laser effect. Different laser devices are widely used in science, medicine and communication systems according to the progress achieved in the development of laser crystal physics. Scintillators for radiation detection also gained benefit from these developments. Most of the optically active materials offer laser radiations within the 500 to 3000 nm region with various quantum efficiency which fit the usual applications. However, new crystals for laser emissions are needed either in the blue, UV and VUV - region or far IR- region, especially for medicine, computer microchip production and for undiscovered practical uses. Scientific problems of the growth and properties of laser crystals are discussed in numerous books and scientific journals by many scientists working in the field. Therefore, we thought that joint discussions of the scientific and technical problems in laser physics will be useful for further developments in this area. We have proposed to held a Workshop on Physics of Laser Crystals for attempting to induce additional advances especially in solid state spectroscopy. This NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) was hold in Kharkiv • Stary Saltov th nd (Ukraine) on august 26 - September 2 , 2002, and was mainly devoted to the consideration 0 f modem approaches and Iast results in physics of laser crystals.

Book Characteristics of a Continuous flow Induction Plasma Accelerator

Download or read book Characteristics of a Continuous flow Induction Plasma Accelerator written by J. D. Brooks and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characteristics of continuous-flow induction plasma accelerators with a 10-kilocycle, single-phase driving coil on supersonic nozzles were studied. Pressure measurements and vane-deflection measurements were made in a 15-centimeter-diameter accelerator at various mass flow rates. Charged-particle velocities were obtained in 15-centimeter-diameter and 10-centimeter-diameter accelerators by measuring with photoelectric detectors the time required for a change in flow luminosity to travel a known distance. Pressure-probe measurements indicated that the entire flow, including the boundary layer and the separated-flow region, was accelerated in the 15-centimeter-diameter accelerator. The largest increase in pilot pressure was 250 percent of the cold-flow value with 20 kilowatts of 10-kilocycle driving power. The charged-particle velocities increased as the mass flow rate was reduced and as the power was increased. The maximum charged-particle velocity obtained was 40,000 meters per second in the 10-centimeter-diameter accelerator. Average velocity and thrust obtained from vane-deflection measurements were in good agreement with those obtained from pressure-probe measurements.
