Book Study of Static and Dynamical Properties of Complex Antiferroelectrics Materials

Download or read book Study of Static and Dynamical Properties of Complex Antiferroelectrics Materials written by Kinnary Yogeshbhai Patel and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this dissertation is the investigation of the static and dynamical properties of the complex antiferroelectric materials using Effective Hamiltonian method and First principles calculations. In chapter 3, a novel elemental interatomic coupling in perovskite materials which bilinearly couples the antiferroelectric displacements of cations with the rotations of the oxygen octahedra. This new coupling explains a very complex crystal structure of prototypical antiferroelectric PbZrO3. My explanation provides a unified description of many other complex antipolar crystal structures in variety of perovskite materials, including the occurrence of incommensurate phases in some of them. In chapter 4, results and analysis of atomistic simulations explaining the dynamics of antiferroelectric distortions in BiFeO3 (BFO) bulk under hydrostatic pressure are reported. This system undergoes a phase transition on cooling from paraelectric Pm3 m̄ state at high temperatures to an intermediate P4/mbm phase followed by Pnma state at low temperatures. On the basis of my calculations, I prepared an analytical model of these phase transitions. The model developed can be easily applied to predict dynamics of antipolar cation motion in improper ferroelectrics. I found out that the antipolar modes do not soften themselves in the high temperature regime but they soften in the intermediate and Pnma phases, due to trilinear energetic coupling term. In chap- ter 5, the finite temperature behavior of the polar, antipolar, and antiferrodistortive phonons in a prototypical hybrid improper ferroelectric (BiFeO3)1/(NdFeO3)1 1:1 superlattice is studied. In the low-temperature phase, a spontaneous polarization appears due to trilinear coupling of structural and antiferroelectric (ferrroelectric) modes. In chapter 6, results of first-principles calculations to investigate and analyze properties of (001) thin films made of the most complex perovskite system, namely NaNbO3, are presented.Ferroelectric, antiferroelectric and antiferrodistortive properties of this thin film are reported and discussed, as a function of misfit strain.

Book Study of Complex Ferroelectric and Antiferroelectric Systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rhombohedral (R), monoclinic (MA/MC) and tetragonal (T) phases are found in coexistence in a compositionally segregated xPb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3- yPb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3- zPbTiO3 (PIN-PMN-PT) (nominal composition x/y/z = 30/35/35) single crystal. Polarized light (PLM) measurements and X-ray diffraction (XRD) on both single crystal and ceramic series confirms the existence of 2 different monoclinic phases. A phase diagram in the MPB region of the PIN-PMN-PT solid solution is proposed based on both single crystals and ceramic material.Further study on the temperature driven rhombohedral (R) (R3m)  monoclinic (MA) phase transition in the single crystals and ceramics with MPB composition are carried out. It was found that the rhombohedral domain is able to return to its original state after annealed at above the RMA phase transition temperature (TR-M) but below the Currie temperature (TC). A polarization reversal model is proposed based on the polarization rotation theory.Solid solutions of (1-x)Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3-xPb(M1/2W1/2)O3(M = Zn2+ and Mn2+) have been prepared by solid state reaction with composition x up to 30% for Zn and 50% for Mn. The influence of Zn2+ and Mn2+ on structure, electrical and magnetic properties are revealed. (1-x)PbZrO3-xPb(Mn1/2W1/2)O3 (x = 0 - 0.1) as another new solid solution system was also prepared by the solid state reaction method. Its crystal structure, dielectric properties and antiferroelectricity were investigated and it was proven to be an excellent candidate for energy storage devices. In summary, the study for PIN-PMN-PT ternary solid solution near its MPB composition shall provide a general guideline for designing high performance peizocrystals. The study of PZ-based and PMW-based antiferroelectric solid solutions provided better understanding of antiferroelectric perovskites and provides a different approach for the design of soft antiferroelectric material with high energy density.

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a joint effort of the Research Materials Information Center (RMIC) of the Solid State Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Libraries and Information Systems Center at Bell Telephone Laboratories (BTL) Murray Hill, N. J. The Research Materials Information Center has, since 1963, been answering inquiries on the avail ability, preparation, and properties of inorganic solid-state research materials. The preparation of bibliographies has been essential to this function, and the interest in ferroelectrics led to the compila tion of the journal and report literature on that subject. The 1962 book Ferroelectric Crystals, by Jona and Shirane, was taken as a cutoff point, and all papers through mid-1969 received by the Center have been included. The Libraries and Information Systems Center of BTL has, over a period of years, developed a proprie tary package of computer programs called BELDEX, which formats and generates indexes to biblio graphic material. This group therefore undertook to process RMIC's ferroelectric references by BELDEX so that both laboratories could have the benefit of an indexed basic bibliography in this important research area.

Book Ferroelectrics Literature Index

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on ferroelectricity and ferroelectric materials started in 1920 with the discovery by Valasek that the variation of spontaneous polarization in Rochelle salt with sign and magnitude of an applied electric field traced a complete and reproducible hysteresis loop. Activity in the field was sporadic until 1935, when Busch and co-workers announced the observation of similar behavior in potassium dihydrogen phosphate and related compounds. Progress thereafter continued at a modest level with the undertaking of some theoretical as well as further experimental studies. In 1944, von Hippel and co-workers discovered ferroelectricity in barium titanate. The technological importance of ceramic barium titanate and other perovskites led to an upsurge of interest, with many new ferroelectrics being identified in the following decade. By 1967, about 2000 papers on various aspects of ferroelectricity had been published. The bulk of this widely dispersed literature was concerned with the experimental measurement of dielectric, crystallographic, thermal, electromechanical, elastic, optical, and magnetic properties. A critical and excellently organized cpmpilation based on these data appeared in 1969 with the publica tion of Landolt-Bornstein, Volume 111/3. This superb tabulation gave instant access to the results in the literature on nearly 450 pure substances and solid solutions of ferroelectric and antiferroelectric materials. Continuing interest in ferroelectrics, spurred by the growing importance of electrooptic crystals, resulted in the publication of almost as many additional papers by the end of 1969 as had been surveyed in Landolt-Bornstein.

Book excerpt: The study of ferroelectricity is a branch of solid state physics which has shown rapid growth during the recent years. Ferroelectric materials exhibit unusual electric properties which make them useful in modern (opto)electronic technology, esp. display technology. Ferroelectric and antiferroelectric liquid crystals, including also various polymer forms, are the hottest research topic today in liquid crystals. The field is at the very beginning of industrial exploitation - a sensitive phase in which a good reference work is needed and will have a broad spectrum of readers both at universities and in industry.
