Book Exclusive Phi Production Beam Spin Asymmetry Measurements with CLAS12

Download or read book Exclusive Phi Production Beam Spin Asymmetry Measurements with CLAS12 written by Brandon Clary and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the beam spin asymmetry (BSA) of the exclusive electroproduction of the vector phi(1020) meson through its decay into charged Kaons have been performed. The data set used was based on the RG-A run period from the recently upgraded CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS12) in Hall B at Jefferson National Lab (JLab). The run period used a 10.6 GeV longitudinally polarized electron beam and an unpolarized hydrogen target. The available statistics collected allow for detailed studies of the W, -t, xB, and Q2 dependencies of the BSA amplitudes from phi production. The BSA measurements will shed light on the exchange mechanisms responsible for phi production at JLab energies. In this dissertation, a non-zero BSA is observed, which suggests a possible enhancement of pseudo-scalar exchange mechanism near production threshold. Therefore, the non-zero BSA may be a result of the interference of the pseudo-scalar exchange mechanism with a scalar one. Ultimately, information on the dominant exchange mechanism will aid in the development of a Generalized Parton Distribution (GPD) based description of these processes in the context of hard to soft transition.

Book The Double Spin Asymmetry in Exclusive Pi Electro production with CLAS

Download or read book The Double Spin Asymmetry in Exclusive Pi Electro production with CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eg1b run was conducted using CLAS at Jefferson Lab in 2000 by the CLAS collab- oration. A 1.6 GeV - 5.6 GeV polarized electron beam and polarized nuclear targets (composed of NH3 and ND3) were used, allowing single and double spin asymmetries to be measured. This analysis deals with the double spin asymmetry A.

Book Beam Spin Asymmetry of Exclusive Coherent Electroproduction of the 0 Off 4He

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To understand the partonic structure of nucleons in nuclei, measuring the beam spin asymmetry (BSA) from exclusive processes is important to get at the so-called Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) that describe the partons' behavior inside the nucleon. In particular, BSA in Deeply Virtual Meson Production (DVMP) can offer valuable constraints on the transverse GPDs which are not accessible with other exclusive processes. Furthermore, DVMP measurements on bound nucleons can offer insights into structure modification due to the nuclear environment. The interpretation of this bounded nucleon DVMP on nuclear targets rests on the assumption of factorization and that higher-order effects are negligible. These assumptions can be tested through measurement of nuclear DVMP on a spin-0 target, where at leading order the BSA should be zero. In the CLAS EG6 experiment, the spin-0 helium-4 gas target is probed via the deeply virtual (Q^2 > 2 (GeV/c)^2) photons from 6 GeV longitudinally polarized electrons. The results of coherent meson electroproduction of pi-zero off heliium-4, where the BSA is measured to be consistent with zero, will be presented and discussed. This benchmark measurement is in agreement with symmetry arguments of a recent theoretical formulation that offers a framework complementary to that of the GPDs and gives confidence in the assumptions made for future studies of exclusive nuclear processes.

Data have been obtained using a polarized electron beam of 4.3 GeV and with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The amplitude of the sin phi modulation increases with the momentum of the pion relative to the virtual photon, z, with an average amplitude of 0.038+/-0.005+/-0.003 for 0.5

Book Beam Spin Asymmetry Measurements for Two Pion Photoproduction at CLAS

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overarching goal of this analysis, and many like it, is to develop our understanding of the strong force interactions within the nucleon by examining the nature of their excitation spectra. As the resonances of these spectra have very short lifetimes (tau = 1x10-23 s) and often have very similar masses, it is often impossible to directly observe resonances in the excitation spectra of nucleons. Polarization observables allow us to study the resonances by looking at how they affect the spin state of final state particles. The beam asymmetry is a polarization observable that allows us to detect the sensitivity of these resonances, and other transition mechanisms, to the electric vector orientation of incident photons. Presented in this thesis are first measurements of the beam asymmetries in the resonant region for the reaction channel pgamma p --> p [pi]+ [pi]-focusing on the intermediate mesonic states rho^0 and f^0, and the final state pions. The analysis used data from the g8b experiment undertaken at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab), the first experiment at JLab to use a linearly polarized photon beam. Using the coherent Bremsstrahlung facility and the CLAS detector of Hall B at JLab allowed for many multi-channel reactions to be detected and the first measurements of many polarization observables including those presented here. A brief overview of the theoretical framework used to undertake this analysis is given, followed by a description of the experimental details of the facilities used, then a description of the calibration of the Bremsstrahlung tagging facility which the author undertook, and finally the analysis is presented and the resulting measurements.

Book Measurement of Longitudinal Double Spin Asymmetries of pi Production in P over arrow P over arrow Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of Longitudinal Double Spin Asymmetries of pi Production in P over arrow P over arrow Collisions at sqrt s written by Adam Philip Kocoloski and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spin dependent measurements provide incisive tests for modern theories of particle physics. The discovery that the integral of the quark helicity distribution is much too small to account for the spin of the proton is an excellent case in point. It inspired an intense period of theoretical scrutiny and a new generation of experiments to study [Delta]g, the helicity distribution of gluons in the nucleon. In particular, the unique polarized proton collider at RHIC enables a class of asymmetry measurements that are directly sensitive to gluon polarization. The STAR experiment at RHIC measures the double spin asymmetry A[subscript LL] for a variety of final states in collisions of longitudinally polarized protons in order to constrain [Delta]g. Asymmetries for mid-rapidity charged pion production benefit from large cross sections and the excellent tracking and particle identification capabilities of the STAR Time Projection Chamber. This thesis presents the first measurements of charged pion A[subscript LL] at STAR. The measurements are compared to predictions based on perturbative QCD calculations and from this comparison model-dependent constraints are placed on the integral gluon polarization [Delta]G.

Download or read book Precise Measurements of Beam Spin Asymmetries in Semi Inclusive pi 0 Production written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present studies of single-spin asymmetries for neutral pion electroproduction in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of 5.776 GeV polarized electrons from an unpolarized hydrogen target, using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. A substantial sin [Phi]h amplitude has been measured in the distribution of the cross section asymmetry as a function of the azimuthal angle [Phi]h of the produced neutral pion. The dependence of this amplitude on Bjorken x and on the pion transverse momentum is extracted with significantly higher precision than previous data and is compared to model calculations.

Download or read book Asymmetry in Inclusive pi sup P Production at 22 GeV BNL E925 written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary results from Experiment E925 on inclusive pion asymmetries from a 22 GeV/c polarized proton beam on a carbon target show significant asymmetries for[pi][sup[+-]] production similar to those observed earlier at the ZGS and Fermilab with beams of 12 and 200 GeV respectively. This experiment demonstrates the viability of using the analyzing power in inclusive pion production for high energy beam polarimetry at RHIC. Inclusive proton asymmetries are consistent with zero.

Book Beam spin Asymmetries from Semi inclusive Pion Electroproduction

Download or read book Beam spin Asymmetries from Semi inclusive Pion Electroproduction written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have measured the moment A{sup sin?}{sub LU} corresponding to the polarized electron beam-spin asymmetry in SIDIS. A{sup sin?}{sub LU} is a twist-3 quantity providing information about quark-gluon correlations. Data were taken with the CLAS Spectrometer at Jefferson Lab using a 5.498 GeV longitudinally polarized electron beam and an unpolarized liquid hydrogen target. All three pion channels (pi, pi° and pi−) were measured simultaneously over a large range of kinematics within the virtuality range Q2 ̃1.0-4.5 GeV2. The observable was measured with good statistical precision over a large range of z, P{sub T}, x{sub B}, and Q2, which permits comparison with several reaction models. The discussed measurements provide an upgrade in statistics over previous measurements, and serve as the first evidence for the negative sign of the?− sin? Moment.

Book Spin Asymmetries for Exclusive and Semi exclusive Reactions with CLAS

Download or read book Spin Asymmetries for Exclusive and Semi exclusive Reactions with CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extensive experimental program to measure the spin structure of the nucleons is being carried out with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab using a longitudinally polarized electron beam incident on a longitudinally polarized target. Spin degrees of freedom offer new tools to explore the baryon structure and test the many theoretical approaches that attempt to characterize it, such as effective Lagrangian models and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. I will present preliminary results for single and double spin asymmetries for exclusive [pi][sup 0], [pi][sup +], and [eta] electroproduction in the resonance region compared with unitary isobar and dynamical models, as well as [rho] electroproduction for DIS kinematics. I will also report on an analysis of the semi-inclusive and exclusive channels where double and single spin asymmetries were used to study transverse momentum dependent parton distributions.
