Book Reagents for Silicon Mediated Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Reagents for Silicon Mediated Organic Synthesis written by Philip L. Fuchs and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-11-07 with total page 859 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades the importance of organosilicon chemistry has greatly increased because it has opened a number of new synthetic strategies. Silicon reagents are usually low-cost, versatile and allow a wide range of reactions. This is the first Handbook to compile essential Silicon containing reagents and makes use of the leading reagent database e-EROS. Another hot volume in the series Handbooks of Reagents for Organic Synthesis, this is a must-have resource for all synthetic chemists working in drug development and medicinal chemistry. For the selection the Editor focussed on three key synthetic approaches with the greatest impact: 1. Use of silicon as a 'temporary tether' by unifying a reactive pair of functional groups and taking advantage of their template-biased intramolecular cyclization. 2. The specific use of the silane functionality as a hetero t-butyl group, often colloquially referred to as the use of silicon as a 'fat proton'. 3. The use of the Brook rearrangement as an 'anion relay stratagem'. A new feature in this Handbook is the reagent finder, an alphabetically organized lookup table arranged by organic functionality and specific structure of the silicon atom to which it is bound.

The eBook includes updated chapters on topics relevant to contemporary cancer research published in the journal, Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery. This volume covers scientific and patented novel chemotherapeutic agents and drugs for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer and Ras/ Raf /MEK/ERK pathway, P1K, AKT and mTORC1/2 inhibitors, ATPase inhibitors for cancer therapy, and sphingomyelin biosynthesis which regulates cancer cell death and growth. Other chapters also explain research on biochemical regulation i.e. cell cycle and energy metabolism, the role of genetic variations of FcγRs gamma receptors in monoclonal antibody based anti-cancer therapy and effectiveness of antiangiogenic therapy, endogenous angiogenesis inhibitors and anti-angiogenic drugs for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, prevention of cancer by ribonucleotide reductase, anticancer activity of Erlotinib in glioblastoma and the mechanisms of action of nanodrugs and nano-sized camptothecin drugs in cancer chemotherapy. The volume also covers recent studies in the field of onconutrition. The broad range of topics covered in this second volume will be of immense interest to clinicians, scientists and R&D experts seeking new targets for the prevention of cancer, novel oncogenic biomarkers, and methods for cancer therapy.

Book Autophagy in plants and algae

Download or read book Autophagy in plants and algae written by Diane C Bassham and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autophagy (also known as macroautophagy) is an evolutionarily conserved process by which cytoplasmic components are nonselectively enclosed within a double-membrane vesicle known as the autophagosome and delivered to the vacuole for degradation of toxic components and recycling of needed nutrients. This catabolic process is required for the adequate adaptation and response of the cell, and correspondingly the whole organism, to different types of stress including nutrient starvation or oxidative damage. Autophagy has been extensively investigated in yeasts and mammals but the identification of autophagy-related (ATG) genes in plant and algal genomes together with the characterization of autophagy-deficient mutants in plants have revealed that this process is structurally and functionally conserved in photosynthetic eukaryotes. Recent studies have demonstrated that autophagy is active at a basal level under normal growth in plants and is upregulated during senescence and in response to nutrient limitation, oxidative stress, salt and drought conditions and pathogen attack. Autophagy was initially considered as a non-selective pathway, but numerous observations mainly obtained in yeasts revealed that autophagy can also selectively eliminate specific proteins, protein complexes and organelles. Interestingly, several types of selective autophagy appear to be also conserved in plants, and the degradation of protein aggregates through specific adaptors or the delivery of chloroplast material to the vacuole via autophagy has been reported. This research topic aims to gather recent progress on different aspects of autophagy in plants and algae. We welcome all types of articles including original research, methods, opinions and reviews that provide new insights about the autophagy process and its regulation.
