Book Unsteady Transonic Small Disturbance Theory with Strong Shock Waves

Download or read book Unsteady Transonic Small Disturbance Theory with Strong Shock Waves written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory to correct the transonic small disturbance (TSD) equation to treat strong shock waves in unsteady flow is developed. The technique involves the addition of higher order terms, which are formally of negligible magnitude, to the low frequency TSD equation. These terms are then chosen such that any shock waves in the flow have strengths approximately equal to the appropriate Rankine-Hugoniot shock strength. Two correcting approaches are investigated. The first is to derive a correction for the mean steady flow and then simply use this corrected form for oscillatory flows. The second is to derive a correction for both steady and oscillatory parts of the flow. This second development is the most satisfactory and comparisons of the present results with Euler equation results are generally favorable, particularly regarding shock location, although there are some discrepancies in the pressure distribution in the leading edge region. Book Inviscid Small Disturbance Theory for Nonuniform Transonic Flows

Download or read book Inviscid Small Disturbance Theory for Nonuniform Transonic Flows written by G. R. Inger and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classical inviscid theory of irrotational small three dimensional perturbations in uniform transonic flows is extended to include arbitrarily-nonuniform non-adiabatic two dimensional or axisymmetric basic flows. It is shown that these nonuniformities introduce significant disturbance field vorticity, thereby invalidating the introduction of a potential function. A generalized form of the usual nonlinear transonic velocity perturbation equation and a set of disturbance vorticity relations are derived which clearly indicate the nonuniform flow effects; also developed are equations governing the pressure and total enthalpy disturbances. Extensions of the usual transonic similitude laws involving several new nonuniform flow parameters are formulated for disturbance fields caused either by inner boundary surface deflections or by an outer disturbance such as an impinging shock wave. Finally, possible numerical and analytical methods of solution of the generalized transonic equations are discussed. (Modified author abstract).

Book A Study of Hypersonic Small disturbance Theory

Download or read book A Study of Hypersonic Small disturbance Theory written by Milton D. Van Dyke and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is shown that the hypersonic theory can be interpreted so that it applies also in the range of linearized supersonic flow theory. Hence, a single small-distrubance theory, and associated similarity rule, apply at all supersonic speeds above the trnasonic zone.

Book Transonic Small Disturbance Theory for Dusty Gases

Download or read book Transonic Small Disturbance Theory for Dusty Gases written by Donald A. Drew and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The correction to transonic small-disturbance theory induced by the addition of contaminant particles (e.g., dust) to the gas is analyzed. Two-phase flow equations governing the particles and inviscid fluid are used. The dusty gas version, a particular limit of the flow equations in which the volumetric concentration of the particles is small, but the mass concentrations of particles and fluid are comparable, is employed. In this setting, a model in which the gas and particles may be viewed as an equivalent gas with modified properties, is derived. This generalized gas model behaves like a normal gas with a modified value (the ratio of specific heats). Using this model, a simple method of analyzing transonic small-disturbance theory, by employing a modified transonic similarity parameter, is used to account for the effect of the dust. (Author).

Book Research on Topics in Transonic Flow Theory and Adaptive Grid Generation

Download or read book Research on Topics in Transonic Flow Theory and Adaptive Grid Generation written by D. Nixon and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes work concerned with some topics connected with a transonic flow theory and also some problems in adaptive mesh procedures. The work on adaptive mesh procedures is concerned with the development of adaptive mesh strategies and solution procedures for highly clustered adaptive meshes. It has been found that the strong conservation law form of the governing equations in computational variables cannot capture the shock waves correctly for arbitrary clustering. Methods for correcting this problem have been investigated. The work on transonic flow theory is concerned with the existence of multiple solutions in full potential calculations. Since the full potential equation is difficult to analyze compared with small disturbance equation, multiple solutions have been found using transonic small disturbance theory. These results have been analyzed using the transonic integral equation theory and indicate that the transonic potential theory is not formulated uniquely.
