Book Root Caries From Prevalence to Therapy

Download or read book Root Caries From Prevalence to Therapy written by M. Rocha de Olivera Carrilho and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case reports and clinical trials conducted in various countries show, more and more frequently, a positive correlation between the presence of original teeth and prevalence of root caries in older age. Because this is a global trend, it is likely that the predicted increase in the worldwide elderly population may soon cause a significant increase in the number of people requiring effective means of preventing and treating root surface caries. In response to this development, a team of outstanding contributors has reviewed the most important aspects of root caries. This new volume presents their findings along with discussions of how to deal with this health issue that progressively affects the oral health balance. The chapters in this book are divided in four core parts: Epidemiology, Biological Determinants, Lesion Assessment and Features and Preventive and Operative Therapies. The collection of state-of-the-art articles provides a broad overview and will serve as a reference for clinicians as well as scientists and, hopefully, will encourage new research.

Book Caries Excavation Evolution of Treating Cavitated Carious Lesions

Download or read book Caries Excavation Evolution of Treating Cavitated Carious Lesions written by F. Schwendicke and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2018-09-13 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently there is no reason, in most cases of cavitated caries lesions, to remove affected tissue. This book presents evidence-based research on the topic and provides assessments of diagnostic devices. It offers new insights into how a dentine carious cavity can be managed by either tissue removal or restoration. Methods for preserving dental tissue are presented and ample evidence highlights the need to seal with a quality restorative material. An update on how to conduct a randomized clinical trial is followed by a chapter on agreed upon terminology for supporting improved communication among oral health professionals around the world. This is a must-read for general practitioners, restorative specialists, dental students, and oral hygienists/therapists.

Book Changes in the Surface Chemistry of Enamel Exposed to Acid

Download or read book Changes in the Surface Chemistry of Enamel Exposed to Acid written by Anthoula Karagianna and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental caries is a result of acid production by plaque bacteria and manifests with mineral loss and hard tissue dissolution. Dental erosion is the irreversible loss of dental hard tissue caused by acidic agents without bacterial involvement. Numerous techniques have been described for the early detection of dental caries and erosion. However, they all rely on detecting already lost tissue, suggesting that the disease process has been operating for some time. Recent research suggests that uptake of protons from bacterial or dietary acids precedes hard tissue dissolution. The aim of this research project was to examine whether protonation of sound and carious sterile and non-sterile human primary tooth surfaces which have been subjected to acids of known pH occurs and can be detected in vitro and in situ with a simple and clinically applicable technique. A total of 219 human primary tooth surfaces were investigated in vitro. Of these, 110 sound and carious sterile and non-sterile tooth surfaces were examined at baseline and 109 after an acidic challenge. Universal pH indicator solution was used to assess the protonation state of the tooth surfaces. Significantly more tooth surfaces were found protonated after the acidic challenge compared to baseline for all the groups of teeth (p

Book Dental Caries

  • ISBN : 1118935829
  • Pages : 485 pages

Download or read book Dental Caries written by Ole Fejerskov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental Caries is a major new work on a subject of vital concern to all dentists. It builds on the work of two former books, Textbook of Clinical Cariology and Fluoride in Dentistry, to present a definitive resource on caries prevention and treatment. The management of dental caries is central to daily work in dental offices because caries is ubiquitous in all populations, lesion development continues lifelong and caries is the most common cause of tooth loss around the world. The book's logical structure consists of four parts, covering: The Disease; Diagnosis; Prevention, Non-Operative and Operative Treatment and Prognosis. It provides a clear understanding of the disease process, be it at an individual or population level. The Editors are joined by 28 expert authors who have contributed a wealth of chapters, ranging from the role of fluorides to restoring the tooth. Careful balance between prophylaxis and surgical intervention guides the reader through the maze of treatment decisions, while the breadth of the book reflects diverse, and sometimes controversial, opinion on dental caries.
