Book Polymerization of Heterocycles Ring Opening

Download or read book Polymerization of Heterocycles Ring Opening written by S. Penczek and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-02-03 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymerization of Heterocycles (Ring Opening) is a collection of papers presented at the International Symposium on Polymerization of Heterocycles (Ring-Opening) held in Warsaw, Poland on June 23-25, 1975. The first paper describes the developments and physical meaning of ion pairs and higher ionic aggregates. Another paper explains the process of obtaining linear polymers, containing rings in the main chain. The book interprets the various behaviors of polymers that can result in high optical yields of stereoelectivity ratios equal to 8. The text then discusses future trends in aldehyde and carbonyl polymerization, including some problem areas pertaining to failures to homopolymerize or copolymerize tetrachloroethylene oxide. Another paper reviews the elemental reactions of selected combinations of copolymerization; the next paper discuses aspects of the mechanism of nucleophilic opening of epoxide rings through studies of certain kinetics. The book then analyzes the ability of lactams to undergo ring-opening polymerization, which mainly depends on the ring size and on the substitution and presence of heteroatoms in the lactam ring itself. The text also discusses the preparation, properties, and applications of the heterochain polymers in medicine or biologically active materials. The book can provide useful information for biochemists, researchers dealing with inorganic and organic compounds, and scientists working in the fields of chemistry such as synthetic chemistry, as well as polymer engineering.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the last ASI in Turkey in Sept. 1995, the olefin metathesis has made remarkable strong developments with an incredible speed in various directions. New catalyst systems have been developed which have resulted in the synthesis of novel materials. Other fascinating developments have been the new catalysts for stereoselective metathesis and catalysts with considerable functional group tolerance. These new catalysts in addition to Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerisation (ROMP) and Acyclic Diene Metathesis (ADMET) are now powerful tools for Ring Closing Metathesis (RCM) and have found many applications in the synthesis of natural products. A lot of information has been established about all aspects of the olefin metathesis and there is a vast literature concerning the process, covering the initiators, mechanistic features and applications of this reaction in organic and polymer synthesis. The NATO ASI on rd th ROMP and Related Chemistry took place in Polanica-Zdroj, Poland during 3 to 15 Sept. 2000, to highlight the developments in this area and to discuss the prospects and visions for the year 2000 and beyond. The aims of the ASI were: to provide a platform for dissemination of knowledge; to promote communication between people who have a serious interest in this field of chemistry; to help establishing international scientific contacts and to provide an opportunity for the scientists with an appropriate scientific background to learn of recent developments in this field of science. There were 15 lecturers and 67 participants in this NATO ASI.

Book Crown Ethers and Phase Transfer Catalysis in Polymer Science

Download or read book Crown Ethers and Phase Transfer Catalysis in Polymer Science written by Lon Mathias and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase transfer catalysis or interfacial catalysis is a syn thetic technique involving transport of an organic or inorganic salt from a solid or aqueous phase into an organic liquid where reaction with an organic-soluble substrate takes place. Over the past 15 years there has been an enormous amount of effort invested in the development of this technique in organic synthe sis. Several books and numerous review articles have appeared summarizing applications in which low molecular weight catalysts are employed. These generally include either crown ethers or onium salts of various kinds. While the term phase transfer catalysis is relatively new, the concept of using a phasetrans fer agent (PTA) is much older~ Both Schnell and Morgan employed such catalysts in synthesis of polymeric species in the early 1950's. Present developments are really extensions of these early applications. It has only been within the last several years that the use of phase transfer processes have been employed in polymer synthesis and modification. Similarly, the use of polymer-bound phase transfer agents is also a recent development. These and related areas have nonetheless enjoyed explosive growth as mea sured by the number of publications and the variety of applica tions which have appeared. Several reviews dealing with these l 6 polymer-related investigations have been published.

Book Polymer Science A Comprehensive Reference

Download or read book Polymer Science A Comprehensive Reference written by and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-05 with total page 7752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The progress in polymer science is revealed in the chapters of Polymer Science: A Comprehensive Reference, Ten Volume Set. In Volume 1, this is reflected in the improved understanding of the properties of polymers in solution, in bulk and in confined situations such as in thin films. Volume 2 addresses new characterization techniques, such as high resolution optical microscopy, scanning probe microscopy and other procedures for surface and interface characterization. Volume 3 presents the great progress achieved in precise synthetic polymerization techniques for vinyl monomers to control macromolecular architecture: the development of metallocene and post-metallocene catalysis for olefin polymerization, new ionic polymerization procedures, and atom transfer radical polymerization, nitroxide mediated polymerization, and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer systems as the most often used controlled/living radical polymerization methods. Volume 4 is devoted to kinetics, mechanisms and applications of ring opening polymerization of heterocyclic monomers and cycloolefins (ROMP), as well as to various less common polymerization techniques. Polycondensation and non-chain polymerizations, including dendrimer synthesis and various "click" procedures, are covered in Volume 5. Volume 6 focuses on several aspects of controlled macromolecular architectures and soft nano-objects including hybrids and bioconjugates. Many of the achievements would have not been possible without new characterization techniques like AFM that allowed direct imaging of single molecules and nano-objects with a precision available only recently. An entirely new aspect in polymer science is based on the combination of bottom-up methods such as polymer synthesis and molecularly programmed self-assembly with top-down structuring such as lithography and surface templating, as presented in Volume 7. It encompasses polymer and nanoparticle assembly in bulk and under confined conditions or influenced by an external field, including thin films, inorganic-organic hybrids, or nanofibers. Volume 8 expands these concepts focusing on applications in advanced technologies, e.g. in electronic industry and centers on combination with top down approach and functional properties like conductivity. Another type of functionality that is of rapidly increasing importance in polymer science is introduced in volume 9. It deals with various aspects of polymers in biology and medicine, including the response of living cells and tissue to the contact with biofunctional particles and surfaces. The last volume is devoted to the scope and potential provided by environmentally benign and green polymers, as well as energy-related polymers. They discuss new technologies needed for a sustainable economy in our world of limited resources. Provides broad and in-depth coverage of all aspects of polymer science from synthesis/polymerization, properties, and characterization methods and techniques to nanostructures, sustainability and energy, and biomedical uses of polymers Provides a definitive source for those entering or researching in this area by integrating the multidisciplinary aspects of the science into one unique, up-to-date reference work Electronic version has complete cross-referencing and multi-media components Volume editors are world experts in their field (including a Nobel Prize winner)

Book Metal Catalyzed Carbonylative Polymerizations of Cyclic Ethers

Download or read book Metal Catalyzed Carbonylative Polymerizations of Cyclic Ethers written by Yessi Permana and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-08-24 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant research activities have occurred in the area of polymers. Challenges to control structures and properties have attracted polymer scientists to seek better synthetic strategies than existing ones. One of the challenges is to develop a synthetic strategy towards poly(4-hydroxybutyrate) or known as well as poly( -lactone) - a polymer known to be very difficult to achieve from ring opening of its lactone monomer. This book describes possible strategies to achieve such a polymer by metal catalysis. Instead of directly ring opening the lactone, a synthetic strategy by carbonylative polymerization allows cyclic ethers to be converted into polymers with the same structures as ring opened-lactones."

Book Metal Catalyzed Polymerization of Cyclic Olefins

Download or read book Metal Catalyzed Polymerization of Cyclic Olefins written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have been interested in polymerization of cyclic olefins using transition metal catalysts. Two important polymerization fashions have been studied, ring opening metathesis polymerization and coordination insertion polymerization. Various kinds of transition metal complex are known to catalyze the ring opening metathesis polymerization. Among those transition metal complex, ruthenium has a great advantage of less oxophilicity. A less oxophilic nature of ruthenium allows to polymerize functionalized monomer and to utilize alcohol⁄water as reaction medium. Several examples of the polymerization of functionalized monomer are known, however, very few of the polymerization in water is known. In addition, ring opening metathesis polymerization does not involve extra reagents and production of by products. From the green chemistry stand point, the utilization of water and clean reaction has a significant meaning. We have reported the investigation of the ring opening metathesis polymerization of oxo-functionalized cyclic olefin in water medium using ruthenium salt (Chapter 2). The polynorbornene from the coordination-insertion polymerization has great features as engineering plastics, and because of its properties many research projects of the coordination polymerization of norbornene have been done. Whereas, few examples of polymerization studies of other cyclic olefin have been reported. Among these cyclic olefins, particularly of cyclobutene derivatives have never been reported, which is because of the facile pericyclic ring opening reaction of cyclobutene during polymerization and ring opening metathesis polymerization as a side reaction. This our report is the first report that cyclobutene derivatives are polymerized without pericyclic ring opening reaction or ring opening metathesis polymerization to afford high molecular weight addition polymer (Chapter 3).
