Book Studies of Rare metal Deposits in the Northwest Territories

Download or read book Studies of Rare metal Deposits in the Northwest Territories written by W. D. Sinclair and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains four papers that report on a wide range of geoscientific activities related to various rare-metal deposits in the Northwest Territories. Two papers represent the results of work carried out on the Blatchford Lake intrusive suite and the associated Thor Lake rare-metal deposits of niobium, tantalum, beryllium, yttrium, rare-earth elements, and gallium. A detailed gravity survey and computer modelling provides an understanding of the three dimensional geometry of the 23 km wide Blatchford Lake. Another paper summarizes some of the extensive pegmatite research done by the University of Manitoba in the Northwest Territories during the 1980s, providing information on the geological setting, geochemistry, and economic potential of four previously undocumented or poorly known rare-element pegmatite occurrences at Ayler Lake, Torp Lake, Chantry Inlet, and the Foxe fields in the Rae Province. Another paper presents a thorough documentation of the geological settings, characteristics, and metallogeny of selected mineral occurrences in the southern part of the Proterozoic Great Bear magnetic zone.

Book Geological Survey of Canada Current Research Online no 2000 C1

Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada Current Research Online no 2000 C1 written by Sunil S. Gandhi and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2000 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A distinctive group of giant quartz veins characterizes the Great Bear magmatic zone east of Great Bear Lake, Northwest Territories. They are topographically conspicuous, have attracted attention from mineral prospectors, and contain occurrences of uranium, copper sulphides, and other minerals. This paper presents results of the first study of fluid inclusions from giant quartz veins in this zone. Samples were studied from the Crowfoot and Ted uranium occurrences. It begins with descriptions of the regional geological setting, the quartz veins and associated stockworks, and the two occurrences studied. It then describes the fluid inclusion study methodology, petrographic observations, and temperature & salinity determinations of the fluid inclusion samples. The results are discussed with respect to the multi-stage developmental history of the quartz veins.

Book The Geochemical and Mineralogical Controls on the Environmental Mobility of Rare Earth Elements from Tailings Nechalacho Deposit Northwest Territories

Download or read book The Geochemical and Mineralogical Controls on the Environmental Mobility of Rare Earth Elements from Tailings Nechalacho Deposit Northwest Territories written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increased demand for rare earth elements (REEs) for applications in modern technologies has led to an increase in REE exploration. Several deposits are expected to begin mining within a decade, but few studies have examined the possible environmental effects created by these mines. Metal toxicity is thought to be greater in aqueous environments when metals occur as free ions rather than complexes, and the speciation can also impact the treatment technologies utilized to reduce metal concentrations. This research investigates the mineralogical source of REEs and the mechanism of REE mobility in low-temperature waters that have interacted with pilot plant tailings from the Nechalacho deposit, Northwest Territories. The Nechalacho deposit is owned by Avalon Rare Metals Inc. and located approximately 100 km east of Yellowknife. The deposit is hosted within a hydrothermally altered layered nepheline-sodalite syenite in the peralkaline Blatchford Lake complex. The main REE ore minerals are zircon, fergusonite, allanite, monazite, bastnäsite, and synchisite-parasite. Characterization of the tailings using mineral liberation analyzer (MLA) show that the ore minerals are fine grained and well liberated. Bastnäsite and synchisite-parasite are the only potentially soluble ore minerals at low temperature and near-neutral pH. Shake flask experiments were designed to simulate the interaction of tailings with three different leach waters to identify soluble phases and mobile elements. Decanted solutions from the shake flasks were filtered to 0.45um and 0.01um. Speciation modelling of the 0.01um filtrate suggests that carbonate ligands will form the dominant complexes with the REEs, and

Book Significant Mineral Deposits of the Northwest Territories

Download or read book Significant Mineral Deposits of the Northwest Territories written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document compiles information on significant undeveloped mineral deposits in the Northwest Territories, some of which require further exploration and others of which require imaginative solutions to transportation and infrastructure obstacles to development. An introduction reviews the territorial mining industry and the types of mineral deposits found. The document then examines 49 sites of significant mineralisation, most of which host undeveloped deposits with large tonnages and significant grades. Several once-mined sites that still contain abundant future reserves are also included, as well as smaller deposits with high mineral potential in less-explored regions. The deposits are presented in sections by region: central mainland, eastern mainland, western mainland, and Arctic islands.

Book Economic Potential of Base Metal and Gold Mining in Newfoundland

Download or read book Economic Potential of Base Metal and Gold Mining in Newfoundland written by Brian W. Mackenzie and published by Kingston, Ont. : Centre for Resource Studies, Queen's University. This book was released on 1989 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assessment of base metal and gold supply are based on the years 1946-85, subdivided into decades to examine time trends. Money values are expressed in constant 1987 Canadian dollars. Appraisals are made on a potential value, before-tax basis, including all direct costs and revenues associated with exploration and development, then on an after-tax basis considering the application of federal and Newfoundland income and mining taxation systems to the overall potential values. The level and components of mining taxation are compared to other provinces and territories and base metal and gold activities are compared to those in Canada and in the Appalachian Region. The capability developed to assess the economic potential in Newfoundland is applied to evaluate and compare the impact of regional development policy options, including geologic data base development, direct assistance for mineral exploration, support for new mine development, production stage incentives, and assistance for mines faced with temporary or permanent closure.
