Download or read book Nano and Microstructural Design of Advanced Materials written by M. A. Meyers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-05 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of the nanoscale effects has been recognized in materials research for over fifty years, but it is only recently that advanced characterization and fabrication methods are enabling scientists to build structures atom-by-atom or molecule-by molecule. The understanding and control of the nanostructure has been, to a large extent, made possible by new atomistic analysis and characterization methods pioneered by transmission electron microscopy. Nano and Microstructural Design of Advanced Materials focuses on the effective use of such advanced analysis and characterization techniques in the design of materials. - Teaches effective use of advanced analysis and characterization methods at an atomistic level - Contains many supporting examples of materials in which such design concepts have been successfully applied
Download or read book Fatigue of Materials written by Subra Suresh and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-10-29 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a leading researcher in the field, this revised and updated second edition of a highly successful book provides an authoritative, comprehensive and unified treatment of the mechanics and micromechanisms of fatigue in metals, non-metals and composites. The author discusses the principles of cyclic deformation, crack initiation and crack growth by fatigue, covering both microscopic and continuum aspects. The book begins with discussions of cyclic deformation and fatigue crack initiation in monocrystalline and polycrystalline ductile alloys as well as in brittle and semi-/non-crystalline solids. Total life and damage-tolerant approaches are then introduced in metals, non-metals and composites followed by more advanced topics. The book includes an extensive bibliography and a problem set for each chapter, together with worked-out example problems and case studies. This will be an important reference for anyone studying fracture and fatigue in materials science and engineering, mechanical, civil, nuclear and aerospace engineering, and biomechanics.

Download or read book Superalloys 2008 written by Roger C. Reed and published by Wiley-TMS. This book was released on 2008-09-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 11th International Symposium on Superalloys held September 14-18, 2008, in Champion, Pennsylvania. The symposium covered all aspects of the development, production, behavior and integration of superalloys, and related high temperature materials, into gas turbines for aircraft, power generation and other applications. Symposium topics included cast, wrought and powder superalloys and associated coating systems. Behavioral studies in these areas were also discussed: solidification processing environmental properties mechanical behavior alloy development life prediction methodologies modeling and simulation performance of materials in service environments high temperature coatings joining and repair techniques Emphasis is placed on the perspective of the customer, e.g., the airlines, military, and power generation utilities. Current trends in customer requirements and the latest response of the superalloys community to customer challenges are highlighted in the volume.

Download or read book Real time Testing of Titanium Sheet and Extrusion Coupon Specimens Subjected to Mach 2 7 Supersonic Cruise Aircraft Wing Stresses and Temperatures written by Tjerand Lunde and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accuracy of three accelerated flight-by-flight test methods for material selection, and fatigue substantiation of supersonic cruise aircraft structure was studied. The real time stresses and temperatures applied to the specimens were representative of the service conditions in the lower surface of a Mach 2.7 supersonic cruise aircraft wing root structure. Each real time flight lasted about 65 minutes, including about one hour at (500 F) in the cruise condition. Center notched coupon specimens from six titanium materials were tested: mill-annealed, duplex-annealed, and triplex-annealed Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V sheets; mill-annealed Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V extrusion; mill-annealed Ti-6Al-4V sheet; and solution-treated and aged Ti-6Al-4V extrusion. For duplex-annealed Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V sheet, specimens with single spotweld were also tested. The test results were studied in conjunction with other related data from the literature for: material selection, structural fabrication, fatigue resistance of supersonic cruise aircraft structure, and fatigue test acceleration procedures for supersonic cruise aircraft.
