NOUS MONTRONS QUE LA TRANSMISSION EST DETERMINEE PAR LES INSTITUTIONS DE CHAQUE PAYS. NOUS EVALUONS L'HOMOGENEITE DE LA TRANSMISSION DANS LES FUTURES PAYS MEMBRES DE L'UEM. CETTE INVESTIGATION, ESSENTIELLEMENT EMPIRIQUE, PROCEDE EN PLUSIEURS ETAPES. PREALABLEMENT A LA COMPARAISON, NOUS DEFINISSONS LA POLITIQUE MONETAIRE COMME L'ACTION DISCRETE DES AUTORITES MONETAIRES SUR LE TAUX D'INTERET DU MARCHE INTERBANCAIRE. NOUS MONTRONS AINSI QUE LA FRANCE A STRICTEMENT SUIVI LA POLITIQUE MONETAIRE ALLEMANDE DEPUIS 1987. PUIS, NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS AUX MECANISMES DE TRANSMISSION DE LA POLITIQUE MONETAIRE A L'ECONOMIE REELLE. NOUS APPUYONS NOTRE ETUDE SUR LES QUATRE GRANDS PAYS EUROPEENS, L'ALLEMAGNE, LA FRANCE, L'ITALIE ET LE ROYAUME UNI SUR LA PERIODE 1975 A 1994. DANS LE DEUXIEME CHAPITRE, NOUS PRESENTONS LE ROLE DES STRUCTURES FINANCIERES DANS LES CANAUX DE TRANSMISSIONS DE LA POLITIQUE MONETAIRE CE QUI NOUS PERMET DE DEGAGER DES CRITERES DE COMPARAISON DES STRUCTURES FINANCIERES ALLEMANDES, FRANCAISES, ITALIENNES ET BRITANNIQUES EN VUE DE LA MISE EN OEUVRE DE LA POLITIQUE MONETAIRE UNIQUE. DANS LE TROISIEME CHAPITRE, DES EVALUATIONS EMPIRIQUES SUR DES MODELES VAR MONTRENT QUE LES EFFETS A ATTENDRE D'UN CHOC DE POLITIQUE MONETAIRE NE PASSENT PAS FORCEMENT PAR LES MEMES CANAUX DE TRANSMISSION SELON LES PAYS. CEPENDANT, LES EFFETS GLOBAUX DES CHOCS DE POLITIQUE MONETAIRE SUR LES OBJECTIFS FINAUX DE PRODUCTION ET DE PRIX SONT RELATIVEMENT HOMOGENES DANS LES QUATRE PAYS. LE QUATRIEME CHAPITRE SE CONCENTRE SUR LE ROLE DU MARCHE DU TRAVAIL DANS LA TRANSMISSION DES VARIATIONS DE LA DEMANDE FINALE A L'INFLATION. NOS RESULTATS MONTRENT LA POSSIBILITE DE L'EXISTENCE D'UN ARBITRAGE ENTRE INFLATION ET CHOMAGE, Y COMPRIS DANS LE LONG TERME. ILS MONTRE SURTOUT QUE LE COUT EN CHOMAGE DES POLITIQUES DE DESINFLATION S'EST ACCRU EN ALLEMAGNE, EN FRANCE, EN ITALIE ET AU ROYAUME UNI AU COURS DES QUINZE DERNIERES ANNEES. CETTE AUGMENTATION EST PARTICULIEREMENT DRAMATIQUE EN FRANCE. ENFIN, LE CINQUIEME CHAPITRE PROPOSE D'EXPLIQUER POURQUOI LA COURBE DES TAUX A ETE UN BON INDICATEUR AVANCE DE L'ACTIVITE EN EUROPE DEPUIS 25 ANS.

Book Financial Structure and Monetary Transmission in Europe

Download or read book Financial Structure and Monetary Transmission in Europe written by Gabe J. De Bondt and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I can fully recommend this book to those interested in the transmission process of monetary policy.' - Harry Garretsen, De Economist Due to financial market imperfections it is imperative to analyse the relationship between financial structure and the monetary policy transmission process in Europe to effectively design and implement European monetary policy. Focusing on the years 1980-1995 and providing empirical evidence for six European countries, namely Germany, France, Italy, the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, the author discusses whether cross-country variations in financial structure have a systematic relationship with inter-country differences in the monetary transmission process. The analysis of this is invaluable as differences in financial structures across EMU countries may hamper the implementation of a common European monetary policy in the future. The conclusion is that some elements of the financial structure are clearly relevant and applicable for European monetary policy and the monetary transmission process in particular.

Book The Effects of Financial Crises on the Binding Force of Contracts Renegotiation Rescission or Revision

Download or read book The Effects of Financial Crises on the Binding Force of Contracts Renegotiation Rescission or Revision written by Başak Başoğlu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-25 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about one of the most controversial dilemmas of contract law: whether or not the unexpected change of circumstances due to the effects of financial crises may under certain conditions be taken into account. Growing interconnectedness of global economies facilitates the spread of the effects of the financial crises. Financial crises cause severe difficulties for persons to fulfill their contractual obligations. During the financial crises, performance of contractual obligations may become excessively onerous or may cause an excessive loss for one of the contracting parties and consequently destroy the contractual equilibrium and legitimate the governmental interventions. Uncomfortable economic climate leads to one of the most controversial dilemmas of the contract law: whether the binding force of the contract is absolute or not. In other words, unstable economic circumstances impose the need to devote special attention to review and perhaps to narrow the binding nature of a contract. Principle of good faith and fair dealing motivate a variety of theoretical bases in order to overcome the legal consequences of financial crises. In this book, all these theoretical bases are analyzed with special focus on the available remedies, namely renegotiation, rescission or revision and the circumstances which enables the revocation of these remedies. The book collects the 19 national reports and the general report originally presented in the session regarding the Effects of Financial Crises on the Binding Force of Contracts: Renegotiation, Rescission or Revision during the XIXth congress of the International Academy of Comparative Law, held in Vienna, July 2014.

Book The French Revolution in Global Perspective

Download or read book The French Revolution in Global Perspective written by Suzanne Desan and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2013-03-19 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Situating the French Revolution in the context of early modern globalization for the first time, this book offers a new approach to understanding its international origins and worldwide effects. A distinguished group of contributors shows that the political culture of the Revolution emerged out of a long history of global commerce, imperial competition, and the movement of people and ideas in places as far flung as India, Egypt, Guiana, and the Caribbean. This international approach helps to explain how the Revolution fused immense idealism with territorial ambition and combined the drive for human rights with various forms of exclusion. The essays examine topics including the role of smuggling and free trade in the origins of the French Revolution, the entwined nature of feminism and abolitionism, and the influence of the French revolutionary wars on the shape of American empire. The French Revolution in Global Perspective illuminates the dense connections among the cultural, social, and economic aspects of the French Revolution, revealing how new political forms-at once democratic and imperial, anticolonial and centralizing-were generated in and through continual transnational exchanges and dialogues. Book The Macroeconomics of Populism in Latin America

Download or read book The Macroeconomics of Populism in Latin America written by Rudiger Dornbusch and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Again and again, Latin America has seen the populist scenario played to an unfortunate end. Upon gaining power, populist governments attempt to revive the economy through massive spending. After an initial recovery, inflation reemerges and the government responds with wage an price controls. Shortages, overvaluation, burgeoning deficits, and capital flight soon precipitate economic crisis, with a subsequent collapse of the populist regime. The lessons of this experience are especially valuable for countries in Eastern Europe, as they face major political and economic decisions. Economists and political scientists from the United States and Latin America detail in this volume how and why such programs go wrong and what leads policymakers to repeatedly adopt these policies despite a history of failure. Authors examine this pattern in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru—and show how Colombia managed to avoid it. Despite differences in how each country implemented its policies, the macroeconomic consequences were remarkably similar. Scholars of Latin America will find this work a valuable resource, offering a distinctive macroeconomic perspective on the continuing controversy over the dynamics of populism.

Download or read book Women and Trade written by World Bank;World Trade Organization and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2020-09-04 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trade can dramatically improve women’s lives, creating new jobs, enhancing consumer choices, and increasing women’s bargaining power in society. It can also lead to job losses and a concentration of work in low-skilled employment. Given the complexity and specificity of the relationship between trade and gender, it is essential to assess the potential impact of trade policy on both women and men and to develop appropriate, evidence-based policies to ensure that trade helps to enhance opportunities for all. Research on gender equality and trade has been constrained by limited data and a lack of understanding of the connections among the economic roles that women play as workers, consumers, and decision makers. Building on new analyses and new sex-disaggregated data, Women and Trade: The Role of Trade in Promoting Gender Equality aims to advance the understanding of the relationship between trade and gender equality and to identify a series of opportunities through which trade can improve the lives of women.

Book Space and Fates of International Law

Download or read book Space and Fates of International Law written by Ekaterina Yahyaoui Krivenko and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-17 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers the first analysis of the influence exercised by the concept of space on the emergence and continuing operation of international law. By adopting a historical perspective and analysing work of two central early modern thinkers – Leibniz and Hobbes – it offers a significant addition to a limited range of resources on early modern history of international law. The book traces links between concepts of space, universality, human cognition, law, and international law in these two early modern thinkers in a comparative fashion. Through this analysis, the book demonstrates the dependency of the contemporary international law on the Hobbesian concept of space. Although some Leibnizian elements continue to operate, they are distorted. This continuing operation of Leibnizian elements is explained by the inability of international law, which is based on the Hobbesian concept of space, to ensure universality of its normative foundation.

Book The Effects of COVID 19 Vaccines on Economic Activity

Download or read book The Effects of COVID 19 Vaccines on Economic Activity written by Mr. Pragyan Deb and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper empirically examines the economic effects of COVID-19 vaccine rollouts using a cross-country daily database of vaccinations and high frequency indicators of economic activity—nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions, carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, and Google mobility indices—for a sample of 46 countries over the period December 16, 2020 to June 20, 2021. Using surprises in vaccines administered, we find that an unexpected increase in vaccination per capita is associated with a significant increase in economic activity. We also find evidence for non-linear effects of vaccines, with the marginal economic benefits being larger when vaccination rates are higher. Country-specific conditions play an important role, with lower economic gains if strict containment measures are in place or if the country is experiencing a severe outbreak. Finally, the results provide evidence of spillovers across borders, highlighting the importance of equitable access to vaccines across nations.

International Sociology Davis and Dolfsma have edited a volume of 36 essays that provides a first-rate introduction to the recent cutting-edge scholarship in social economics. . . the volume provides an impressive and broad array of articles covering traditional social economic topics. . . Each essay is an excellent point of entry into social economic thought. This volume will be of great interest to economists writing in the heterodox tradition and/or to mainstream economists seeking a richer analysis of socioeconomic relationships. Highly recommended. Q.M. Duroy, Choice As this comprehensive Companion demonstrates, social economics is a dynamic and growing field that emphasizes the key role that values play in the economy and in economic life. The Elgar Companion to Social Economics brings together the leading contributors in the field to elucidate a wide range of recent developments across different subject areas and topics. In so doing the contributors also map the likely trends and directions of future research. This Companion will undoubtedly become a leading reference source and guide to social economics for many years to come. Providing concise discussion and an indication of what to expect in future decades, this interdisciplinary Companion will be of great interest to students and academics of social economics and socio-economics, as well as institutional, evolutionary and heterodox economics.
