Book High Performance and Optimum Design of Structures and Materials II

Download or read book High Performance and Optimum Design of Structures and Materials II written by S. Hernández and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2016-11-28 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing papers from the 2nd High Performance Design of Structures and Materials and the Optimum Design of Structures conference, following the success of a number of meetings since 1989, this book will be of interest to those in any engineering field. The use of novel materials and new structural concepts nowadays is not restricted to highly technical areas like aerospace, aeronautical applications or the automotive industry, but affects all engineering fields including those such as civil engineering and architecture. Most high performance structures require the development of a generation of new higher performance sustainable materials, which can more easily resist a range of external stimuli or react in a non-conventional manner. Emphasis is placed on intelligent structures and materials as well as the application of computational methods for their modelling, control and management. Optimisation problems of interest involve those related to size, shape and topology of structures and materials. Optimisation techniques have much to offer to those involved in the design of new industrial products. The development of new algorithms and the appearance of powerful commercial computer codes with easy to use graphical interfaces have created a fertile field for the incorporation of optimisation into the design process in all engineering disciplines. The book addresses the topic of design optimisation with welcomed contributions on numerical methods, different optimisation techniques and new software. Several of the topics covered are: Composite materials and structures; Material characterisation; Experiments and numerical analysis; Transformable structures; Environmentally friendly and sustainable structures; Evolutionary methods in optimisation; Aerospace structures; Biomechanics application and Pneumatic structures.

Book Three Dimensional Model Development for Buried Pipeline

Download or read book Three Dimensional Model Development for Buried Pipeline written by Mustafa Isam Al-Zubaidi and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pipeline systems are widely used to transport water, sewage, oil, natural gas, and other valuable fluids. The buried pipelines can run over long distances in different soil behaviours and climate conditions. Pipelines should be designed in such a way that they remain functional even when they are subjected to high-intensity soil movements, excessive fluid flows, and different loading conditions. This thesis will illustrate the main parameters that cause failure in buried pipelines, starting by giving an overview of the piping system, that includes pipeline materials, pipeline design procedure, soil properties and pipeline interaction, soil and traffic loading on underground pipelines (external loadings), Fluid flow loads on underground pipeline (internal loadings), Finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis on a pipeline. The thesis will discuss in detail the phenomena of fluid-structure interaction, and a case study of a T-pipe will be analyzed from a fluid-structure analysis perspective. The effect of branch inlet velocity, main inlet velocity, diameter ratio, merging angle, and temperature of the working fluid will be studied. The second part of this work will look at the effect of applied external loadings on a buried pipeline using different boundary conditions. Finally, a simulation model was created to analyze both case scenarios of the fluidstructure interaction with applied external loadings on a buried pipeline under selected conditions. The created model could be used and altered to predict pipe deformation under user-defined conditions. Parameters to be changed that would affect the buried pipe deformation including the soil properties, the pipe material, applied loadings forces, applied loadings location, boundary conditions, fluid properties, fluid flow conditions, thermal conditions, pipe geometry, and the buried pipe location.

Book Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems

Download or read book Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems written by K.L. Reifsnider and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite material systems are the basis for much of the natural world around us and are rapidly becoming the basis for many modern engineering components. A controlling feature for the general use of such systems is their damage tolerance, durability and reliability. The present book is a comprehensive cross section of the state of the art in the field of the durability of polymer-based, composite, and adhesive systems. As such, it is of special value to researchers concerned with the frontier of the field, to students concerned with the substance of the subject, and to the applied community concerned with the finding methodologies that make it possible to design safe and durable engineering components using material systems.

Book Safety Reliability and Risks Associated with Water Oil and Gas Pipelines

Download or read book Safety Reliability and Risks Associated with Water Oil and Gas Pipelines written by Guy Pluvinage and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-14 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Springer has here produced a major debut in English-language publications. It’s the first book to describe very recent methods for pipe defect assessment such as notch fracture mechanics and critical gross strain. Pipelines remain the least expensive transcontinental mean of transport compared to the rail-bound or terrestrial transport. It has become increasingly paramount to ensure the safe utilization of such plant in order to prevent economical, social and ecological losses. This book adds much to the body of knowledge in this area.
