Book Structural Appraisal of Existing Buildings for Change of Use

Download or read book Structural Appraisal of Existing Buildings for Change of Use written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Digest gives guidance for professional engineers on the structural appraisal of existing buildings for a change of use, in particular as required by The Building Regulations for England and Wales. Regulation 6 requires that, in case of material change of use, that is change of use to an hotel, public building or an institution, the building must comply with the requirements of Parts A1, A2, A3 and A4 of Schedule 1. The approach to structural appraisal of an existing building is fundamentally different from that taken in designing the structure of a proposed building. This Digest explains the differences and describes a practical sequence for carrying out such an appraisal. The reporting and implementation of the findings of an appraisal for change of use are outlined. The need for, and approach to, testing of materials and structures are discussed and sources of information are given to aid appraisal. The Digest deals with the structural appraisal of both traditional buildings - constructed using rules of thumb and experience for the layout and sizing of structural members - and those whose structure has been designed, calculated and specified according to engineering principles.

Book Structural Aspects of Building Conservation

Download or read book Structural Aspects of Building Conservation written by Poul Beckmann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-06-25 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical guide to the assessment and repair of historic buildings is invaluable for structural engineers, architects, surveyors and builders working in all aspects of building conservation. Taking a practical step-by-step approach, the authors discuss the appraisal of buildings and the differences in structural behaviour between new and existing structures. Each stage in the appraisal is explained, using examples from the authors' own work. Each major construction material is assessed in detail, with separate sections on masonry, concrete, timber and the particularly complex issues of iron and steel framed buildings. Techniques for testing the ability of a building to continue its existing use or to be converted to a new use are explained.

Book Guideline for Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings

Download or read book Guideline for Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings written by American Society of Civil Engineers and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2000-01 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changing economic conditions, concern for historic preservation, emphasis on fully utilizing conveniently located structures, space shortages, and increasing cost of materials and products used in the construction of new buildings, have resulted in a need to evaluate and more fully utilize the existing building inventory. To this end, this revision of the ASCE Standard Guideline for Structural Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings (a replacement of ASCE 11-90) provides the design community with guidelines for assessing the structural conditions of existing buildings constructed of combinations of material including concrete, masonry, metals, and wood. It consists of an overview of preliminary and detailed assessment procedures, of materials properties and test methods, and of evaluation procedures for various physical conditions of the structure. This information has been compiled and subjected to a consensus review and approved by the ASCE Standards Committee on Structural Condition to provide a much needed resource standards on building condition assessment for selected materials, and for other areas related to the structural performance of buildings. Professional engineers, building owners, and regulatory officials will find this Standard Guideline invaluable.

Book Seismic Evaluation of Existing Buildings

Download or read book Seismic Evaluation of Existing Buildings written by American Society of Civil Engineers and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a three-tiered process for seismic evaluation of existing buildings in any level of seismicity. This standard is intended to serve as a nationally applicable tool for design professionals, code officials, and building owners looking to seismically evaluate existing buildings. It considers various aspects of building performance.

Book Structural Appraisal of Traditional Buildings

Download or read book Structural Appraisal of Traditional Buildings written by Patrick Robson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural appraisal is important to professionals concerned with the repair, maintenance or refurbishment of traditional buildings. It involves recognizing and establishing the cause of any structural damage and, if the damage is still active predicting its course. Such knowledge forms the basis for appropriate and efficient action. This book offers a comprehensive guide to the common causes of structural damage. It examines the techniques for collecting evidence including desk study, visual inspection, distortion survey, testing and ground investigation as well as offering advice on managing liability. Each appraisal is unique. A wide range of investigative techniques are described covering most of the circumstances that are likely to occur in practice. The second edition has been substantially re-written and includes more than 150 diagrams illustrating the main principles. There is additional material on; structural behaviour; initial appraisal; building types; use of iron in buildings; and the problems that occur with buildings built on clay.

Book Structural Analysis of Historic Buildings

Download or read book Structural Analysis of Historic Buildings written by J. Stanley Rabun and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-02-21 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
