Book Structural Analysis of Helicopter Flight and Hangar Decks

Download or read book Structural Analysis of Helicopter Flight and Hangar Decks written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication clarifies and modernizes the text in the current Design Data Sheet, DDS 130-2, used to analyze the structural strength of US Navy ship helicopter flight and hangar decks. This document explains the DDS 130-2 procedure to provide a better understanding of the methodology. The DDS 130-2 and this document provide a uniform standard and simplified method for the strength analysis of the helicopter flight and hangar deck structure on US Navy Ships. The analysis method is specifically for helicopter operations. Any other loading conditions or aircraft operations in the handling areas should be considered separately. The DDS 130-2 includes helicopter with both wheeled and skid type landing gear, this paper focuses on helicopters with wheeled gears only.

Book Modeling Control and Coordination of Helicopter Systems

Download or read book Modeling Control and Coordination of Helicopter Systems written by Beibei Ren and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling, Control and Coordination of Helicopter Systems provides a comprehensive treatment of helicopter systems, ranging from related nonlinear flight dynamic modeling and stability analysis to advanced control design for single helicopter systems, and also covers issues related to the coordination and formation control of multiple helicopter systems to achieve high performance tasks. Ensuring stability in helicopter flight is a challenging problem for nonlinear control design and development. This book is a valuable reference on modeling, control and coordination of helicopter systems, providing readers with practical solutions for the problems that still plague helicopter system design and implementation. Readers will gain a complete picture of helicopters at the systems level, as well as a better understanding of the technical intricacies involved.

Book Simulation and Analysis of Flight Deck Operations on an LHA

Download or read book Simulation and Analysis of Flight Deck Operations on an LHA written by Stephen M. Gates and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this thesis was to develop a model that simulates the interactions between a number of close air support aircraft and helicopters on a flight deck during an amphibious assault. Applications of this model permits a quantitative investigation into the operations of various mixes of current aircraft on a specific flight deck, and with minor modification, the effects of future aircraft and future flight decks can be examined. The model is currently configured for operations aboard an LHA flight deck with two types of transport helicopters and the AV-8 Harrier attack aircraft. The model application presented here considers the maximum number of AV-8 Harriers that could effectively with a composite helicopter squadron during the amphibious assault of a Marine Amphibious Unit.

Book Structural Design Analysis of the Tail Landing Gear Bay and the Vertical Horizontal Stabilizers of the RAH 66 Comanche Helicopter

Download or read book Structural Design Analysis of the Tail Landing Gear Bay and the Vertical Horizontal Stabilizers of the RAH 66 Comanche Helicopter written by Brian Shoop and published by . This book was released on 1997-09-01 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The RAH-66 Comanche's stealth design requires the use of radar- absorbing material (RAM) on the outer skin of the aircraft. The reduced stiffness properties of RAM produce insufficient tail torsional stiffness, necessitating the use of non-radar-absorbing graphite on the outer skin of the tail section. This thesis investigates structural design modifications to increase the tail section's stiffness to allow the use of RAM on the outer skin and still meet all structural requirements. An original model represents the prototype aircraft at first flight. The goal is to create a model using RAM on the outer skin that watches the structural stiffness of the original model. This thesis builds on earlier work conducted at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). Two new design modifications to the tailbone are developed. The best modification increases the torsional stiffness of a baseline model by six percent. Integrating earlier NPS modifications increases torsional stiffness by 12 percent. When RAM is applied to the outer skin of the modified model, torsional stiffness is reduced by only six percent from the baseline as compared to a 24 percent reduction with no modifications. Additional modifications to the vertical and horizontal stabilizers further increase structural stiffness and reduce weight.

Book Structural Response Methods and Evaluation Results for Helicopter Landing Decks on 210 and 270 Foot USCCG Cutters

Download or read book Structural Response Methods and Evaluation Results for Helicopter Landing Decks on 210 and 270 Foot USCCG Cutters written by M. O. Critchfield and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1976, the David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center has been assisting the U.S. Coast Guard in evaluating the strength of several helicopter landing deck configurations for existing 210-foot long cutters and for the new 270-foot cutters. These evaluations were performed based on a combined program of (a) analytical, (b) one-fifth-scale rigid vinyl model, and (c) full-scale investigations for several landing gear load conditions, including the main and tail wheels on the U.S. Navy LAMPS Helicopter. The analytical side of the program included: framing analyses using the finite-element method and other techniques; nonlinear, large-deflection analyses of the deck plating; and web bending analyses in the stiffeners. The web bending stresses referred to here are associated with local out-of-plane bending of the web due to a rotation of the joint between the stiffener web and the deck plating. These web stresses are distinct from those related to ordinary bending of the stiffener in the vertical plane. Web bending stresses in the stiffeners were first observed in full-scale tests on the 210-foot cutter STEADFAST and are not specifically addressed by current design procedures. A one-fifth-scale rigid vinyl model was used to validate the analytical procedures and also to investigate such considerations as load placement, orientation, and tire print geometry.
