Book Strong Convergence and Convergence Rates of Approximating Solutions for Algebraic Riccati Equations in Hilbert Spaces

Download or read book Strong Convergence and Convergence Rates of Approximating Solutions for Algebraic Riccati Equations in Hilbert Spaces written by Kazufumi Ito and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper considers the linear quadratic optimal control problem on infinite time interval for linear time-invariant systems define on Hilbert spaces. The optimal control is given by a feedback form in terms of solution pi to the associated algebraic Riccati equation (ARE). A Ritz type approximation is used to obtain a sequence pi sub n of finite dimensional approximations of the solution to ARE. A sufficient condition that shows N sub n converges strongly to pi is obtained. Under this condition, we derive a formula which can be used to obtain rate of convergence of N sub n to pi. We demonstrate and apply the results for the Galerkin approximation for parabolic systems and the averaging approximation for heredity differential systems. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a collection of papers delivered by the partici pants at the second Conference on Computation and Control held at Mon tana State University in Bozeman, Montana from August 1-7, 1990. The conference, as well as this proceedings, attests to the vitality and cohesion between the control theorist and the numerical analyst that was adver tised by the first Conference on Computation and Control in 1988. The proceedings of that initial conference was published by Birkhiiuser Boston as the first volume of this same series entitled Computation and Control, Proceedings of the Bozeman Conference, Bozeman, Montana, 1988. Control theory and numerical analysis are both, by their very nature, interdisciplinary subjects as evidenced by their interaction with other fields of mathematics and engineering. While it is clear that new control or es timation algorithms and new feedback design methodologies will need to be implemented computationally, it is likewise clear that new problems in computational mathematics arise when implementing a new generation of control algorithms. For these reasons, computational mathematics is mov ing to the forefront in recent developments in modern control theory and conversely control theory and its applications continue to be a fertile area for computationalists. This volume contains a representative cross section of the interdisciplinary blend of analytic and numerical techniques that of ten occur between advanced control design and practical numerical solution of lumped and distributed parameter systems.

Book Strongly Stabilizable Distributed Parameter Systems

Download or read book Strongly Stabilizable Distributed Parameter Systems written by Job Oostveen and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Questions about stability arise in almost every control problem. There are many physical problems in which exponential stability is too strong and for which the concept of strong stability is appropriate. This book provides a solid mathematical framework for a structured approach to strongly stabilizable systems through integration of fundamental theory, physical applications, and numerical results. The author includes a mathematical framework for studying PDE models of large flexible structures, an important class of applications.

Book Differential and Algebraic Riccati Equations with Application to Boundary point Control Problems

Download or read book Differential and Algebraic Riccati Equations with Application to Boundary point Control Problems written by Irena Lasiecka and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides, in a unified framework, an updated and rather comprehensive treatment contered on the theory of ot- pimal control with quadratic cost functional for abstract linear systems with application to boundary/point control problems for partial differential equations (distributed pa- rameter systems). The book culminates with the analysisof differential and algebraic Riccati equations which arise in the pointwisefe- edback synthesis of the optimal pair. It incorporates the critical topics of optimal irregularity of solutions to mi- xed problems for partial differential equations, exact con- trollability, and uniform feedback stabilization. It covers the main results of the theory - which has reached a consi- derable degree of maturity over the last few years - as well asthe authors' basic philosophy behind it. Moreover, it provides numerous illustrative examples of boundary/point control problems for partial differential equations, where the abstract theory applies. However, in line with the purpose of the manuscript, many technical pro- ofs are referred to in the literature. Thus, the manuscript should prove useful not only to mathematicians and theoreti- cal scientists with expertise in partial differential equa- tions, operator theory, numerical analysis, control theory, etc., but also to those who simple wish to orient themselves with the scope and status of the theory presently available. Both continuous theory and numerical approximation theory thereof are included.

Book Controller Design for Distributed Parameter Systems

Download or read book Controller Design for Distributed Parameter Systems written by Kirsten A. Morris and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses controller and estimator design for systems that vary both spatially and in time: systems like fluid flow, acoustic noise and flexible structures. It includes coverage of the selection and placement of actuators and sensors for such distributed-parameter systems. The models for distributed parameter systems are coupled ordinary/partial differential equations. Approximations to the governing equations, often of very high order, are required and this complicates both controller design and optimization of the hardware locations. Control system and estimator performance depends not only on the controller/estimator design but also on the location of the hardware. In helping the reader choose the best location for actuators and sensors, the analysis provided in this book is crucial because neither intuition nor trial-and-error is foolproof, especially where multiple sensors and actuators are required, and moving hardware can be difficult and costly. The mechatronic approach advocated, in which controller design is integrated with actuator location, can lead to better performance without increased cost. Similarly, better estimation can be obtained with carefully placed sensors. The text shows how proper hardware placement varies depending on whether, disturbances are present, whether the response should be reduced to an initial condition or whether controllability and/or observability have to be optimized. This book is aimed at non-specialists interested in learning controller design for distributed-parameter systems and the material presented has been used for student teaching. The relevant basic systems theory is presented and followed by a description of controller synthesis using lumped approximations. Numerical algorithms useful for efficient implementation in real engineering systems and practical computational challenges are also described and discussed.

Book Dynamics and Control of Multibody Systems

Download or read book Dynamics and Control of Multibody Systems written by Perinkulam Sambamurthy Krishnaprasad and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1989 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of complex, interconnected mechanical systems with rigid and flexible articulated components is of growing interest to both engineers and mathematicians. Recent work in this area reveals a rich geometry underlying the mathematical models used in this context. In particular, Lie groups of symmetries, reduction, and Poisson structures play a significant role in explicating the qualitative properties of multibody systems. In engineering applications, it is important to exploit the special structures of mechanical systems. For example, certain mechanical problems involving control of interconnected rigid bodies can be formulated as Lie-Poisson systems. The dynamics and control of robotic, aeronautic, and space structures involve difficulties in modeling, mathematical analysis, and numerical implementation. For example, a new generation of spacecraft with large, flexible components are presenting new challenges to the accurate modeling and prediction of the dynamic behavior of such structures. Recent developments in Hamiltonian dynamics and coupling of systems with symmetries has shed new light on some of these issues, while engineering questions have suggested new mathematical structures. These kinds of considerations motivated the organization of the AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Control Theory and Multibody Systems, held at Bowdoin College in August, 1988. This volume contains the proceedings of that conference. The papers presented here cover a range of topics, all of which could be viewed as applications of geometrical methods to problems arising in dynamics and control. The volume contains contributions from some of the top researchers and provides an excellent overview of the frontiers of research in this burgeoning area.
