Book When Strivings Cease

Download or read book When Strivings Cease written by Ruth Chou Simons and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grace Secures What Striving Cannot In this hustling, image-forward age of opportunity, we feel more anxious than ever. Despite all the affirming memes and self-reflections that dominate social media feeds, approval and worth often seem assigned to what we do rather than who we are. And we end up constantly feeling like we’re behind, lacking, and failing—at home, at work, with friends, with God. Ruth Chou Simons knows something about feeling measured by achievement, performance, and the approval of others. As a Taiwanese immigrant growing up between two cultures, Ruth was always on a mission to prove her worth, until she came to truly understand the one thing that changes everything: the extravagant, undeserved gift of grace from a merciful God. In When Strivings Cease, Ruth guides you on a journey to find freedom from the never-ending quest for self-improvement. She shows you how to confront the ways you look to superficial means of acceptance and belonging; find relief in realizing self-help isn’t the answer because you can’t be so amazing that you won’t need grace; stop seeing God as someone to perform for and start finding delight in responding to his welcome; and let go of trying to rely on your own strength, your own abilities, and your own savvy by truly understanding the freedom Jesus purchased for you. With personal stories, biblical insights, practical applications, and touches of original artwork by Ruth, this transformational book helps you see the beautiful truth that God’s favor is the only currency you need—because in Christ you are enough.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Strivings for the Faith: A Series of Lectures Three suppositions may possibly be made to account for the facts of the case, without allowing the miraculous element: I. That St. Paul said what he knew to be false, with an intent to deceive. Difficulties of this supposition: (i.) What motive could St. Paul have for thus acting? Possible motives, as the desire of wealth, fame, or power, or the desire to gratify some passion, examined, and shown to be baseless, (ii.) He could have had no reasonable prospect of success in carrying out his imposture a) in relation to the other Apostles; U)in preaching among the Gentiles, and contending (i) with the policy of the magistrates; (2)with the interests of the priests; (3)with the prejudices of the people; (4)with the wisdom of the philosophers. II. That he was an enthusiast, imposed upon by the force of an overheated imagination. But he exhibits none of the marks of an enthusiast, and it is even more difficult on this supposition than on the previous one to account for his life and works. III. That he was deceived by the fraud of others. This supposition shown to be impossible and absurd. Hence we must fall back on the supposition that St. Paul does give an authentic account of his conversion, and we must conclude, therefore, that Christianity is a Divine Revelation. Download or read book Letting God Be Enough written by Erica Wiggenhorn and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone thinks you’ve got it together. But inside, you’re asking, “Am I enough?” No matter how good we look to others, the nagging voice of self-doubt is hard to shake. We ask questions like: If people really knew me would they still accept me? Will I be rejected when I can’t perform? Can I pull this off? What if I end up alone? Am I missing out on what life should be because I can’t shake this fear? If you find yourself having thoughts like these, Erica Wiggenhorn wants to lead you to freedom. Drawing from the story of Moses—the greatest self-doubter in the Bible—Erica shows how self-doubt is tied closely to self-reliance. It’s only when you cast yourself on God that you find the true source of strength. Are you enough? The answer is no . . . but your God certainly is. Step out in His power instead of your own and watch your confidence blossom because you’re in the hands of I AM.
