Book Constructive aspects of string localized quantum field theory

Download or read book Constructive aspects of string localized quantum field theory written by Christian Gaß and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: String-localized quantum field theory (SLFT) as an alternative to gauge theory has been under investigation for the last decade because of its conceptual benefits. This thesis is dedicated to the development and investigation of constructive tools for both perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of SLFT. On the non-perturbative side, we provide explicit formulas for the two-point function and the propagator of the so-called "escort field" of the string-localized photon potential. These are needed to describe the dressing of Dirac fields in quantum electrodynamics (QED) with photon clouds ...

This book was released on 2008-10-22 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of essays written in honor of Wolfhart Zimmermann's 80th birthday, most of them based on talks presented at a symposium in his honor. The book shows the unifying force of a subject (Quantum Field Theory) and a person (Zimmermann). It ranges from fundamental questions in quantum physics over applications to particle physics and noncommutative geometry to the latest developments in many body theory and dynamical systems. These key ideas are elucidated by worldwide-recognized experts including Faddeev, Becchi, Buchholz, Lowenstein and Salmhofer.Readers seeking examples on how a subject has evolved, diversified and deepened over the course of several decades and how a single person can influence this process can find here a perfect illustration. Altogether, readers are treated to a high-brow intellectual adventure.

Book The Message of Quantum Science

Download or read book The Message of Quantum Science written by Philippe Blanchard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays is above all intended to pay tribute to the fact that while QM today is a refined and incredibly successful instrument, many issues concerning the internal consistency and the interpretation of this theory are still not nearly as well understood as they ought to be. In addition, whenever possible these essays take the opportunity to link foundational issues to the many exciting developments that are often linked to major experimental and technological breakthroughs in exploiting the electromagnetic field and in particular, its quantum properties and its interactions with matter, as well as to advances in solid state physics (such as new quantum Hall liquids, topological insulators and graphene). The present volume also focuses on various areas, including new interference experiments with very large molecules passing through double-slits, which test the validity of the Kochen-Specker theorem; new tests of the violation of Bell’s inequalities and the consequences of entanglement; new non-demolition measurements and tests of “wave-function collapse” to name but a few. These experimental developments have raised many challenging questions for theorists, leading to a new surge of interest in the foundations of QM, which have puzzled physicists ever since this theory was pioneered almost ninety years ago. The outcome of a seminar program of the same name on foundational issues in quantum physics (QM), organized by the editors of this book and addressing newcomers to the field and more seasoned specialists alike, this volume provides a pedagogically inspired snapshot view of many of the unresolved issues in the field of foundational QM.

Book Quantum Field Theory and String Theory

Download or read book Quantum Field Theory and String Theory written by L. Baulieu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cargese Workshop "Quantum Field Theory and String Theory" was held from May 10 to May 21, 1993. The broad spectrum of the work presented at the Workshop was the reflec tion of a time of intensive search for new ways of solving some of the most fun damental problems in string theory, quantum gravity and non-perturbative field theory. A number of talks indicated the emergence of new promising domains of investigation. It is this very diversity of topics which, in our opinion, represents one of the most attractive features of the present volume which we hope will provide a good orientation in the abundant flow of ideas and publications in modern quantum field theory. Many contributions to the present proceedings are concerned with two di mensional quantum field theory. The continuous advances in the domain of two dimensional integrable theories on the lattice as well as in the continuum, including conformal field theories, Liouville field theory and matrix models of two dimensional quantum gravity are very well represented. Other papers address physically realistic (and therefore very complicated) problems like de veloped turbulence, the Hofstadter problem, higher dimensional gravity and phenomenological strings. A new elegant class of topological field theories is presented. New ideas in the string representation of multicolor quantum chromo dynamics were widely discussed at the Workshop, more particularly the example of the exactly solvable two dimensional case.

Download or read book Deep Beauty written by Hans Halvorson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No scientific theory has caused more puzzlement and confusion than quantum theory. Physics is supposed to help us to understand the world, but quantum theory makes it seem a very strange place. This book is about how mathematical innovation can help us gain deeper insight into the structure of the physical world. Chapters by top researchers in the mathematical foundations of physics explore new ideas, especially novel mathematical concepts at the cutting edge of future physics. These creative developments in mathematics may catalyze the advances that enable us to understand our current physical theories, especially quantum theory. The authors bring diverse perspectives, unified only by the attempt to introduce fresh concepts that will open up new vistas in our understanding of future physics.

Book Introduction to String Field Theory

Download or read book Introduction to String Field Theory written by Warren Siegel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1988 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the most up-to-date findings on string field theory. It is presented in a new approach as a result of insights gained from the theory. This includes the use of a universal method for treating free field theories, which allows the derivation of a single, simple, free, local, Poincare-invariant, gauge-invariant action that can be applied directly to any fields.

Book New Trends in Mathematical Physics

Download or read book New Trends in Mathematical Physics written by Vladas Sidoravicius and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-01 with total page 916 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The XV-th International Congress on Mathematical Physics took place in Rio de Janeiro, on August 5 11, 2006. I believe it was a very successful and enjoyable meeting. It is very fortunate for our community that Latin America, and especially Brazil, in decades has become the place where all ?elds of intellectual activity which are traditionally regarded as part of Mathematical Physics are developing with steady pace and remarkable quality. Another important aspect of this devel- mentis thatbesidesareaswhichalreadyhaveworldwiderecognitionandlongsta- ing tradition in Brazil such as Dynamical Systems, Statistical Mechanics, Probab- ity Theory, etc., there is intensive growth in other directions such as String Theory and Algebraic Geometry. Brazil s major universities and research institutes such as IMPA and CBPF are successfully bringing up a new generation of researchers in our ?eld. Thus it was especially pleasant to see that among more than 500 participants of the Congress, the majority was constituted by young researchers and graduate students. Given the enormous range of subjects covered during the Congress, and the - versity of scienti?c contributions, it would be pointless to summarize the contents here the quality is re?ected in these pages. Traditionally, besides its very intense scienti?c program, the Congress was the occasion for the award of the Henri Poincare Prizes of the IAMP, sponsored by the Daniel Iagolnitzer Foundation. The Laureates for the year 2006 were Ludwig Faddeev, David Ruelle and Edward Witten."

Book Physical and Mathematical Aspects of Symmetries

Download or read book Physical and Mathematical Aspects of Symmetries written by Sergio Duarte and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings records the 31st International Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics (“Group 31”). Plenary-invited articles propose new approaches to the moduli spaces in gauge theories (V. Pestun, 2016 Weyl Prize Awardee), the phenomenology of neutrinos in non-commutative space-time, the use of Hardy spaces in quantum physics, contradictions in the use of statistical methods on complex systems, and alternative models of supersymmetry. This volume’s survey articles broaden the colloquia’s scope out into Majorana neutrino behavior, the dynamics of radiating charges, statistical pattern recognition of amino acids, and a variety of applications of gauge theory, among others. This year’s proceedings further honors Bertram Kostant (2016 Wigner Medalist), as well as S.T. Ali and L. Boyle, for their life-long contributions to the math and physics communities. The aim of the ICGTMP is to provide a forum for physicists, mathematicians, and scientists of related disciplines who develop or apply methods in group theory to share their research. The 31st ICGTMP was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 19th to June 25th, 2016. This was the first time that a colloquium of the prestigious and traditional ICGTMP series (which started in 1972 in Marseille, France) took place in South America. (The history of the colloquia can be found at http://icgtmp.blogs.uva.es/)

Book Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Field Theory and Perturbative String Theory

Download or read book Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Field Theory and Perturbative String Theory written by Hisham Sati and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011-12-07 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptual progress in fundamental theoretical physics is linked with the search for the suitable mathematical structures that model the physical systems. Quantum field theory (QFT) has proven to be a rich source of ideas for mathematics for a long time. However, fundamental questions such as ``What is a QFT?'' did not have satisfactory mathematical answers, especially on spaces with arbitrary topology, fundamental for the formulation of perturbative string theory. This book contains a collection of papers highlighting the mathematical foundations of QFT and its relevance to perturbative string theory as well as the deep techniques that have been emerging in the last few years. The papers are organized under three main chapters: Foundations for Quantum Field Theory, Quantization of Field Theories, and Two-Dimensional Quantum Field Theories. An introduction, written by the editors, provides an overview of the main underlying themes that bind together the papers in the volume.

Book Quantum Field Theory Perspective and Prospective

Download or read book Quantum Field Theory Perspective and Prospective written by Cécile Dewitt-Morette and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been said that `String theorists talk to string theorists and everyone else wonders what they are saying'. This book will be a great help to those researchers who are challenged by modern quantum field theory. Quantum field theory experienced a renaissance in the late 1960s. Here, participants in the Les Houches sessions of 1970/75, now key players in quantum field theory and its many impacts, assess developments in their field of interest and provide guidance to young researchers challenged by these developments, but overwhelmed by their complexities. The book is not a textbook on string theory, rather it is a complement to Polchinski's book on string theory. It is a survey of current problems which have their origin in quantum field theory.
