Book Evaluation of the Strength Aptitude Test and Other Fitness Tests to Qualify Air Force Recruits for Physically Demanding Specialties

Download or read book Evaluation of the Strength Aptitude Test and Other Fitness Tests to Qualify Air Force Recruits for Physically Demanding Specialties written by Sean Robson and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Air Force uses the Strength Aptitude Test (SAT) to determine whether recruits meet the fitness levels needed to perform the duties of various Air Force specialties with physical strength requirements. However, the SAT was developed in the early 1980s and has not been revalidated since then. In the interim, the duties associated with many Air Force Specialty Code classifications may have changed, and new ones have been added. These changes require a reevaluation of the SAT's utility and effectiveness for qualifying recruits into these specialties. This report evaluates the status and validity of the SAT in a series of studies and summarizes the studies RAND has completed independently and one study conducted in conjunction with HumRRO, which provided the additional data necessary to develop some courses of action for the Air Force to follow to ensure airmen can meet job-related physical requirements.

Book excerpt: If you have never failed your PT Test, then this little book is not for you. Sorry, save your money and go buy a Monster instead. If have recently failed, concerned about an upcoming assessment, want to get leadership off your back, tired of bad advice that doesn't work from people who have never failed, never want your PT Test to interfere with your career ever again, just plain frustrated, or have troops that have failed, keep reading!I have gone from failing and being in "the program" to ending my career with a 97.5. My goal is to produce the same results for all the Airmen out there, who are struggling with the PT Test, themselves. This is not going to turn you into a machine overnight. This not my version of P90X. This is not Weight Watchers. I am not going to sell you a magic drink powder. I am not going to ask you to join a network marketing or multi level marketing scheme. What I am going to give you is information and guidance. The Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment is broken down to three parts. Strength, Aerobic Endurance, and Waist Measurement. In this book I will give you unconventional methods to address each of these.I will help you Pass Your PT Test by covering the following:*Strength (push-ups and sit-ups)- I can teach you how to improve these numbers drastically in 30 days by teaching you how to "grease the groove."*Aerobic Endurance (1.5 mile run)- This one isn't so easy. We will address ankle and foot mobility, running efficiency and training to specifically target you heart and lungs.*Body Composition (waist measurement)- This can be easy but in most cases we really need to spend some time on this. We will cover food addiction, inflammatory foods and stress management.Although I am retired, I still want to serve. The best way I see that's possible is to apply my years of research and experience to helping Airman never let the PT Test get in the way of a 5 EPR, promotion, or assignment ever again.

Book Assessing Fitness for Military Enlistment

Download or read book Assessing Fitness for Military Enlistment written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-02-27 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) faces short-term and long-term challenges in selecting and recruiting an enlisted force to meet personnel requirements associated with diverse and changing missions. The DoD has established standards for aptitudes/abilities, medical conditions, and physical fitness to be used in selecting recruits who are most likely to succeed in their jobs and complete the first term of service (generally 36 months). In 1999, the Committee on the Youth Population and Military Recruitment was established by the National Research Council (NRC) in response to a request from the DoD. One focus of the committee's work was to examine trends in the youth population relative to the needs of the military and the standards used to screen applicants to meet these needs. When the committee began its work in 1999, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force had recently experienced recruiting shortfalls. By the early 2000s, all the Services were meeting their goals; however, in the first half of calendar year 2005, both the Army and the Marine Corps experienced recruiting difficulties and, in some months, shortfalls. When recruiting goals are not being met, scientific guidance is needed to inform policy decisions regarding the advisability of lowering standards and the impact of any change on training time and cost, job performance, attrition, and the health of the force. Assessing Fitness for Military Enlistment examines the current physical, medical, and mental health standards for military enlistment in light of (1) trends in the physical condition of the youth population; (2) medical advances for treating certain conditions, as well as knowledge of the typical course of chronic conditions as young people reach adulthood; (3) the role of basic training in physical conditioning; (4) the physical demands and working conditions of various jobs in today's military services; and (5) the measures that are used by the Services to characterize an individual's physical condition. The focus is on the enlistment of 18- to 24-year-olds and their first term of service.

Book Expanded Air Force Physical Fitness Battery Muscle Strength Muscle Endurance and Flexibility Considered Volume I Final Report

Download or read book Expanded Air Force Physical Fitness Battery Muscle Strength Muscle Endurance and Flexibility Considered Volume I Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current Air Force fitness test is a submaximal cycle ergometry test which is used to estimate cardiovascular fitness. Interest in adding to this fitness requirement has arisen from several quarters. CSERIAC, the Crew System Ergonomics Information Analysis Center, produced this Review & Analysis that analyzes advantages and disadvantages to the Air Force of adding muscle strength, muscle endurance, and flexibility requirements to the Air Force fitness battery. It was concluded that of the benefits of strength training, improved deployment preparedness, safe and efficient everyday work performance, and safer aerobic and team activity are most important to the Air Force. Secondly, although the evidence is not absolutely conclusive, the preservation of bone mass through strength training is also important to the Air Force, especially as more women enter, and retire from, the Air Force. The benefits of flexibility training are less clear. While flexibility training seems to be a universal prescription in fitness and health texts, the scientific data do not universally support the purported benefits of flexibility training, especially in the area of sports injury protection. However, on the basis of recommendations of other fitness programs and the opinions of subject-matter experts, and because better flexibility may reduce lower back pain and prevent injury from falls, it is suggested that the Air Force add flexibility training to its program.

Book A Review of the Air Force Fitness Assessment

Download or read book A Review of the Air Force Fitness Assessment written by Sean Robson and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Military readiness requires service members to be mentally and physically fit to perform duties in various environments. To determine whether service members have the requisite physical fitness to serve, the U.S. Air Force (AF) and its sister services have established various medical and physical standards. These standards are first applied as part of an initial screening for military entrance. After joining, service members must continue to maintain fitness in accordance with their respective service policies. This report presents an overview of research relevant to fitness assessment (FA) components to ensure airmen readiness, support the National Defense Strategy, and promote a culture of health and well-being across the AF. The authors conducted an evaluation of the AF-FA using scientific evidence drawn from published literature on relevant FA components, with an emphasis on the potential for current assessments to meet overall health and deployment requirements. Evidence from the literature was augmented with workshops and discussions with a variety of subject-matter experts, including those familiar with deployment readiness training. The authors also identify potential gaps and offer recommendations for improvement. The work in this report should be of interest to military policymakers and researchers involved in setting and evaluating military physical fitness standards.

Book The Weighted Airman Promotion System Standardizing Test Scores

Download or read book The Weighted Airman Promotion System Standardizing Test Scores written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Air Force has three major independent systems that affect the health of its enlisted force: the manpower system, the strength management system, and the enlisted promotion system. Because the current organizational structure lacks broad coordinating and control mechanisms, this independence spawns policies and procedures that occasionally work at cross-purposes. We discuss these systems at length in Air Force Enlisted Force Management: System Interactions and Synchronization Strategies (Schiefer et al., 2007). That monograph proposes multiple follow-on efforts, and this study fulfills one of those recommendations. Specifically, we examine the practice of not standardizing the test scores that are part of the enlisted promotion system. This practice produces results that are inconsistent with two overarching policies. First, Air Force Policy Directive 36-25 requires that the enlisted promotion system identify those people with the highest potential to fill positions of increased grade and responsibility. We show that not standardizing test scores means that the Air Force emphasizes longevity and testing ability differently across and within specialties to identify individuals with the highest potential. Our second concern deals with differences in promotion opportunity. While the testing dimension of the enlisted promotion system allows members to influence their own destinies, not standardizing scores means that members of specialties in which testing carries more weight have more control than members of other specialties do. This produces random promotion opportunity differences across Air Force specialty codes (AFSCs), thus violating an equity principle that can be traced to a 1970s-era strategic plan for enlisted force management known as the Total Objective Plan for Career Airman Personnel (TOPCAP).

This fully updated edition of Barron's Military Flight Aptitude Tests provides would-be aviators in all five U.S. armed services with the competitive edge they will need to score their best and maximize their chances of being selected! This book is an effective, full-spectrum resource for officer candidates, ROTC cadets from all services, and current military members. Six full-length practice tests (two per service) with answers and explanations for every question get readers ready for the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT), the Selection Instrument for Flight Training (SIFT), and the Navy/Marine Corps/Coast Guard Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB-E). Test overviews and detailed review sections give potential pilots the boost they need to rise to the top of the selection list, and most of the review subjects apply to all three tests. Successful aviation applicants strongly recommend working through every valuable review section, and the other services' tests are great for extra practice to reinforce your learning. Written by a veteran, joint qualified military officer and instructor, this book's review sections cover language skills, reading comprehension, math knowledge, arithmetic reasoning, mechanical comprehension, aviation and nautical technical information, science, and specific mental skills such as block counting, finding hidden figures, and spatial apperception. The author also coaches readers on effective study techniques, provides expanded information resources, and gives pilot candidates a thorough preview of how each test is structured and conducted.
