Download or read book Statics and Mechanics of Structures written by Steen Krenk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-02 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The statics and mechanics of structures form a core aspect of civil engineering. This book provides an introduction to the subject, starting from classic hand-calculation types of analysis and gradually advancing to a systematic form suitable for computer implementation. It starts with statically determinate structures in the form of trusses, beams and frames. Instability is discussed in the form of the column problem - both the ideal column and the imperfect column used in actual column design. The theory of statically indeterminate structures is then introduced, and the force and deformation methods are explained and illustrated. An important aspect of the book’s approach is the systematic development of the theory in a form suitable for computer implementation using finite elements. This development is supported by two small computer programs, MiniTruss and MiniFrame, which permit static analysis of trusses and frames, as well as linearized stability analysis. The book’s final section presents related strength of materials subjects in greater detail; these include stress and strain, failure criteria, and normal and shear stresses in general beam flexure and in beam torsion. The book is well-suited as a textbook for a two-semester introductory course on structures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to benefit different segments of target audience—right from under-graduate and post-graduate students and teachers of Mechanical Engineering, in Universities and Engineering Colleges across India, practicing professionals, Design Engineers and Engineering Consultants working in Industries and Consulting organizations. All the above aspects have together made this book unique in several aspects. From a Mechanical Engineering Student’s angle, this book covers the syllabus prescribed by Indian Universities extensively, with theory, practical applications of the theory, illustrated with several worked out examples and problems, along with ‘chapter wise review questions’ taken from standard university question papers. The engineering application of the theories along with the case study, solved by the author himself, present the inter-disciplinary nature of engineering problems and solutions, in the subject of ‘Strength of Materials’. The book strives to relate well and establish a good connect among various fields of study like Materials, Design, Engineering Tables, Design Codes, Design Cycle, Role of Analysis, Theory of Elasticity, Finite Element Methods, Failure theory, Experimental techniques and Product Engineering. The author sincerely hopes that the book will be found immensely beneficial and will be well received by its intended target audience—the students and teachers of Mechanical Engineering, as well as practicing Design Engineers and Consultants.

Download or read book FRP Composite Structures written by Hota V.S. GangaRao and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-10-27 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in infrastructure systems has grown considerably in recent years because of the durability of composite materials. New constituent materials, manufacturing techniques, design approaches, and construction methods are being developed and introduced in practice by the FRP composites community to cost-effectively build FRP structural systems. FRP Composite Structures: Theory, Fundamentals, and Design brings clarity to the analysis and design of these FRP composite structural systems to advance the field implementation of structural systems with enhanced durability and reduced maintenance costs. It develops simplified mathematical models representing the behavior of beams and plates under static loads, after introducing generalized Hooke’s Law for materials with anisotropic, orthotropic, transversely isotropic, and isotropic properties. Subsequently, the simplified models coupled with design methods including FRP composite material degradation factors are introduced by solving a wide range of practical design problems. This book: Explores practical and novel infrastructure designs and implementations Uses contemporary codes recently approved Includes FRP case studies from around the world Ensures readers fully understand the basic mechanics of composite materials before involving large-scale number crunching Details several advanced topics including aging of FRPs, typical failures of structures including joints, and design simplifications without loss of accuracy and emphasis on failure modes Features end of chapter problems and solved examples throughout. This textbook is aimed at advanced undergraduate and graduate students and industry professionals focused on the analysis and design of FRP composite structural members. It features PowerPoint lecture slides and a solutions manual for adopting professors.
