Book Stratigraphy of the Middle Cambrian Platformal Succession Southern Rocky Mountains

Download or read book Stratigraphy of the Middle Cambrian Platformal Succession Southern Rocky Mountains written by J. D. Aitken and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1.3-kilometre-thick, virtually complete Middle Cambrian platformal succession of the southern Rocky Mountains consists of four grand cycles, each beginning with a formation of the inner detrital facies belt and ending with a formation of the middle carbonate facies belt. The first three cycles share a common depositional style and are the main subject of this bulletin. The bulletin provides a comprehensive current analyses of these Middle Cambrian strata and includes abundant basic data including: the classification and understanding of algal/microbial limestones; the recognition and interpretation of large-scale depositional cycles; and the mechanism and history of subsidence of the western continental margin. The bulletin clarifies the existing lithostratigraphic nomenclature. Several new reference sections are designated and nine new members are defined. Data on a network of sections of the platformal facies of the Middle Cambrian are interpreted in terms of modern sedimentological concepts and depositional models.

Book Laurentia Gondwana Connections Before Pangea

Download or read book Laurentia Gondwana Connections Before Pangea written by Víctor A. Ramos and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the tectonics interaction among the exotic terrians between Laurentia and Southwest Gondwana. The authors reveal data that sheds light on pre-Pangea connections between Laurentia and Southwest Gondwana. These data concern the presence of Ollenelus and associated fauna in the Precordillera of central Western South America; the common early Paleozoic paleomagnetic data, the presence of a large early Paleozoic carbo nate platform distinct from the Southwest Gondwanan clastic platforms associated with glacial deposits, and the exotic nature of the Grenville basement of this platform.

Book Cenozoic Carbonate Systems of Australasia

Download or read book Cenozoic Carbonate Systems of Australasia written by American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Meeting and published by SEPM Soc for Sed Geology. This book was released on 2010 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cenozoic carbonate systems of Australasia are the product of a diverse assortment of depositional and post-depositional processes, reflecting the interplay of eustasy, tectonics (both plate and local scale), climate, and evolutionary trends that influenced their initiation and development. These systems, which comprise both land-attached and isolated platforms, were initiated in a wide variety of tectonic settings (including rift, passive margin, and arc-related) and under warm and cool-water conditions where, locally, siliciclastic input affected their development. The lithofacies, biofacies, growth morphology, diagenesis, and hydrocarbon reservoir potential of these systems are products of these varying influences. The studies reported in this volume range from syntheses of tectonic and depositional factors influencing carbonate deposition and controls on reservoir formation and petroleum system development, to local studies from the South China Sea, Indonesia, Kalimantan, Malaysia, the Marion Plateau, the Philippines, Western Australia, and New Caledonia that incorporate outcrop and subsurface data, including 3-D seismic imaging of carbonate platforms and facies, to understand the interplay of factors affecting the development of these systems under widely differing circumstances. This volume will be of importance to geoscientists interested in the variability of Cenozoic carbonate systems and the factors that controlled their formation, and to those wanting to understand the range of potential hydrocarbon reservoirs discovered in these carbonates and the events that led to favorable reservoir and trap development.

Book Geology and Landscape Evolution

Download or read book Geology and Landscape Evolution written by Joseph A. DiPietro and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-04-16 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geology and Landscape Evolution: General Principles Applied to the United States, Second Edition, is an accessible text that balances interdisciplinary theory and applications within the physical geography, geology, geomorphology and climatology of the United States. The vast diversity of terrain and landscape across the United States makes this an ideal tool for geoscientists worldwide who research the country's geological and landscape evolution. The book provides an explanation of how landscape forms, how it evolves and why it looks the way it does. This new edition is fully updated with greater detail throughout and additional figures, maps, drawings and photographs. Rather than limiting the coverage specifically to tectonics or to the origin and evolution of rocks with little regard for the actual landscape beyond general desert, river and glacial features, this book concentrates specifically on the origin of the landscape itself, with specific and exhaustive reference to examples from across the United States. The book begins with a discussion of how rock type and rock structure combine with tectonic activity, climate, isostasy and sea level change to produce landscape and then explores predicting how landscape will evolve. The book goes on to apply those concepts to specific examples throughout the United States, making it a valuable resource for understanding theoretical geological concepts through a practical lens. - Presents the complexities of physical geography, geology, geomorphology and climatology of the United States through an interdisciplinary, highly accessible approach - Offers hundreds of full-color figures, maps and photographs that capture the systematic interaction of land, rock, rivers, glaciers, global wind patterns and climate, including Google Earth images - Provides a thorough assessment of the logic, rationale, and tools required to understand how to interpret landscape and the geological history of the Earth - Features exercises that conclude each chapter, aiding in the retention of key concepts - Updated with greater detail throughout and additional figures, maps, drawings and photographs - Includes additional subheadings so that material is easier to find and digest - Includes an all-new chapter on glaciation and expanded exercises using Google Earth images to enhance understanding
