Book Sedimentology and Stratigraphy of the Upper Devonian Imperial Formaiton Mackenzie Valley Northwest Territories Canada

Download or read book Sedimentology and Stratigraphy of the Upper Devonian Imperial Formaiton Mackenzie Valley Northwest Territories Canada written by Rachael Acker and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A well exposed outcrop of the Upper Devonian Imperial Formation at the Imperial River type section, Northwest Territories, is described and analyzed in detail to evaluate depositional and sequence stratigraphic models. The formation is divided into lower, middle and upper intervals, with the present study focusing on the sandstonerich middle interval deposits. Eight facies are described and three facies associations interpreted within the middle interval, which comprise forty upwards coarsening packages (3 20 m thick) at Imperial River. Each upwardscoarsening package is considered a parasequence, which records the shift from distal to proximal shelf and shoreface deposits. Analysis of various regional successions of parasequence stacking patterns, through integration of seismic data, well logs and outcrop data, is used to refine sediment distribution predictions and develop a revised stratigraphic framework for the Imperial Formation. The development of regional and local depositional models, should provide an initial framework for hydrocarbon exploration in the Imperial Formation of the Mackenzie Corridor.

Book The Stratigraphy and Fauna of the Hackberry Stage of the Upper Devonian

Download or read book The Stratigraphy and Fauna of the Hackberry Stage of the Upper Devonian written by Carroll Lane Fenton and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 1925 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stratigraphy and Fauna of the Hackberry Stage of the Upper Devonian looks at the rocks of the Hackberry stage, which are exposed throughout a narrow belt in north central Iowa and constitute the uppermost member of the Devonian section. Although limited in area and in thickness, the Hackberry contains an abundant fauna, preserved with unusual excellence. A number of the species were described and illustrated in the publications of Hall, Hall and Whitfield, Hall and Clarke, Calvin, Webster, and others, but, at the time of this publication, most of them remained undescribed or erroneously identified with eastern species. Here Carroll Lane Fenton and Mildred Adams Fenton furnish a detailed account of the Hackberry strata, with sections accompanied by an adequate--though not complete--discussion of the fauna. Most of the typical species of fauna are described, as well as many rarer ones. In a few cases, detailed treatments of varieties, evolution, and association have been possible. Lack of time has prevented description of the Protozoa and the Stromatoporoidea, of which there are numerous species, most of which are undescribed.

Book Devonian Events and Correlations

Download or read book Devonian Events and Correlations written by R. T. Becker and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2007 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Devonian was a peculiar period, characterized by simplified plate tectonic configurations, climatic overheating and widely flooded continents. The bloom of fishes and ammonoids, extensive reef complexes, and the conquest of land indicate major biosphere innovations, punctuated by many global events, including two of the biggest mass extinctions. The Devonian was the first system for which subdivisions were formally defined. This was achieved by significant advances in pelagic biostratigraphy. The chronostratigraphic framework and interdisciplinary techniques allow us to correlate intervals or sudden events across facies boundaries, in order to reconstruct the sedimentary and evolutionary history of the system with highest precision. This volume honors the lifetime stratigraphic achievements of Michael Robert House (1930-2002). Based on case studies from Europe, North Africa and North America, it shows how the combination of biostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy and event stratigraphy can contribute to a much deeper understanding of both regional and global environmental change.

Book Uppermost Devonian and Lower Carboniferous Stratigraphy Sedimentation and Diagenesis Southwestern District of Mackenzie and Southeastern Yukon Territory NTS 95 B C F and G

Download or read book Uppermost Devonian and Lower Carboniferous Stratigraphy Sedimentation and Diagenesis Southwestern District of Mackenzie and Southeastern Yukon Territory NTS 95 B C F and G written by B. C. Richards and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Description of the uppermost Devonian and Lower Carboniferous strata that lie between the Mattson and Exshaw formations, including regional lithostratigraphy; characteristics, distribution, and depositional environments of the lithofacies; and the latest Devonian and early Carboniferous depositional history of the project areas. Some aspects of the diagenesis of the deposits are also discussed. The study is based chiefly on data from the outcrop belt of the Tournaisian and Visean in the southern Mackenzie fold belt, but incorporates some data from well sections in the project area and the region to the east. Parts of the field seasons of 1975, 1976 and 1978 were spent in the study area.
