Thirty-three rotary cores were examined and sampled in detail as a means of providing data on 1) the facies and facies relationships, and 2) the distribution, thickness, and continuity of coal seams in the Gething Formation within a very limited area of the western Foothills. Sedimentary structures and other sedimentological data were also recorded to aid in describing and interpreting the depositional environments and history of deposition in the area.

Book excerpt: The Pebble Creek Formation in the area of Mount Meager, British Columbia, contains a diverse assemblage of deposits reflecting the dynamic interplay between an active volcano and its surrounding environment. This paper presents a revised stratigraphy and new map of the Formation based on field work completed in 2000 & 2001. The stratigraphy includes both primary volcanic deposits and non-volcanic clastic units formed by rock avalanches, reworked pumice fallout, and correlative flood deposits and deltaic & lakeshore sediments. The deposits described illustrate the potential impact of high-relief landscapes and alpine drainage systems on the styles of volcanism and the effects of volcanism on mass wasting & fluvial processes.
