Book Proceedings of the XVth International Congress on Carboniferous and Permian Stratigraphy

Download or read book Proceedings of the XVth International Congress on Carboniferous and Permian Stratigraphy written by Theo Edward Wong and published by Edita-The Publishing House of the Royal. This book was released on 2007 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compendium of papers first presented at the fifteenth annual International Congress on Carboniferous and Permian Stratigraphy, this book offers an overview of the latest research on rock formation that took place over 250 million years ago. This ancient sediment, which provides much of the mineral resources we use today, is a key indicator of massive environmental shifts that occurred around the creation of the super-continent Pangea. Organized thematically, the book covers a wide variety of topics, including the structural development of Carboniferous basins, the paleontology of those periods, and Carboniferous and Permian timescales and global correlations. As the contributors demonstrate, a better understanding of the evolution of the earth during the Carboniferous and Permian periods will not only help us find more mineral resources, but will also provide insight into important modern environmental questions.

Book Resolving the Late Paleozoic Ice Age in Time and Space

Download or read book Resolving the Late Paleozoic Ice Age in Time and Space written by Christopher R. Fielding and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume summarizes new developments in understanding the longest-lived icehouse period in Phanerozoic Earth history, the late Paleozoic ice age. Resolving the Late Paleozoic Ice Age in Time and Space provides summaries of existing and new data from the various Gondwanan continental relics, and also reviews stratigraphic successions from the paleotropical and temperate regions of Laurussia that preserve an indirect record of glaciation. It addresses the extent to which records of glaciation indicate protracted, long-term climatic austerity, as opposed to fluctuating, more dynamic climate, and provides new constraints on the timing of glaciation. Additionally, it tackles questions of synchroneity of glaciation across the various Gondwanan continental relics, and timing relationships between near-field and far-field records at greater levels of resolution than has been possible previously. Results point toward a dynamic icehouse regime that is comparable to the Cenozoic icehouse, and away from traditional interpretations of the late Paleozoic ice age as a single, protracted event that involved stable, long-lived ice centers."--Publisher's website.

Book Permo triassic Sequence of the Arabian Plate

Download or read book Permo triassic Sequence of the Arabian Plate written by Michael C. Pöppelreiter and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Permo-Triassic Sequence of the Arabian Plate', edited by Michael Pöppelreiter, is based on the findings of an EAGE organized workshop held in Kuwait on the stratigraphy, reservoir and exploration techniques of the Arabian Khuff formation. The volume portrays the Khuff formation, which stretches across six countries, from an integrated petroleum- systems perspective: source, reservoir and seal across the platform from margin to open marine environments. The special publication was written by 64 authors and co-authors, from 17 nations across three continents, affiliated to industry and academia. The Khuff is portrayed hierarchically from basin, play, environment, body and grain scale in 15 chapters on 400 pages with emphasis on 229 high-quality, full-colour figures. The publication emphasizes the importance of subtle tectonics on all elements of the petroleum system. For those who want to find out more about the formation, the book has a contacts directory of Khuff specialists on different subject matters. Book Coral Bleaching

    Book Details:
  • Author : Madeleine J. H. van Oppen
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2018-07-05
  • ISBN : 3319753932
  • Pages : 357 pages

Download or read book Coral Bleaching written by Madeleine J. H. van Oppen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most serious consequences of global climate change for coral reefs is the increased frequency and severity of mass coral bleaching events and, since the first edition of this volume was published in 2009, there have been additional mass coral bleaching events. This book provides comprehensive information on the causes and consequences of coral bleaching for coral reef ecosystems, from the genes and microbes involved in the bleaching response, to individual coral colonies and whole reef systems. It presents detailed analyses of how coral bleaching can be detected and quantified and reviews future scenarios based on modeling efforts and the potential mechanisms of acclimatisation and adaptation. It also briefly discusses emerging research areas that focus on the development of innovative interventions aiming to increase coral climate resilience and restore reefs.
