Download or read book Nonmarket Strategy in Japan written by Eric Romann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on foreign firms’ nonmarket strategies and lobbying in Japan, in which important readjustments in traditional power configuration have taken place, giving more leeway to various stakeholders. The author analyzes in-depth how firms deploy their influence in a country that used to be dubbed "the castle" due to its difficulty of access, a theme on which minimal information currently exists. As professionals acknowledge, and contrary to what is usually assumed, similarities with the United States or the European Union outweigh local differences that though must still be addressed are no longer insuperable. With globalization and the rise of economic interdependence, it is now easier for foreign players with valuable assets to be part of the game. A significant feature of the country is the weight of collective action and the reluctance towards individual or direct lobbying as reflected in the perceptions and firms’ organization. The consequence for foreign firms is that they are often compelled to circumvent with soft strategies. This book will take the reader over 20 cases that display a striking multiformity and highlight conditions for success for foreign businesses in Japan and will be of interest to scholars as well as practitioners.

Book Strategic Vs Evolutionary Management

Download or read book Strategic Vs Evolutionary Management written by Tadao Kagono and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1985 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the strengths and weaknesses of typical U.S. and Japanese companies are identified and two different models of organizational adaptations (rational-strategic and organic-evolutionary) are proposed on the basis of a quantitative comparison of the largest 1,000 firms both in the U.S. and Japan. Strategies, organizational structures and management processes of large corporations in the U.S. and Japan are compared. An intensive longitudinal analysis of 36 large firms within the sample found both (a) consistent differences in strategy, organizational structure, and management process among the sample companies in general and (b) remarkable commonalities among high-performing companies in the two countries. An evolutionary model, which is drawn out from typical Japanese companies, is applicable to high performers in both countries with certain modifications.

Book Ben and Jerry s Japan Strategic Analysis and the expansion to the Japanese market

Download or read book Ben and Jerry s Japan Strategic Analysis and the expansion to the Japanese market written by Marc Gittler and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2002-10-14 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2002 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A, International School of Management Dortmund (San Diego, USA), course: Strategic Management, 10 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Ben and Jerry’s is one of the best known super-premium ice-cream manufactures in the United States. In 1998 Ben and Jerry’s expanded its business to Japan, the second largest ice cream market in the world. It was a significant step in the company’s history and strategic orientation. In the beginning they had to face several problems which had to be solved before entering the market. This planning phase took from 1994 to 1996 followed by a test market phase in 1997. One of the mayor problems was to find a partner who could provide an adequate distribution network. Ben and Jerry’s finally decided to enter the market with the help of Seven-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd., which is a franchise convenience store chain of about 8,000 stores in Japan. This made it possible for Ben and Jerry’s to offer their ice-cream to a lot of people without building up their own distribution network. The company could also make use of the experience of Seven-Eleven who obviously can better assess the Japanese’s need and habits. In 2000 Ben and Jerry’s was acquired by Unilever, a multinational food and personal products company. This acquisition gives Ben and Jerry’s the possibility of using the existing distribution channels and reduce the dependency on other companies. Also with Unilever as its parent company the company has a new financial strength which allows them to expand marketing strategies and research and development. Based on the following analysis Ben and Jerry’s is very good positioned in the markets they are competing in. The company uses its strengths and the opportunities in order to fight against potential threats and weaknesses they face due to the lack of huge market share.
