Book Black Soldier White Army

Download or read book Black Soldier White Army written by William T. Bowers and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997-05 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the 24th Infantry regiment in Korea is a difficult one, both for the veterans of the unit & for the Army. This book tells both what happened to the 24th Infantry, & why it happened. The Army must be aware of the corrosive effects of segregation & the racial prejudices that accompanied it. The consequences of the system crippled the trust & mutual confidence so necessary among the soldiers & leaders of combat units & weakened the bonds that held the 24th together, producing profound effects on the battlefield. Tables, maps & illustrations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Civil War Soldiers: Discovering the Men of the 25th United States Colored Troops” began as an exhibit of portraits and biographies of actual African-American men who served in the 25th USCT, Company G, during the Civil War. The show rated in the “Top 25” of over 1500 entries at ArtPrize 2013, an international art competition held annually in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Now the collection of 17 full color drawings, photos, updated biographies, an introduction with background details, color maps, and selected military records, appears in book form in this volume. The drawings are based on photos from a tiny, rare album, owned by the Captain of the men, William A. Prickitt, and physical descriptions from each man's Civil War military records. The men in the photos were identified with a hand-written name on the mat around their photo. The reason only 17 men of a much larger company were photographed is still a mystery. In addition to creating the portraits, the author did careful genealogical research on each man and wrote a short biography of him, including fascinating details about his life before and after the war. 1863 was the first time in American history that African-American men were allowed to serve in the U. S. Army. “Civil War Soldiers: Discovering the Men of the 25th United States Colored Troops” highlights 17 men who answered the call to serve their country at that pivotal moment.

This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a real-life story of dedication, sacrifice, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil, centering on the Twenty-fifth Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers, which was a regiment of young men from Hartford and Tolland Counties who were driven by patriotic motives. In the fall of 1862, they were recruited into the United States service and fought for the Union, eventually sailing to Ship Island, off the coast of Mississippi. Their destination was unknown, but they were eventually sent to New Orleans and landed at Baton Rouge. They were then brigaded under General Albert E. Payne of Wisconsin and then under Colonel H. W. Birge, an officer of rare ability and bravery who led them in many battles and marches. They witnessed the grand bombardment by Farragut and the burning of the frigate Mississippi. After the war, Adjutant-General Morse described the Twenty-fifth as "one of the best of our nine months' regiments," and their bravery and endurance won them a high and lasting reputation.
