Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A radiotracer technique developed by the Bureau of Mines extends to the parts-per-billion range the sensitivity for determining contributors of deposits formed in stored and thermally stressed jet fuels. The method depends upon measuring radioactivity associated with thermally induced deposits from fuels containing one labeled compound. The technique was applied to 88 test blends, representing 12 fuels and nine carbon-14 labeled fuel constituents or fuel additives, or both. Data from results of these tests are included in this report. With this radiotracer technique, the contribution of fuel components and additives to thermally induced deposits in a variety of fuel environments was estimated before and after storage. (Author).

Book Storage Stability Assurance of US Navy Aircraft Strategic Fuel Reserves

Download or read book Storage Stability Assurance of US Navy Aircraft Strategic Fuel Reserves written by Seetar G. Pande and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A reliable method is needed for predicting the long term storage stabilities of the military aviation turbine fuel reserves as well as for evaluating the effectiveness of antioxidants approved for these fuels. This report addresses this need. It describes a reliable and practical accelerated test method for predicting the peroxidation potential of aviation turbine fuels. A test methodology for evaluating antioxidants for future qualification in military specification, MIL-T-5624, is also proposed. This paper is based on the collective results of extensive rigorous studies performed by the four participating laboratories: Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), San Antonio, Texas; Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Washington, D.C.; Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), Trenton, New Jersey; and the National Institute of Petroleum and Energy Research (NIPER), Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The proposed accelerated method for predicting the long term storage stability of JP-5 fuels entails conducting the stress test in a Low Pressure Reactor (LPR) at 1000 C stress temperature, and 50 psia (344.8 kPa) overpressure air for 24 hours with the option to extend to 48 hours if deemed necessary. The 1000 C stress temperature has been validated to be predictive of long term storage at ambient conditions.

Book The Effect of Manufacturing Processes on Aviation Turbine Fuel Thermal Stability Handling

Download or read book The Effect of Manufacturing Processes on Aviation Turbine Fuel Thermal Stability Handling written by R. Fletcher and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal stability problems encountered over the past few years during the distribution of jet fuel will be reviewed. Surprisingly almost all of the problems have occurred during transportation by ship with very few being encountered with rail and multi-product pipeline movements. The reason for the failures will be discussed in relation to the distribution system and to the manufacturing processes.

Book Storage Stability of Fuels

Download or read book Storage Stability of Fuels written by Krzysztof Biernat and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2015-02-04 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an analysis of the results of studies of motor fuels ageing, conducted in laboratory and model conditions, in terms of building a system operating on-line, allowing continuous assessment of the operational usability of gasoline and diesel fuels, including those containing the addition of ethanol and FAME, respectively. This research was carried out in the framework of the project: "A system for the continuous control of the degree and rate of the liquid fuels ageing process during storage, which received co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme "Innovative Economy". The book presents an evaluation of the impact of fuel production processes on its stability and an analysis of changes in normative parameters of fuels during their storage and use. The book presents also the results of tests on the corrosive effects of fuels during storage processes. This project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme "Innovative Economy".
